The quioted person's advice is very good on the whole, except they're wrong about KO time.

The longest KO time is the five-punch combo. Knows em out for 10 mins or something. Slamming into walls is second longest. Choking or tranquilising is third longest. Shortest is just throwing guys one their back or kicking them while they're lying down.

Wall-slam and choke/tranq may be the other way around, though. Choke/tranq may be second longest and wall-slam may be third.

Tranq lasts at least twice as long as choke.

This is the stupidest shit ever and it's really fucking me off. It's ruining the experience for me because not only does it mention which boss (if any), but it also fucking tells you which mecha you'll encounter in that specific mission.

It's supposed to be episodic I think but yeah, it's rather silly. Like a bunch of mini-MGS games in one package.

I love this game so far. The ability to be creative, the amount of options you have, the sense of scale and thrill etc.

While I have some problems I have to concede that there's no game like this, and there probably won't ever be anytime soon. Kojima and KojiPro are in a league of their own when they're making these games.

I'm currently using this song for my Helicopter speakers. I love the nice little details like this and I'm glad that they implemented these lovely custom soundtrack features in the game. Even though there's time displacement with some tracks I just love scouting while listening to a good old tune.

Just picked it up. Very excited! Only really played MGS3, I have a very general idea of the series' history story-wise.
My question is, should I play Ground Zero first? I kinda want to just skip to the main game but if it's important I'll play it.

Thoughts?

The enemies never spill the location of their allies to me. The only thing that works for me in interrogation is the "spill it" option.

Also is the thing you can miss at Mother Base a big deal?

Yeah it's realy annoying and kills the surprise. What a silly idea. I wouldn't mind it at all if it didn't say the mechs and the bosses. I've just started looking away.

yeah this shit is dumb as fuck

not sure what Kojima was thinking here

I honestly wish I didn't have to sit through the 30 second helicopter landing sequence, too. I figure that's there to mask loading times? Surely?

I would play the main mission in GZ at least. It really isn't that long at all.

Missions 30 spoiler
sehthanpawhatever is the fucking WORST boss in the history of metal gear. No fun to play whatsoever and has a 1 hit kill in a fight that can take 10 minutes at a time. Shameful design.

Haven't picked it up yet, so how grindy does this feel in SP? I already know story is sparse just curious if bases at least seem to have good diversity in terms of design and layout, mission objectives, etc. I recall seeing some Assassin's Creed comparisons in terms of mission bloat, curious if missions stand apart from one another that much.

I'm pretty sure Kojima expected Konami to pull some fuckery in regards to his name on the box. Now no one will have any doubts.

it's important, play it

WHAT HUH. I tried going the other way around them and it told me I was leaving the mission and they had a pretty solid line set up there. I guess I'm just not sneaky enough. Can't wait to replay missions in this game.

Walk on to the bridge, throw a magazine to the pit to the right of the bridge, lure the two Skulls to the right down there, get on your horse and haul ass, the two to the left won't spot you.

Well apparently the really long opening is supposed to mask the install time so yeah I assume that's their cute little way of having a loading screen.

If nothing else I think of it as Kojima's way to say "fuck you Konami" for scrubbing his name out of the marketing lmao

I think you get one or the other. If you pick "spill it" first, the other option will give you nothing and vice-versa.

Look back at the early interviews with Kojima about Phantom Pain, he mentions that they weren't sure if they were going to release the game as episodic or not. Clearly, they decided not to, but the framework is still there.

would have preferred chopper travel time to be honest. heightens immersion and you can listen to sweet music

I just got medical base in my MB, there is a room you can enter and you get cutscenes with
Paz_________,
(I don't think it's spoiler since you saw it's a character that appear in E3 trailer), next part is totally spoiler talking about the cutscenes
wth is happening, are they changing Ground Zeroes or is this another of BigBoss hallucination? there are Miller and Ocelot in that scene though, unless they're also hallucination

also, are there any scenes like this in MotherBase that I'm missing? I totally got this by accident and I imagine many people can easily missed this if they don't explore MotherBase.

I've actually taken out outpost communications radars and killed a couple guys using the door gun while landing a few times.

The worst is "quick travelling" between Mother helipads. They flight path is super fun and cool the first time, but fuck doing it more than once. It takes like 2-3 minutes.

To those looking to get a Steel book off of eBay without getting played like a damn fiddle, this is what my legit UK copy looks like:

You can just about make it out in the bottom right of the inside case, there's the Steelbook logo and copyright.

There's also some reference numbers on the inside of the spine.

Disconnect option from the menu is enough I think.

I read that once you set up it can be invaded even when you're offline. You get the losses tallied when you next log on.

Wish we had some clear information about it as it seems like a worthless part of the game if it's going to impede progress.

My bad about punches and thanks for correcting me, this bit was empirical and I guess in the confusion of the fight I thought the dude getting up super quickly was one I had punched (I rarely punch). I still think tranqs work better than any kind of stun though.

When you press to Disconnect it says "game will begin in offline" so I'm assuming that if I never go online mode again I should be cool.

We out in two more hours my East Coast brethren.

Haha, I needed this.

Jesus, today is painfully slow at work.

Feel you guys. Almost there...

This game is going to suck so much time out of my life for the next few weeks.

Brothersssss!

Longest work day ever. Worst thing is it's a slow day at work so the time is drawn out that much longer.

Thursday, Friday and Monday off though!

Was getting annoyed at Ocelot's southern accent because I could have sworn he had a Russian accent in MGS1. Now mind you I probably haven't played it in 15 years, so my memory must have gotten it wrong because color me surprised when I looked up video of Ocelot in MGS1 and he has a southern accent.

the Ohko move is very obvious and has a long tell and it's easy to avoid.
it's a pretty cool boss with lots of mechanics.
