Shouldn't Bungie give us a 4th character slot to experience all Destiny v2.0 offers?

Why do you need a fourth character slot?

Your character is nothing more than the sum total of your gear. Just put your class gear in your vault, and create a new identical character.

The limit on characters is to slow progression and prevent people from weaseling their way around weekly lockouts by making a ton of alternate characters.

What would be lost by deleting a saved game/character? ....... ok........ I'm done.
When was I ever arguing that something (rep, level gain) wouldn't be lost in regards to deleting a character in patch 2.0? Learn to read...peace!

Luckily, I still have a Level 2 Titan which I only created to fill in the 3rd character slot... so I'll gladly delete him and start the story mode over from scratch, to experience all the patch 2.0 changes (replaced Ghost voice acting, new organization of missions / quests, etc).

But many hard Destiny players out there have all 3 character slots with level 30/32/34 characters. Sure, you could just go back and replay the missions to experience the new voicework and presentation changes, but I think something would be lost without going at it fresh.

Bonus: I hope they update the free "demo" version as well... to give people on the fence a chance to try the NEW game and see if they find it better... I have a few skeptical friends that this would be good for...

I don't get why they only ha e three slots to start with. Bungie seems intent on policing how much people play their game. It's annoying.

Because then people would game the system even more.

Having all different classes puts you in a pretty big disadvantage when compared to people who have 3 of the same class.

On the plus side you know every class and can use all the exotics.

That said I want more slots so I can 3 of every class should I return

Wonder why didn't soulbind class gear

Exactly

3 slots is plenty

Can I put that character's rep level with vendors in the vault too?

Why does that matter

Rep level doesnt give that many inherent benefits and you would be better off leveling them up from scratch anyways now that the whole system is changing

Nice to see that new strike too, featuring ... a tank boss! You have to shot it's legs and stuff to blow them up. Sick!

As if gamers don't already spend too much time in destiny. :/

If you really want something like that just put your stuff in the vault, delete a char and start again. Or replay the missions, like you said, OP.

Well if they gave you a fourth character that would also be an extra attempt at nightfall/raid loot etc. each week as well. So that might be part of the reason to limit everyone to 3 characters.

Or they could err on the side of player choice and let us have more character slots but then implement a limit on the number of times you can receive high-end loot from the NF each week.

It used to, but not really anymore with all the ways you can upgrade / earn max level armor nowadays.

ok this argument is getting into parody territory

I'm not really sure what is "lost" by replaying the missions with a fully levelled character?

Did you really have that much fun slogging through the story with a bunch of grey & green gear? How is that more fun than just cranking the difficulty up and blasting through them with a Gjallarhorn?

That's literally another constraint that people have a way to complain about. Look, I don't make any claims to know how to balance a game to make everyone happy but I would assume you need to draw a line somewhere between choice and what's best for the vision you're trying to make for your game. As someone said earlier in the thread WoW gets away with adding a slot every time a new class is made. I don't see a reason why that system can't work here. I see nothing other than a personal reason for wanting to start over from scratch. You literally have nothing to gain form starting the story over (in the way of game rewards) when 2.0 drops. It's for your own personal preferences at point which is fine, but I don't think people should complain because bungie doesn't want to cater to people that think there should be more slots when 3 is enough for most people.

Nah, three is enough. If they introduce an entirely new class later instead of a sub-class then obviously yes. I have no want or need to approach the older content fresh with a new character of a class I already played. I'll just replay the missions with my current characters.

I dont even understand why theres a limit to begin with, i should be able to make as many characters as i want as long as theres memory space on my harddrive

I'd like more character slots, but I'm pretty sure it's also factored into the fact that you can get a drop per character in places with a weekly lockout.

Six is the golden number.

Why is there any golden number? If I want to play through as a titan 100 times, why can't I? Is it really just because they dont want you able to do the weekly challenges with 100 different alts? A) who has time for that, and b) what harm is that doing? Especially now with the new leveling system.

Because characters and everything else is STORED on a SERVER

Thats why if you wiped your PS4 today your character would remain intact

Its like an MMO in that respect and why vault space is linked

Might have something to do with that or some other imposed limitation

I don't think they want more than 3 because it'll probably be too easy for people to get exotics with 4+ characters. Then they might start losing players because they don't have as much to work towards. Not as much of a reason to keep playing since weapons will be easier to max out too with the extra XP/bounties from a fourth character. So I get why they haven't done it. I think they should though. Gives people a reason to play through the game/story missions again to see the changes.

I have 3 max characters but I might delete one of them to play through the game from the beginning with a friend who is going to be new to the game. Would've been nice if I could do that with a fourth character instead but oh well. I don't really lose anything so I'll get to keep all the armor/weapons I have for that class.

This actually brings up an interesting thing

Since the Loot system is being overhauled to consider gear you have already aquired... does it ignore other characters and the Linked Vault?

