Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC performance thread

I hate how the controls are presented. I don't want to use a controller. When I got D-Walker I couldn't figure out how to switch to speed mode because all the controls are presented with the controller. Super annoying.

i7-2600 (non-k version)
16gb ram
980ti

Everything maxed out at 1080p. I've not seen the fps drop once and that's while streaming at 60fps to twitch.

Annoying to see all those controller symbols all the time.
It's funny how they only bothered to do conversions for half of the prompts -

the solution is to dual wield a game pad and a mouse in this case it seems :p

How do I change the quality of hair?
Looks atrocious and has a lot of Aliasing.

Downsampling hard is about the only thing that's gonna alleviate that. Once you get into gameplay though it's not so horrible, it just looks really chunky up close.

Anyone having trouble with the AMD Sapphire R9 280X? Most of the time my experience is flawless but every once in a while the screen distorts into lines, locks up, and I'm informed that the "Display driver has stopped working and recovered." I usually have to reboot my PC.

Is this related to the Phenom issue outlined in the OT? Please help!

Any other problems with that card in other games?

You filthy people and your hating on glorious DOF.

The problem I have with it is that it's effectively a camera effect. I have excellent vision in real life, and shit does not get so fucking blurry if something is behind/further away than my focal point, and things aren't blurry unless it's litterly inches away from my face. DOF is far too exaggerated and just makes things blurry for the sake of making them blurry.

Has anyone been able to get this to work with gedosato? I wanna take screenshots at full resolution (before downsampling) by pressing a button on my 360 controller.

Everything on low or disabled is the only way I can't get 60 fps at 1080p with a 4770k and a r9 290.

Something wrong with the prolog?

Edit: I was wrong.
Now there is fire and I only get 50 fps.

At 720 p.

Wtf?
Newest beta drivers.

Everything but Lighting and Shadows at Max, Boardless no Vsync, with an average ~55fps, practically 60fps 80% of the time.

I am kind of surprised at the rather low quality textures the game uses in a lot of places. There have been a ton of scenes where shit has looked pretty rough. Geometry is also often pretty meh, but that's what you get with a cross gen game. Otherwise it's pretty stellar and still quite good looking overall.

Did an all day marathon yesterday, super fun, but all those slow ass helicopter rides we're draining my soul. Can't wait to get home and play some more.

Mods should hopefully be coming soon.

Looking forward to trying to disable FXAA and seeing how SMAA does in game.

I was under the impression the game's graphical option for DOF and post processing does not affect cutscenes at all?

Anyone know if that's true? I'd like to turn in-game DOF off but keep it for cut scenes.

My EVGA GTX 960 FTW card seems to be handling the game pretty dang well.

Have it paired with an AMD FX-8350 and a single stick of 8GB DDR3 running at 2048x1152 with everything on Extra High except for Effects and Post Processing which is at High. Have HBAO+ enabled via NCP and AO ingame disabled.

Looks like a consistent 60FPS in the Prologue, although there was some odd slowdown during one of the cutscenes (
hiding under beds with Ishmael and watching patients get executed resulted in some massive frame drops for a bit but then recovered quickly
)

Is there some advantage to running borderless fullscreen aside from triple buffering? I'm using a GSYNC monitor, so that would make it pointless unless there's some other benefit.

Ever since unlocking the ability to expand the mother base(about 6 or so mission in I think) I've getting stuck at a black screen after it finishes loading. Even restarting the game and hitting continue just gets me the black screen. I've reinstalled the game and just download the beta patch but nothing is fixing it... And the game was working just fine before.

I5-3450 @ 3.5 GHz
R9 290x
16GB Ram

Everything on max except for 3 things. One is shadows and the other is terrain textures. Can´t remember the other one. Had one little drop in the Prologue to 50 during an explosion otherwise it runs perfectly at 60fps.

Updating.

Since i´ve seen some questions regarding the 290x performance. Upped all the settings to max. At 1080p. Still a perfectly locked 60fps. Feels good man.

Started on lower settings, because i had a 7870 the last few years and i hate when i have framerate issues, so i always started on lower settings. Still a bit paranoid about it lol.

