Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Can you send MSF soldiers on missions ala Assassins Creed Brotherhood?

That seems like a mechanic that would easily work here.

I think you could do that in Peace Walker but its been years since I touched it

Oddly enough this open world mission structure with equipment R&D and loadouts would be beautifully suited to MGS3's hunting, camo, and healing systems. Probably moreso than MGS3 itself.

Despite it's greatness, MGS3 felt like Kojima dreaming bigger than console tech of the time allowed him to. Although that's hardly a complaint because its the case with every game.

Looking it up now and yeah. BB founding Foxhound is one of those Portable Ops things that we can file under "kind of canon"

I dunno, FOXHOUND was mentioned in PW, plus the timeline at the end of MGS3 corroborates that; it says Big Boss formed FH in 1971 (Peace Walker occurred in 1974).

I think I read somewhere that MGS3 was originally intended to be more Open World in structure, as well as on PS3.

I swear, the Big Boss timeline is confusing as heck to me, I hope TPP clears it up.

Also, yeah, I remember reading that MGS3 was suppose to come out to PS3 but Kojima got tired of waiting for it to come out. Would have been pretty interesting to see how it would have turned out.

Yeah. The one thing I will say for it is that it is fairly consistent so far.

Ah cool.

Did you see the first E3 trailer for it? Barring the obvious similarities to the final version, it seemed quite a bit more open. Definitely would've been interesting.

Has anything been said about the microtransactions in the game? Because if they will be used to speed up the process of developing or availability of high class gear or staff in Mother Base, I can see these things being more difficult to obtain than in Peace Walker, just to try to break the players will and drive them to purchase these shortcuts.

I'm looking forward to the mental gymnastics involved that gets Big Boss back into the US' good graces so he can take command of FOXHOUND in the 90s.

Doesn't it turn out he was actually using Foxhound for his own reasons? I thought he has a heelturn at the end of Metal Gear that makes him the villian.

I just mean that Foxhounds founding is part of Portable Ops which took place in 1970.

I guess its one of the parts of that story they made 100% canon.

Yes you could do that in Peace Walker, I hope it becomes more fleshed out in Phantom Pain, it would be very interesting if you could actually play those battles instead of watching them play out in a turn based screen.

However, the game will be released worldwide on New Zealand time, so if you can download the game quick enough you can be playing it far earlier than anyone else.

East coast unlock time will be 8:AM 8/31/15

West coast 5:AM

Wait what? Are you telling me that digitally the game will be out basically a whole day before retail?

GAF has me triple checking thread titles here man.

few more days boys and girls. game unlocking at 8am on the 31st is amazing. should have it downloaded by 1 on my internet.

It's entirely possible that the Konami PR guy is fucking bonkers (it still seems too good to be true to me as well) but he does say:

@popcicle So we can download and play the game at 9/1 NZ time? That's 8/31 in my time zone.

Robert Allen Peeler ‏@popcicle Aug 19
@JFaze1988 yes, potentially. The official release time is 9/1 for all platforms, the differences between are a few hours considering DL time

Robert Allen Peeler ‏@popcicle Aug 19
@MrHooboMaster potentially, if you have a strong connection, you could DL the 28 GB and begin playing a few hours before console users

EDIT: He is talking specifically about the PC version, I'm not sure if I made that clear.

So there's the last ever Metal Gear Solid from Hideo Kojima released in less than 2 weeks, it's not even a long wait, but instead of experiencing it themselves, some people want do read all about it from a guide or forums.

Maybe they just don't care about the story but it's still pretty amazing.

Don't go to MGS Reddit either

As someone who loves the MGS subreddit, this. That place is such a minefield that you should expect a call from 140.48.

Yeah, dude, it's crazy. Like this is the game he has been dreaming of for 28 years and people want to spoil themselves in this last game. Smfh

Not everyone cares about being spoiled, especially since they will still play the game and see it all unfold as opposed to reading about it.

Eh, it isn't even about spoilers. If you intend on playing the game, then just play it. I mean, if you were going to go watch a movie tomorrow, would you go out of your way to see spoilers for the movie or just go and see it? Why not just wait?

I'm not going anywhere near spoilers, but if it doesn't bother them, who cares? I just want to know very, very general impressions when people get their hands on it early.

I care to know why. So the answer is me. I care. I want to know the mindset that goes "I'm about to play X game next week, but before that, I want to read about the entire story of this heavily story-based game right now."

For some people "I've wanted to know the answers to these mysteries for X number of years and now they are available to me" overrides "I am about to play a new game next week." *shrug*

Will the street date be broken by retailers like Mom and Pop shops? I need to know of one in or around the Chicagoland area? I don't know if I should start a thread about this or not.

Wait...you can play this 8/31 8am est? Is this actual fact? If so I need to take another vacation day!

I would love this thread even if I don't have any stores like that in south Florida.

I'm assuming the game should hit stores by Thursday (if anyone works at retail please confirm). So I might call around to see who'll sell it to me. If others can spread the word that would be sweet.

I will be disappointed if Lisa doesn't haunt your base. That Easter egg fits so perfectly kojima has had to think of it.

And he had the time to do it! I hope he does it.

My local store generally gets games a few days early. While I wish it was sooner, I'm crossing my fingers for friday next week, because I have an exam that day heh.

The wait is unbearable.

Yes, this is true - and now he says that this time he was finally able to make the Metal Gear he has always dreamed of making - since the very first game over 27 years ago. That alone excites me!!!
