Through the whole opening I was just like "Jesus, is it fucking done yet?" Which is kind of funny coming from me, the one who likes all the crazy cutscenes in all the other Metal Gears, including 4. I was just thinking "this must be what it's like to be one of those that doesn't normally get as into Metal Gear scenes as me..."

It's just way too long for what it is and what control you get. Either give more control or speed that shit up.

lolol the irony...
kojima just cant win with cutscenes in mgs.. they're either

too long
too many
too far apart
too short
smh...
loved ever minute of the opening... its probably the longest one in the game best maybe the ending....

I see it as the best MGS opening really because it's full of mystery, dark as shit and mindfuck all over. On top of that,
it gave you the control which was something I'm not expecting lol, I was expecting an entire cutscene like all the other MGS games.

Edit:
I also forgot dat horse riding battle and damn that score when the credits start rolling.

geez guys I didnt HATE it, mostly cause its Metal Gear

but be real, we played the exact same thing as the reveal trailer, bit by bit, at a snail's pace

how can you be blown away / not get why some people wouldnt like to get control taken away and slowly go through something they have already seen?

I love how the game moves and I just wanted to move. they could have easily saved time for what it does plot-wise too

its not terrible, it just could be shorter and snappier

whatevs

I wonder what all I missed by taking the long senic route way around the first few camps...

Pretty good progress so far starting nearly 4 hours ago. Intro was fucking PHENOMENAL, super intense, a great hook into the game. Rescued Kaz, just finished 2 other main OPS and a translator side op. Found DD too!

same i loved it...

anyone on xbox one been able to transfer their ground zeroes save it just says i need to upload it within ground zeros but i cant see the option

The PC version runs on goddamn black magic. Concerned over nothing guys! Fantastic port, solid 60FPS. All smiles on my end.

Also! Turn off score in the display setting! No more "hits taken" or "headshots" counter, far less distracting.

Got my Collectors Edition PS4 today, installed, updated and redeemed the CE codes that came with the package (MGO codes are not redeemable at the moment).

Then I remembered the code inside the GZ box. Tried to redeem it on PSN and it just throws up an error. What gives?

Press triangle on each staff member to get a screen where you can see what each character's special skill is (including troublemaker). The first column represents whether they have a skill so you only need to check those.

thanks a lot.
so i was guessing right (sort of) :)

The whole thing I think. "Don't touch that dial now, we're just getting started". You'll come across it during the story missions.

Cool. I don't have the game yet, but I'm glad they didn't remove any references.

I couldn't wait for it to be over. I got the point after 15 minutes.
Show me the muscle atrophied movement bits in a cutscene. I didn't enjoy having zero freedom of movement aside from pressing forward on a stick to make BB flail around like we've already seen in early trailers. That shit was criminal bad.

Thank goodness the game gets 1000 times better once you're given total freedom an hour or two into the game.

not everyone watches them over and over or even once.... i knew the game would start where it did, but i only watch trailers once and that one was what like a year or 2 ago....
i stayed in the dark for the most part... i don't ruin games by watching stuff on it and analyzing media over and over before i play the main game.... it of course may be a little bit of a drag on a second play-through, but I didnt see if i could skip any of it, plus that will be a loooong time from now i see myself putting 100 hours first time through.

Can't give this game a 10. If it had co-op it would be a perfect score. How on earth after peace walker did they not include it in this game. It's the perfect game for it.

awesome...just tried to reload a checkpoint after failing a task and I was still able to do it. So there is really no penalty to reloading in this game at all.

so you agree that you get why some people might not enjoy it as much and find problems with it and how others dont

that's all

also I watched the trailer like 2 times and the first one was when we were all basically guessing it was Metal Gear on TPP reveal thread

its not about ruining games for yourself, even if I loved the intro I could still perfectly understand how it might not be everyone's cup of tea to have to so slowly go through something like that

limited slow movement is rarely a good thing in videogames

I felt the intro gave a lot more info than the reveal, the way things played out in it really kept me on my toes as to what was really going on and
who I was actually playing as.

Also,
dat Quiet reveal.

Finished up a few missions and side ops, found baby D Dawg. Think Imma call it a night. It's everything I hoped it would be.

Also, Kaz rescue mission spoielrs:
Did anyone not get caught by the Skulls? I just booked it on the horse.

Also interesting is it's near the top in the most played Xbone games. Only Destiny, GTA5, and Fifa are above it.

I could see where people are coming from with the intro being slow but goddamn, the dude just got out of a 9 year coma haha.

it's def needed, I just wish games found another way to handle that stuff maybe

there's a dissonance between what's engaging / fun and what has to happen for plot reasons, dunno. its an interesting dilemma

either way, it eventually ends and the game is fantastic so far

Just use your empty magazine and throw it to the right side of the bridge where the skull dudes are, there is a slop on the right so they should be heading down or at least to the right and then you could just crouch walk past them on the left side of the bridge. After passing them just call your horse again and then book it.

Oh wow, that mirror bit in the opening really confused me at first.

I'm about to start the 4th mission now, it's been great so far.

The outro outstayed its welcome for me very quickly and it wasn't because of the narrative reasoning of the coma.
It was a super long intro, really laid on way too many scenes that established the same points over and over (we get it, the flaming man is scary and water is the only thing that defeats him!), as well as taking forever to (re)introduce its tutorial mechanics because story literally got in the way.

These are just my opinions. I'm still really enjoying the game, but I could not wait for that intro to end. It's probably going to be the worst part of the game for me, so I'm glad it was literally the first thing that I "got out of the way" along the path to the open world meat.

Seems like it. I can kinda see why Konami would take his name off the box, it's said enough times during the game. I get he wanted it more episodic but it's a bit much having every mission have intro and outro credits.

I think it actually hurts more than helps. Considering this is the most open-feeling Metal Gear game to date, it's odd that he decided to go with an episodic approach.

That being said, it's still dumb that they took his name off the box.

Those who hated the intro are blowing my mind right now.

To be fair, I think a lot of people (you included unfortunately) did really overhype the thing.

Very minor spoilers for the intro ahead.

It's a phenomenally well directed intro, if it was in a movie it would be an all-time classic scene. However it being the intro to an MGS game, I expected
something more meaningful. There is basically nothing meaningful in the intro, there's no real plot bar the overall situation. Its just a series of action/violent set-pieces. Really disappointed me. Considering I was all prepped for mind-blowing twists or confusing anachronisms or whatever. Instead it's just a really good escape scene.

Isnt Ishmael voiced by Sutherland too? That really threw me off. And Fireman and the Psychic girl also having physical elements of BB added confusion.

Yeah - that Ishmael is probably you too in some way. Still it makes no sense although things he said like "You are talking to yourself" gave it away. That Fireguy has the same wounds and chips in his face as BB.

Early tape spoiler connected to that above:
Later you learn from a tape that the horn can cause hallucination but it doesn't make sense as Ocelot clearly also sees the Fireguy