High settings (hbao+ and very high textures) , ranges from 30 to 60 fps, so better than ground zeroes.

CPU: Q6600 at 3.2GHz
GPU: GTX 670 4GB
6GB RAM

At 1920x1200. Far exceeding my expectations. The prologue being closed off netted me 60 fps locked for most of it. Super impressed.

I had the framerate take a dive there too.

Anyone else experience major issues with the emblem maker on PC?

I get an unbreakable 60 FPS with this game, but when I went in to make an Emblem, the game dropped to single digit FPS as I scrolled through the options. It was practically unusable.

Anyone else experience that?
I have this issue as well, max settings and this occurs.

GTX 970
i7 4790K

Sometimes during cutscenes it drops for no reason too.

My machine is too weak to compare what posted in thread like GTX 970 and i7 high stuff but :)

my little machine

DELL 5521

HD 8730M
i7 1.9 Ghz 4 CPU
8 GB RAM

I am playing this medium some high
30 fps locked no frame loss. If i dont lock to 30 its going around 39-45 but i dont like occasional frame drops so 30 lock.

While GZ ran medium 30 not even higher even something were low

That sounds like a driver problem, what version are you using? I'm on 15.8 beta driver and it's been fine.

The GeForce experience suggested that I run it at 2517x1527 DSR on my GTX 970, but I didn't set it at that resolution for fear of a performance drop. You're saying that it still runs at 60fps or close?

I didn't have a frame rate display turned on, but it definitely felt like it was holding 60 the whole the time. I'm usually really sensitive to frame rate drops.

Do keep in mind that I'm using a G-Sync monitor, which allows for variable frame rates without stuttering or tearing. It may have dropped some and I just didn't notice it.

Just for reference, I'm using an i5 2500k @ 4.2 Ghz, 16GB 1600 Mhz RAM, a GTX 970 and I'm playing the game on an SSD.

Framerate is buttery smooth, everything maxed. I just get random drops down to around 10 in cutscenes. Happened twice. Any news?

It happens when the game renders another viewport, it is just a temporary thing for some reason.
Anyone know if that's true? I'd like to turn in-game DOF off but keep it for cut scenes.

According to the Geforce Guide, that is how the in-game DOF toggle functions. Apparently does not affect cutscenes.

It does the same thing in Ground Zeroes. Seems to be happening since switching to Windows 10 but I may be imagining things.

I updated the driver to whatever the current released version is but this beta may be worth checking out. Do you have a link to the beta driver or can I update it to a beta from the driver utility? Thanks for the tip.

Q6600 while not really comparable to new processors still a beast. I actually just upgraded to a 5930K from a Q6600.

The awful thing is it continues into the main game if your emblem uses any of those parts until you go back and remove them. There was a patch this morning but it didn't fix it >.<

I'll have to try this when I get home, but I've seen online that people are saying it's connected to the online aspect. Maybe try disconnecting from the servers when you go to edit and see if that helps things?

Yes, I've definitely experienced those sub 20fps dips. Call me extremely picky and immature, but not being able to achieve an absolutely locked 60fps is pretty annoying. Most gameplay sits anywhere between 56-60fps even at 1080p/max settings/hbao+ (dips while panning the camera, or streaming assets, which happens often), and that one
extraction bit at the end of the first act was just atrocious in terms of performance. Galloping through the fog with those weirdos jumping around and shooting at us was pretty choppy to say the least.

Currently been playing on two machines.

Home

GTX 970
i5
16gb DDR3 ram
1080p

Games is running flawlessly. I have noticed that screen resolutions below 1080p are displaying weird proportions on ky projector though. 720p, and the next several options are displaying horizontally squished, for example.

Work

2x GTX 980ti in SLI
i7 4790K unlocked quad core HT 4Ghz
32gb ram
4K resolution

Settings maxed - I was getting about 45fps during the intro.

Ambient occlusion and shadows turned to high, everything else maxed - Generally 60fps, but I've been getting frame drops in certain scenarios. In particular one chase scene caused drops as low as 35. Fairly solid otherwise. The game looks gorgeous in 4K.