Not to mention Collections are linked as well. You guys are looking at this wrong

This isn't 3 characters. Its one character with 3 AVATARS linked together and assigned to your PSN account

Does Diablo 3 have a character limit just out of curiosity?

You can do that anyway. Click on story mission, select difficulty, play. The only thing you miss is the first story mission before your first trip to the tower. If you want to do that one two create a free sub account and start a new game.

They can but I don't think most veterans are going to do that. Maybe a couple times but I don't see people running most of the missions just to see the changes when the rewards are so little when you're maxed or near max level compared to other things you can be doing. They'll be dipping into the new stuff instead. It's much easier to run that stuff with a brand new character.

Economy has been somewhat calculated to top out at 3 characters. If you would have four that would mean even more exotics, marks, coins and everything faster.

You'll be playing the old content again and again anyway if you play a lot, so you'll hear most of Nolanbots lines eventually. For the very beginning of the game you can just create another profile and play the first two or three missions there.

The 3 character limit is clearly by design

Especially with TTK

Marks are linked, Glimmer is linked, Collections and Vault space are linked

Like I said you technically only have ONE character when you think about it

I could see how someone would have wanted more than 3 character slots in the early days. You could have an easier time leveling if they allowed more than 3 character slots because you had a better chance of hitting 30/32 if you were running 3x of the same class then if you had 1 each. But after Taken King drops, your level is no longer tied to your gear. So really, why anyone would want more than 3 slots I can't understand. What would you do beyond rolling one of each class?

Let me pose this question: If they didn't have activities that resulted in weekly payouts (nightfall, weekly heroic, etc), what would be the incentive to have 4 character slots (after already rolling one of each class)?

I'm torn... I'd really love a 4th character slot to go through the story again, but I can see why they wouldn't want to give you a 4th character to access yet another set of loot, raids, nightfalls, bounties, etc each week. With the amount of time I already dump into this game, a 4th character sounds burdensome. It sure would be nice to be able to pick up a few low level items that I want again though (some of the Hunter cloaks, the un-upgraded starter ship, etc).

I'm sure as hell not going to delete one of my current characters to go through it again. Too many stats and hours invested into their history to be ok with losing that.

Well with TTK you would actually be strained in a few ways with 4 "Active" characters

Since so much is now shared among them all you would be effectively spreading resources even thinner... the largest of those being legendary marks

Very true, a fourth slot would spread glimmer and marks too thin. I already don't like that marks are shared and capped in what you can hold.

Playing with a friend who is new to the game.

You could still do that though. There is no scaling once you hit the same level or above as the enemy you're attacking. And if you're afraid of having OP weapons or armor equipped you can still equip low level whites/greens/blues that you find along the way.

...? Only if there's a completely new class. 3 slots is fine for the game. Blizzard only does it when they introduce a new class or race, and Destiny is simply adding a new subclass to each of the 3 classes. So no, it wouldn't make sense to add a 4th slot.

Diablo 3 gives you like 10+ character slots for 5(6) classes, it is simply not an excuse.

To you. Maybe not to someone else. This push back between Destiny Gaf and Non Destiny Gaf is old and getting annoying. Especially as someone who plays the game and sits directly in the middle.
I think there's very few people that would use a 4th slot unless they introduced a new class.

I guess the best argument is playing through with a friend from the beginning, I am not sure how they would implement a 4th slot without a new class when it would throw things out of wack in my opinion but I guess if they charge for a slot or if it is included in an expansion.

I think it is completely valid because Diablo 3 needs the slots for both ladder and hardcore since characters are seperate for those modes.

Destiny doesn't have that issue.

There really is no reason not to just delete a character

You basically only lose rep levels which is kind of a non issue with all TTK changes

Diablo 3 gives you like 10+ character slots for 5(6) classes, it is simply not an excuse.

An excuse would suggest Bungie has failed to provide an adequate reason for not giving players a fourth slot. Has there been an uproar over another slot? Has Bungie said "no we can't."

As far as I can tell it revolves around three.

3 class, 3 subclasses, 3 weapon slots, Half Life 3; therefore 3 character slots.

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but theres also way more room for different builds among those 5/6 classes, and several different difficulties you might want to play that change the game considerably, some with permadeath.

Not that I'd argue against more player freedom, but you're missing nothing but weekly lockouts in Destiny by having three characters. Otherwise its the same game with all options available.

At some point it boils down to having a new bar to fill, and if thats all youre looking for delete the character and start over - all other progress can be saved in one way or another.

Thanks to collections and vault space you really lose next to nothing by deleting a character.

Sure you jave to relevel a few factions to 3 but they made that simpler than ever in TTK with new class items, perks, and the new allegiance system for factions

You now need to level back 40 (or 20+, depending on where you were).
