Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

We don't have a 360/720 grappler yet, right? I'm assuming R. Mika is a half-circle hybrid grappler, like Alex and Abel.

I can only assume one of the mystery characters left (or maybe even a newcomer) is a huge, 360 grappler. I'm thinking Rashid/Rachid. That sounds like a name a huge dude might have.
They've said they are only doing half circle command grabs.

I have to deal with that dumb looking wrestler Mika, you are going to let me have MY dumb looking wrestler damnit!

Oh I can definitely see them being in. But I dunno if it'll be in the first roster. Of course I would have said the same for Mika, so who knows.

Sakura and Karin are going to dress like schoolgirls, you guys.

Its happening.

I hope it's not quite as dull as that jacket, but I definitely really want her to ditch the school girl fit

That's the exact outfit she's going to wear as her default. She also grew out her hair a bit.

Don't even question it, in my mind its already confirmed

I feel like Sakura would actually wear something close to her schoolgirl uniform again, because she's a little weirdo. Karin would definitely wear something new though.

Now here's my question, what about Alex? He & Ryu didn't meet until the events of SF3. If he's gonna be in SFV, does that mean the game takes place after SFV or is Capcom making it to where Ryu & Alex never meet within the game's story?
Retcons. Retcons everywhere.

Am I crazy to believe that SF5 will "replace" SF3 in the storyline, the same way MK9 replaced 1-3? It could also make the SF3 cast's SF4 appearances "canon".
This is what I've been thinking, and I bet the bolded is how they're gonna do it, especially with Ono's comment. It won't be time travel/new timeline stuff (unless Psycho Power gets even nuttier than Alpha's Psycho Drive), but I bet it's gonna set SF4 straight and then creep into SF3 territory at some point, and maybe set up for DLC characters from 3S.

can someone give me a rundown on why people liked MK9 story mode?

never played, and a lifetime of SF games have taught me to treat arcade modes as junk (outside of that god-tier Alpha 3 World Tour mode... damn that was great)

^ It was a fully fleshed out 3D interactive movie with intersecting fights. Second only to BB style of Campaign

It's her gimmick.

She doesn't have a gimmick. Or rather, what may have been a gimmick at one point is no longer a barrier to her growth as a character. She's already long since grown out of that in the actual fiction.

Now that they are taking bigger risks, the games will follow

I'm honestly not sure about Paris. Maybe Urien could be shown at PlayStation Experience while Zen is at Paris.

Perhaps. I'm excited about upcoming announcements. I don't care who they are. At long they are going to bring something good to the game.

I wonder if Aluma is going to be one of secret character or one of first few DLC characters.

Capcom doesn't do unlockable characters anymore beyond DLC. As such, Akuma would likely be the first DLC character (& possibly an unplayable boss in the base game).

Alex's look is a bit boring tbh. Feels like they were trying to make it something simple but instantly recognizable, like Ryu's gi and headband, but didn't quite hit the mark.

I wouldn't know what to give a street fighting wrestler to wear either. Green overalls, combat boots, and a red bandanna is better than what I could have come up with.

I would be okay if they are going to reboot the timeline but I have a hutch they wouldn't.

They might fix the mistakes they made with SF4 and rewriting the timeline afterward.

Sakura will always be in her classic schoolgirl outfit.

why?

$$$$$$$$$

Hold dat on your chests because you know it to be true

I could see them doing something like including an alt outfit with the DLC purchase, so that one could get both a new and old look using Sakura as an example, while also incentivizing paid purchase over Fight Money exchange.

I really dont think roster selection and story mode need to be linked. You can have characters who arent in the roster to be in the story too.
You could be right. We shall see. The dangerous part about this is people will go "on disk DLC!!!" I know NRS put characters that are not part of initial roster. But NRS got the industry/consumer bias in their side. Capcom on the other hand may have another sfxtekken situation in their hands. But its all my opinion lol.

Here's one fan's guess at what Karin will look like in Street Fighter V. A friend of mine ended up making some tiny edits to it, but here it is.

