This is so awesome, I am spying on those soldiers who are speaking Afrikaans. I don't have an interpreter yet but I can nearly fully understand what they were saying. They really are using all these languages.

I got to play for a few hours last night and then a couple of hours this morning. I've not progressed very far, but what I've played I've absolutely loved.

Except for that intro. I simultaneously loved it and was incredibly frustrated by it. All of this waiting to jump into MGS and Kojima has us spend an hour crawling around as a gimp?

I get it, and it's fine, but I think it's interesting that
there's no transition between you being a total weakling to your standard badass IN TWO WEEKS
. Granted, I'm thankful there weren't any awful mandatory training sections, and that what I spoiler tagged would've been easy for most developers to use just for that very purpose.

Still, beautiful, mind blowing intro that had me really interested to see what head trippy stuff happens in this game. I already encountered the you-know-what toward the beginning, and it's already obvious that Kojima isn't going to let us out of this franchise without getting real deep into the weird again.

Outside of that, I love the mission structure of this game. I know there are folks who don't care for the Peace Walker thing, but I dig being able to replay the same missions for better upgrades and personnel if I choose, and I think the MB management stuff is going to be a blast.

Look forward to playing online with you guys when MGO launches!

That's because the Fox Engine adapts to your tactics, meaning if you did a bunch of missions doing nothing but tranq people in the head they will sooner or later use helmets.

Just try out different items and tactics, there are TONS of options.

I dont know

The game went from a few guys with guns to constant mortar strikes helmets and tanks

Ugghh, I don't know guys.

This is a great game, but it doesn't really feel like a Metal Gear game so far. I just met
Skullface
again after nearly 10 hours of playing. Someone reassure me that the story returns to the heights of the prologue/opening mission?

Where were you in the game when the installing game data screen showed up?

For me it was near the end of the prologue and I fixed it by uploading my savegame to the cloud, deleting the game and then reinstalling it again.

After that I got to the same screen again but this time the counter was working.

The prologue was over and I was ready to move onto the next mission. Ocelot and I were off to Afghanistan. I tried that without success several times. Just made another attempt unsuccessfully. I'm gonna lose my fucking mind. I'm looking at my fifth installing game data screen right now.

EDIT: AHH IT FINALLY STARTED MOVING THANK FUCKING GOD

still have 250 seconds though

if you want linear scripted, this game doesn't do that often, but when it does it's good.

prologue is so inteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeense

follow the ass crack

It doesn't, and eh. How big of a Metal Gear fan are you? If you're a fan of the story and have been following everything, then yeah, it's worth it to play Ground Zeroes as it's primary job is to bridge the gap from Peace Walker to The Phantom Pain, but if you're just jumping into this one, nothing you learn in Ground Zeroes is going to matter to you, and this game summarizes that one pretty well.

i've played everything but Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes--do I need to watch a story catchup on peace walker?

Yeah, I would do that. The relevant story information from Ground Zeroes is literally 3-4 cutscenes that total about 25 minutes, so if you want to be thorough without dropping the extra $20, a let's play of that will get you the entire plot.

Played a little over three hours and just finished up the mission where you learn how to fulton people on mother base. A little worried all the missions are going to be extract / kill but we'll see. Really like the gameplay and all, just miss my old MGS style game.

What the fuck is going on with this game? I have uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times and it won't fucking work. I can't play the goddamn game because it won't get past "Installing game data..."

Somebody please help me.

I am severely distressed.

What system are you on? Had this issue with the PS4 version, just kept restarting the game and the countdown got shorter. After doing it a few times it was going too slow so I completely shut off the PS4 and turned it back on and it loaded the next area with no countdown.

Got my collectors edition guide today, so nice.

Progress wise I completed mission 6, got my GZ save DL'd and rockin' a gold arm while waiting for DD to grow up.

there any way to tell which soldiers might be most worth to recover in-game other than guessing from their position / etc ?

wanna get the language thing asap too for interrogation but not sure if that's just extracting anyone

I was Prologue levels of brutal invading an enemy FOB in retaliation to their invasion.

Put on the ground, quick look to see their rank, if they don't have a B or above a bullet to the mouth then on to the next guy.

I didn't plan on killing, but they killed my men first.

I think relatively early on you can buy an upgrade that let's you see each soldier's stats through your binoculars. They had it in Peace Walker, and Brad had it in the Giantbomb Quicklook for Phantom Pain.

Anyone know if the stuff you collect to mother base stays when you die and go back to a checkpoint? I know the marked enemies stay marked so I'm hoping I don't have to go back and re-collect everything.
