NeoGAF Drawing-a-Day Thread

I wouldn't worry about time limits. Take all the time you need to make an image you're happy with. :)

Here are some mushroom concepts:

Those mushrooms look great! I wanna do some stuff like that sometime, instead of just full environments.

Thanks! I tend to a bit better with call outs rather than full enviros just because I get sucked too much into the details. I need to do better at seeing the whole image

Here's my morning warm-up, sticking in the comfort zone :P

Maybe in ten years, I'll be able to draw what the people here in this thread are drawing as "morning warm-up practice". (⊙_◎)

thanks nib95!

Messing around a bit more with this Snake portrait. Not in a hurry to finish it, just want to get it done by MGSV! :D Maybe I'll do a Quiet one as well

More 3-way collab stuff!

Inked/made clean lineart from a sketch of sailormoon drawn by someone else:

And coloured in Sailor Neptune linework that was sketched and inked by two others:

I suppose I should take more time on these things (everyone else's fully rendered stuff look so coooooool!!!) but I am.. impatient.

^ It's hard to critique without knowing what style you might be going for, but the first thing that stuck out to me was that her jawline looks a little too sharp and shaved down to a triangle in contrast to her more naturalistic body. There's a bit of a styel mismatch between her face/head and her lower torso.

As for random trash fluff from me..

Yeah I'm actually exploring stylization. Not necessarily manga and not necessarily comic/stylized realistic but trying to explore what works...

working on this.

Decided to take up a couple commissions again because I bought my sister a ticket to see me in England so. There we have it.

still quite rough. I'll be finishing it up and streaming it on Thursday most likely.

Yeah I had to speed up the video enough so it wouldn't bore the hell out of people :P
The selections are done because I was using a lot of very soft brushes to set the main colors and without selecting portions all the colors would end up blending together. Also use selection tool to add extra details in some areas with a big soft brush.

I don't use the actual gradient tool and the texture look is using custom shapes. If you search for those keywords plus Sparth, you will find examples of the techniques I tried to imitate.

I'm mainly lurking until I have time to get back into arting daily, but I just wanted to say I definitely see a huge Sparth influence in your work. Looks snappy.

Finished

I took a little longer on this one than I would have liked for a speed paint commission, but I was feelin it so I kept going until it felt just right. I'm trying to focus on images I want to create when doing commissions rather than just trying to show off as much of the character as possible this time around. It seems to really help with my approach I think when actually working on it. Feels less like work.

Thanks! Sparth is one of my main inspirations indeed :) I wanna try a bunch of styles though, but this one seems to be quite nice for getting stuff done fast.

Anyway, here's what I did today:

Some sketches using mainly orange and other warm tones.

Did this yesterday and decided I'll post it:

Spent way too much time fighting it rather than just friggen drawing it. I cannot do lips with my tablet for crap. I think I may just stick to traditional for drawing and digital for coloring from now on.

One thing that helps me a lot (in Photoshop) is to map the spring-loaded rotate tool to one of the buttons on the pen. Lines get much easier when you can rotate the canvas to match your most comfortable line angle. Mapping it to the pen button makes rotating feel quick and natural.

I am a complete drawing beginner, and I am currently working through the exercises in Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. These are from the contour drawing chapter and literally one of the first drawings I have done in over a decade since high school. I am quite amazed that it is actually not too hard to draw something that looks somewhat realistic, once you know how to do it.

Drawings of my left hand done on a tablet:

I actually have the rotate tool mapped as one of the four actions for the wheel on my intuos pro. May try it on the pen and see how it goes.

I have an Intuos Pro, too, but I stopped using the wheel for that. It is just not responsive and precise enough. On top of that, the wheel-based rotation does currently not work with Photoshop CC due to driver issues.

ElTorro, for a "complete beginner" that's pretty good. The lines are pretty clean too. Is there a reason why you used a brush without pressure sensitivity? Not that I don't like it, just wondering! :P

Thanks! The trick of using a picture plane with a grid of lines over your real life object really helped a lot.

There is no real reason why the brush I chose had so little variation. To be honest, I think I just selected one out of the big ass list of brushes that I bought from Kyle Webster and went with the first that looked ok.

The lines look very jittery, though. I wonder if that improves with practices as you being to make more wider and confident strokes with your elbow, or if you just need additional tools like stabilization or vector drawing to get these really clean lines.

This is actually a great idea. I never use it because it's mapped to my Intuos wheel which is too clumsy. Gonna try that out!

Decided to just mess around and have some fun along with practicing color and junk.

Also, came to a certain realization that I have yet to test out. If I start with the head first, like I did here, I can't do bodies or a pose of any kind. Must start with bodies first for that.

Hey daily drawers!

I'm going to pass by and encourage many of you to devote one or two of your daily drawings to this month's art challenge:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=177137258#post177137258
The concept is object, people, events, or places changing through time. Challenge yourself and get a little out of your comfort zone! you may find that you will have improved a bit ;)

( And also I Personally want to see this thing flourish a little more as it's had a pretty small following :( )