That's straight up Lili's outfit. We can be more original than that.

I'm still expecting an outfit change, I don't see her having her school uniform.

That doesn't make much sense as a reason for Sakura to keep wearing her school outfit

SF characters basically dont age, except when Capcom explicitly says so and decides to come with an alternative design (SF0 for example).
That's why they removed birth year from official character profiles since SF4:
http://www.capcom.co.jp/sf4/sakura.html

She can be an eternal schoolgirl if Capcom want to.
That said, so far they showed they are ready to take some risks with SF5, so maybe they'll decide to age her this time.

They could be doing away with it entirely , we dont have many charge characters in the lineup too. Cant base stuff off that.
Nash and Bison aren't charge? I guess even if not, I figure Alex and Urien would be.

They've said they are only doing half circle command grabs.
Huh. That's interesting. I wonder if that means if they want to simplify command grabs or if they are planning to just drop those huge grapplers.

I don't think they have taken that many risks in terms of designs.

Ken legit just has his hair up and gi top around his waste. No one gives a fuck about Birdie. Nash is just frankenstein'd up. Vega just is wearing a shirt this time. Bison is wearing a coat. Ryu, Cammy, Chun and outside of the heart boobs..Mika..look rather the same. The updates here are florishes and I doubt they would really drastically change up characters that haven't shown up in a while (that people care about).

It may not be a school girl outfit..but it will look very similar.

the "risks" they are taking are in the gameplay department it seems. Birdie so far is the outlier and even then..he still is basically wearing the same outfit..he just got fat.

SF is all about the retcons. I'm a weird person who actually really likes the "story" of SF but I know that it's always changing so I won't throw a fit if SFV contradicts SF III.

Aside from everything else, I must say with the inclusion of R. Mika in SF5 and Poison finally getting a go around in SF4 - I'm mildly optimistic about any character making a return in the future. Like I would've thought Q would be such a far out chance of returning, but now I feel like 'why not'.

4 basically threw the entire canon out of the window so hard that I doubt 3 even exists as is in the timeline anymore

I expect a fast roll out of characters kinda like MKX. I'm sure they've got some being worked already that aren't going to be in the initial 16, and they'll be sure to keep it off-disc to avoid any backlash. I also think the small-ish cast is due to them planning on this.

Nash has no charge moves. Bison is still charge and they just changed one of his charge moves to QCF. I dont think 360 SPD is a necessity going by Capcoms decisions.

I think Akuma will be in game and Capcom will remain completely silent about him. Would be a nice little surprise on release day.

They already announced that all characters can be unlocked for free via in game currency. So i dont think people can start complaining like they did with SFxT

I don't remember Bison having a half circle move besides his Super, did they change anything between builds?

and now it kinda feels like 4 is also getting thrown into the bushes as SIN seems to have no presence lol

There's so much space between 3 and 4 that they can literally make up whatever they want as a justification. They've kept it so vague that it wouldn't be retcons but filling in holes.

And 4 isn't completely out of the waters. We don't even know the overall story for anyone sans some quotes here and there.

One thing I do like is that they are dredging up old plot points that weren't so big and putting them in the forefront. Like Karin funding Mika's career, that's probably the reason why she's continuing her butt smashing.

I'm sure I've asked before but, why? The only stories that are actually stories, did't really change anything, and didn't affect anyone else. Alex jobbed and wants to fight Ryu; Ken is a dad; Sean is sort of being trained; Ibuki and Elena went to school; Necro's still on the run with his girlfriend; Dudley got his dad's car back etc... Half of the characters might as well of not had endings.

Alex is being dumped due to the whole hulk hogan incident
Kappa

He's like 4 different wrestlers smashed together. Just give him one of the other's gimmick as an intro.

What about the Naruto storm games?

Inuhanyou I know you know what I'm talking about.

Those arent fighting games. 3D Action games more like it, but i would not consider them fighting games.

those are as much fighting games as Tekken Force is

Sakura is gonna come back as the best gym teacher ever. I can't wait to prove those nonbelievers wrong.
