Hillary Clinton's lead a puddle in the Sanders Sahara #deadheat #feelthebern

Hillary Clinton’s advantage against Bernie Sanders among Democratic voters continues to evaporate, according to the latest CNN/ORC national poll released Wednesday morning. And in a general election matchup with Donald Trump, who has led GOP polling for the last month, Clinton leads by just six points.
Among 358 registered voters who identified as Democrats or leaning Democratic, 47 percent said they would vote for Clinton in a primary, while Sanders picked up 29 percent. Vice President Joe Biden, who has not made his intentions known about a run, grabbed 14 percent. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley received 2 percent, and former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb earned 1 percent.

Democrats can't afford to throw a temper tantrum at the election booth this election.

Sanders will get destroyed in the general election, and we'll be stuck with conservative supreme court judges for decades.

Perhaps the most important bit you left out for context

In the same poll last month, Clinton picked up 56 percent to Sanders’ 19 percent,

Important as far as polls go this early in the election.

Hillary has always been a well there is no else style candidate for a lot of people. She is the definition of a career Washington insider that everyone rails against. So it is not surprising that people might start to see Sanders and find something refreshing about him.

Frankly no Politician should be a lock for any office.

Considering 40% of Polled people - never heard of Bernie or had no opinion on him. Pretty damn good results - spread the Bern

I know NeoGAF loves Bernie Sanders, but does this man really have a chance at being President if he wins the primary? He seems to lean to the far left and we all know how much of a chance those who lean to the far right have.

I'd feel bad for Hillary if she didn't get the nomination.

I can't help but admire her dogged determination to be President at all costs. Puts my lazy arse to shame.

Has Hillary even started campaigning?
or is she just chilling in cedar rapids
or is Trump Hillary's secret campaigner

These polls mean very little.

Keep on keepin' on, Bernie.

You go get that presidency!

Uhhh why? People act like she is entitled to it somehow. What's to admire about her, as the other half of the Clinton Dynasty she is getting so much handed to her it isn't even funny. Bernie is the one deserving of admiration. He's working from the bottom.

I guess the country can better afford a grotesquely distorted status quo. I mean hell, it's working already! Above all, being a modern Democrat is giving up before making a good faith effort, and accepting uneasy and counterproductive compromises because, like, reality or something. I personally look forward to the further gradual decay of anything our dilapidated memory of leading nation used to represent. Better than voting with your conscience, amirite?

The Electoral Map leans pretty far in the democrats favor. Republicans would need to grab Florida, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio and Colorado to win. Lose any of those and its over

Got to keep people glued to their seats before the rest starts to unfold. I am impressed with Bernie in many ways, but it's not in the cards/numbers.

He'd likely be another Dukakis unless Trump actually does get the GOP nomination, even with the Democrats' supposed electoral map advantage. A lot of that advantage presumes advantages Obama enjoyed apply to every Democrat when they likely don't. But even the inter-party polls at a national level kind of mean nothing this far out from a vote. We don't have a national primary.

I think the debates in October are going to help Bernie explode a hell of a lot more than he already has. His sincerity is captivating.

I do wonder how the mainstream media will paint him, seeing as he's very recently and vocally called them the fuck out.

Sanders will not secure as much of the conservative or GOP vote that Hillary, who has always been more center than extreme left will get. Tech savvy youngsters and polling and Tumblr users can get behind Sanders all they want, but Sanders needs to secure a lot of the conservative and Republican vote that went to Obama last time, and he's frankly too far left to achieve that compared to Hillary and Joe Biden. Just like someone like Ted Cruz can never secure as much of the Democratic vote that someone like Jeb Bush or Kasich or Christie can possibly get. They have broader appeal, once you stop looking at party lines.

But that's modern politics for you. Very partisan, based on party lines where they've been drawn in the sand. You can have people be against every single thing their candidate stands for, but because they're part of 'their' party, they'll vote for them.

Still don't see Sanders as a contender for presidency.

Hillary and (possibly) Biden are both going to lead over Sanders.

Hillary Clinton is the war hawk American needs and deserves.

I've misplaced my software. Quick, someone photoshop her head on!

He's also old. And we know how well that went for McCain (who was a few years younger in 2008 than Bernie is now).
Yeah, but yelling at clouds and choosing the most ignorant and batshit crazy running mate possible isn't on Bernie's list of things to do. McCain's team in '08 ran a horrible campaign of mythical proportions. Bernie may or may not be electable in a general election, but I think age is one of the lesser concerns.

Hopefully the trend continues, and those Hillary/Trump supporters make the effort to learn more about him so as to fully support his bid. This is the biggest chance we've got to get someone who is not beholden to corporate interests into the highest position.

Also, for those crying that he's 'far too left',you mean he's not a corporate stooge pretending to be affiliated with a party, and thus won't be supported by big money right?

By and large, every single policy he supports has majority appeal with the American public across party lines. So saying 'he's too far left', is the same as saying 'common sense is dead'.

Still don't see how having a competitive field is a disadvantage. Go Bernie! Hopefully Biden jumps on this train too!

It's almost like Hillary didn't have to survive 8 years of mudslinging from the right, a failed healthcare reform proposal, serve as senator for another 7-8 years, then serve as Secretary of State for 4 years.

It's one thing to be enthusiastic for your candidate, and another thing to write revisionist history.

As for the poll results, they seem to roughly match Fox's results from last week. However, in comparison to Fox's results last week, it seems like Biden is the one peeling support from Hillary, not Sanders. Which sounds about right considering recent news.

I don't think we need a new thread for a new poll every week though. PoliGAF already turns into PollGAF 80% of the week every week, so it's not like the polls can't be discussed there. I think we have too many Donald Trump threads too...

So all those votes to Biden are probably people that hate Hillary and don't really know about Sanders enough yet. I'd imagine those will shift to his name in time.

He would have my
indirect
vote. But I sadly can't see that happening. Would be much more of an epiphany for American politics than a black or female president.

People want choices. Hilary is a coward who didn't agree to enough debates, while the Republican party is putting on a reality show with massive ratings. You can tweet to your supporters all day and show up to the donor class events but nothing compares with getting on a prime time debate.

If there's anyone who would be missing a last chance at a long sought goal to make history in this election, it's Hillary. She's built more of a candidate resumé than any other woman before her. While these factors shouldn't have serious influence on her electability, it isn't hard to see why many people are so aware of her candidacy from the start and why it would be a huge personal disappointment for her.

Bernie Sanders would lose to Jim Gilmore. This country will never elect an avowed socialist.

The GOP dominates off year elections so thoroughly the Democratic bullpen is bare. So you go with the Democrat that has a chance of winning, hope she puts the right judges in, and wait for next time.

Maybe not against Trump though. Bernie can beat Trump.
I don't think there's a clear Republican candidate who's a lock against Sanders based on their current debate performances, although between now and the general someone is bound to improve their game.

Still don't see how having a competitive field is a disadvantage. Go Bernie! Hopefully Biden jumps on this train too!
Because you have to be able to unite all your factions if you want a shot at the general. No competition is bad but Republican levels of competition can be bad for your chances.

I am perplexed why people think that the debates will help Sanders, or that Clinton will be bad at them.

Clinton dominated the debates in 2008. Barring one fuck-up with the illegal taxi driver license issue, she was head and shoulders above the rest of the field - and I say that as someone who was rooting for Obama from the get go. She is a *really* good debater, and has a grasp of policy most candidates don't come close to.

Florida being listed as a swing state is weirding me out. From my anecdotal experience that state is as red as it gets (space coast region)

This all while being aware that Florida has voted for Obama.

My country was as red as it could get.
