And then he was promptly taken over by Liquid Snake's ghost.

Well whether or not that scene was intended to be ironic at the time or it was just retconned, by the end of MGS4 the whole Liquid possession thing was explained away with technobabble as a ruse to fool the Guns of the patriots. Nanomachines. Or something. You know. So it was (very) soft sci-fi, pretty much exactly what Ocelot was saying at the time, making that scene being an expected ironic counter point actually doubly ironic by subverting that? Who knows with kojima, whether he intends half the shit you can read into.

Was there ever an explanation as to why established voice actors were replaced? They all sound, in my opinion only, worse than their previous VAs

You know, i could stand them sounding worse... but what I absolutely fucking hate is that Kaz and Ocelot and Snake sound exactly the same to me, they all have the same voice pitch, whereas in other MGS games, every character sounded so diferent.
Think Raiden, old ocelot, coronel, solid snake, zero, etc, if you're a MGS fan by reading those names their voice and their personality will instantly jump at you, this time around everyone sounds the same to the point that I actually have no idea if it's Kaz or Ocelot that speaks to me when I press L1 or when I'm listening to a tape.

The phantom pain is the only MGS game I've ever played so sorry if this is a stupid question.

I'm only about a quarter through the games story but somethings been bugging me since starting.

Are supernatural things like fire demons actually a part of the metal gear series?

That was actually part of the appeal of early metal gear games. You were a normal soldier going up against all sorts of super natural freaks. In most metal gear games, the antagonists are an organization where each member has some crazy power, and those powers change. You get everything from cyborg ninjas to people who cannot be shot to a guy who can control bees.

Well, there was also the part right after where
Fortune deflected a giant barrage of missiles with her mind
.

You probably should ask for a refund.

I think I'm surprised at myself for loving the game even though I hated PW. It's a joy to control and play. I think when I thought about how a linear game about BB building what he lost and returning as a legend, it made sense that it can't be done in any other way but this, on top of that you truly feel like BB in every sense.

I think the missions are not just a grind, they make sense as you're building your base you're taking out important figures within the region or are in cahoots with Cipher/other private forces. On top of that if you fulton them instead of taking them out sometimes you get more information about the person and probably other minor things within the story itself aside from them working for you. I always fulton whoever they tell me to eliminate lol.

EDIT: The story still has batshine insane moments, just spread out.

Perhaps its not for you... I enjoy the many nods to Souls games (spartan story, no hand holding, figure it out yourself gameplay), but maybe not for everyone.

Thanks, your infos confirm that I don't want to play more of it.

Unfortunately the long intros insured that I got 2 hours over the time limit before I could know what it was truly all about. I'm afraid Steam will deny me the refund and I'll be stuck with a game I don't want to waste any time on. A shitty situation.

I deeply regret having pre-ordered this.

how is this bothering you

it's the best thing about it

otherwise it'd be dudebro stealth #456

POSSESSION THROUGH DISMEMBERED ARMS BBY

This was asked earlier, dunno if whoever asked got an answer though. Can we salute our soldiers in MB? I want to so badly. I wanna be the nice Boss, not the cold mean one.

Ocelot inexplicably (well, not inexplicably) picked up a heavy Southern accent at some point so that's how I tell them apart

I researched an upgraded chopper, does anybody know how I equip it?

Even for a metal gear game, the prologue is crazy as shit. Past metal gear games had relatively quiet and normal prologues.

Hell, I think
flaming demon Volgin riding flaming unicorn
is the craziest supernatural thing the series has done thus far.

As I posted before I can't use my credit card on PSN for some reason, so I've been really upset about not being able to get this game. (No game shops in the country I live in, and shipping from Amazon US is expensive and could take a month or more)

So upset that after work I've been going home, going on the web-app and PS4 store and just trying to buy it again and again, forlornly, stupidly. Same rejection error that makes no sense every time. It worked a month ago, it doesn't work now, no one has any answers. Sigh.

So today I get home, try it, rejected, try it, rejected, probably putting my card on some fraud list as I do so, just reading GAF just clicking away and tapping X on the controller, and BOOM - holy SHIT - for some reason it went through! I'm actually going to get to play this game! It's downloading right now good god almighty shiiiiiiiiii

Now I've got to finish the Witcher tonight or tomorrow. I'm up for that challenge. Sadly I think I may have been spoiled about something major in MGSV, but the Big Boss story seems so convoluted at this point that I can't even be sure. I still wish I knew a little less about the game in general, but my hype is as high right now as it has ever been for a game and the trailers were worth it.

Now if only I didn't have 1Mb/s internet :(

Inb4 50 separate $59.99 charges. Buying stuff on PSN used to always scare me, such a shody service to be putting my money at their mercy.

I haven't heard Kaz yet but in GZ they definitely sounded different. Has something changed? You're the second person to say this so something must be different.

you punch em in the face and they say "thank you boss"

you ARE being nice boss

Mission 1 question:
should I be hitting up all these posts on the map or should I go get intel and then head for kaz? I'm overwhelmed by everything.

There are some sidequests that you can do. Check your iDroid. There is almost one thing to do at each location.

I would love to read a bunch of stories the rank and file tell about Big Boss. Soldiers can tell some crazy stories, so you know stories about Snake would be awesome.

dunno if im a fan of main missions having the secondary objectives hidden on your first go at em

altho there seems to be a pattern of them just being soldiers to extract?

Even for a metal gear game, the prologue is crazy as shit. Past metal gear games had relatively quiet and normal prologues. Metal gear solid 2s is one of the best - an infiltration of a tanker.

It's pretty shocking, even expecting it to be insane going in. It makes the ending sequence of Ground Zeroes look pretty tame.

Incidentally, can anyone explain how to complete the prologue
without any kills? I tried shooting fire extinguishers and other things but it had no effect on the soldiers. I assumed you have to revisit later and maybe you'll have a tranq gun available... or maybe there was a tranq all along? I didn't even think to check. I just don't see how you can do that without guns blazing.

Red Dead Redemption horses still have this beat bro

yup d horse gallops to fast.. rdr has the best horse controls evra...

guessing when he pops up might be random?

Yeah I uploaded GZ last night and got Kojima this afternoon.

Edit:

Agreed. It feels very Ubisoft to me. It's prisoners but also destroying random objects and finding rough diamonds.

d horse sucks. both RDR and Witcher 3 have it beat

super janky

I want a fuckin motorcycle or something, whenever I get my diamon dogs jacket

I'm sorry guys, I hated Peace Walker, and MGSV seems to be more of the same shit.

I am honestly surprised you didn't know this going into 5.

Everyone knew with the Mother Base mechanic being in MGS5 that the game was going to be Peace Walker 2. Especially with GZ also being in the mission format.

I can understand being surprised at the format if you hadn't played PW. I do think it's going to put a number of people off who are not familiar with PW thinking they are getting a classic MGS game; but if you played PW, you knew what you were getting.

When and how do those show up?
Right now ocelot told me kaz needs to be rescued quick so I rushed to the base where he was... I didn't see any side ops on my i droid.

its not like this is incorrect, but I didnt really like Peace Walker and im loving MGSV so far.
