I don't like how when you get on D-Horse and start riding during the mounting cutscene he'll try and swerve in the way the camera is pointing instead of just going forward

Also the camera not automatically reorientating if you're riding in a certain direction after a while can get irritating.

I don't use D-Horse too much

There are some sidequests that you can do. Check your iDroid. There is almost one thing to do at each location.

welp. I missed a ton of stuff then. I knew it. I only did the two main objectives. Those must have been the ones that were hidden in the iDroid.

Second question! These comms arrays that soldiers are using to communicate with their HQ, can they be destroyed by simply shooting them, or do I need some kind of explosive device?

I'll ask this again because I'm still wondering the answer. I have a Side Op that I completed, but it still shows the dot notification and is listing it as playable again, even though it has the check next to it. What's up with that?

The satellite looking ones need C4 I think, because I haven't been able to destroy one from shooting, the radios indoors can be shot.

Just answered my own question hahaha. Grenades do the trick.

And yet somehow immediately after I blew it up, someone got on a radio and let CP know that there was an explosion and now they're alerted to my presence. Odd.

A little hint for people who are tired of having to call a chopper after a side op, wait for it to arrive and then wait for it to depart so you can go back to the ACC.

If you complete a side op, it saves the game. Go to options (left side touchpad on PS4), press "Return to ACC" and it'll ask you if you're sure since you'll lose all progress since the last checkpoint. You won't lose anything though since the game just saved. You'll then instantly be in the ACC.

I wonder if this will get patched because you have to spend GMP to call a chopper but using this method, you return to the ACC right away... for free.

It's pretty shocking, even expecting it to be insane going in. It makes the ending sequence of Ground Zeroes look pretty tame.

Incidentally, can anyone explain how to complete the prologue
without any kills? I tried shooting fire extinguishers and other things but it had no effect on the soldiers. I assumed you have to revisit later and maybe you'll have a tranq gun available... or maybe there was a tranq all along? I didn't even think to check. I just don't see how you can do that without guns blazing.

For the first gun fight, wait long enough, Ishmael will kill them, for the entrance hall I think it is possible to walk past through them, it is likely hard to do though.

Anyone still worrying about the lack of story in MGSV should really try not to.

I've just reached
Episode 20
and I feel like cutscenes are starting to appear much more regularly now. There's even more dialogue from Snake at this point. Oh, and they're fucking awesome when they arrive too. Although more set apart than in previous MGS games, I feel like every single one in this game has me on the edge of my seat.

It's fucking great.

Fire away!

The local guards know when it gets destroyed though.

Edit: Bumhead, how are you likeing Kiefer?

There needs to be a failsafe for going out of the mission area. Ended up losing 30 minutes of play running away and I was going too fast for even the first warning to finish.

its not like this is incorrect, but I didnt really like Peace Walker and im loving MGSV so far.

Probably because PW is a walk in the park and the mission were so bite sized and focused due to being on mobile. Whereas 5 is freedom central and there is far more variety.

Plus DD.

My guess is to ensure the fastest way of getting a highly skilled soldier and a good amount of currency. Making grinding less of a pain but in all honesty if you do side ops with main missions while fultoning everyone, you'll already be having more than enough without resorting to grinding.

I am honestly surprised you didn't know this going into 5.

Everyone knew with the Mother Base mechanic being in MGS5 that the game was going to be Peace Walker 2. Especially with GZ also being in the mission format.

I can understand being surprised at the format if you hadn't played PW. I do think it's going to put a number of people off who are not familiar with PW thinking they are getting a classic MGS game; but if you played PW, you knew what you were getting.

Well, I was hoping for the side mission to stay on the side, and for the possibility to play out a continuous and cool Metal Gear Solid story in one uninterrupted go (as I've been used to on console MGS).

I was too naïve I guess.

You know, i could stand them sounding worse... but what I absolutely fucking hate is that Kaz and Ocelot and Snake sound exactly the same to me, they all have the same voice pitch, whereas in other MGS games, every character sounded so diferent.
Think Raiden, old ocelot, coronel, solid snake, zero, etc, if you're a MGS fan by reading those names their voice and their personality will instantly jump at you, this time around everyone sounds the same to the point that I actually have no idea if it's Kaz or Ocelot that speaks to me when I press L1 or when I'm listening to a tape.

Damn, I thought I was just being crazy. Usually I have an ear for voices, but these 3, especially Kaz and Ocelot, far too often sound alike. It's when Ocelot's thicker accent comes in where I know it's him. Or when Kaz is more passionate and then sounds like a random DD soldier (who also did Arthur's voice, I think, in Young Justice - common VA).

Managed to do my first No Kills + No Alerts + No Retries mission, but took ages so got an A rank. Incidentally it was the
save Emmerich
mission.

He's completely fine.

I've never watched 24 or are that familiar with any of his other work, so I can't compare his performance in this to any TV stuff. And I was also pretty annoyed when it first came out that Hayter wasn't doing it. But independent of both of those things, I think it sounds like he did a good job. Definitely just feels like Big Boss to me now.

And like I say, I think the ratio of his dialogue has evened itself out now too. The last few cutscenes I've seen in the game have had him speaking in two way conversations, in addition to the tapes where he frequently does. Like a fair few things relating to the narrative of this game, I feel like a lot of the "Silent Snake" talk has been overblown.

Or if you're as lazy as me... use your tranq sniper rifle from so far away he doesn't even see it coming.

Made that thing today. Gonna try that out on the next. Or, I use Quiet with tranqs, which I can also do now. Anyhow, those missions are free rewards as there is nothing else.

Spoilers for a tape after mission 3
2

Man, Codetalker surprised the hell out of me. Really dig the character and that tape about hamburgers is fucking hilarious.

I've just raided one of the larger camps with Quiet tranq sniping from one side and myself doing the same from the other.

It was incredible.

Awesome. Appreciate the in-depth impressions. I honestly thought Hayter was a self parody in PW, and was psyched on Kiefer's GZ performance.

That moment in the intro when Big Boss
looks at his prosthetic and freaks out

That was legit. For all the complaints that Kojima gets leveled at him, he does shit that other people won't often do in gaming. Pretty powerful moment

Can you keep extract high skill targets in missions where the objective is to kill/extract them to add them to your mother base?

I'm thinking of the 3rd or 4th mission in Chapter 1.
