I love how MGS4's fans only defense is always basically "bu-bu-but it's popular" rather than try to legit defend it.

I love it because I love it. There are some bad moments to be sure, but plenty of heights. It has my favorite parts in the series... as well as some of my least favorite parts. I don't really mind that many other MGS fans seem to dislike it, and I can see why they do, to an extent. It's my second fave, personally.

Question about using Quiet.

When I first got the ability to use her, the hint explained how I could designate different points for her to be at or whatever.. But then when I actually play as her, I can't really interact with her at all, that I can tell, other than telling her to kill someone - Which always seems to alert the base, even if the person is isolated when she caps them. What am I missing?

I haven't used her much but i think your bond with her isn't high enough, use her more often.

Make sure to check your tags people before hitting submit. Also, you really should give people some indication how far into the story you are. That was a fucking fail.

Dammit, that was an unexpected spoiler.

I'm really sorry about that. I am on mobile and borked it. Corrected it as fast as I could.

Also, on top of Keifer, I just don't like Troy Baker as Ocelot. Maybe it's the new face combined with his voice. He's not necessarily doing a bad job, but he just adds to everything about Ocelot not feeling right in this game.

So far honestly, this is probably my least favorite Metal Gear Solid of all when it comes to voice direction actually. I am very early on though still.

What the hell is with Japan and dog paw pads? I've seen like 20 anime and games that go wild over that shit. Couple interviews too.

Meanwhile, why can I find no one on my base? Where you at Miller?!

Also another reason I wish there was food to eat: feeding your horse and your dog. The animals in this game are really cool and I wish I could do more stuff with them. Shadow of the Colossus may have been sparse in its open world, but you could at least do some cool stuff with Agro.

Loving this game so far...

Admittedly this is my 1st MGS game, but in general love stealth based games. No idea why ive not tried any others in the series before this, oh well :)

How are you locked out of non lethal gadgets? I started with an assault rifle. You can also take out guards and pick up their weapons. All of them are lethal, you even get a non tranq handgun really early on.

What guards carry non lethal tranq round sniper rifles?

And yes, you have a tranq pistol, but because it's a short range means of subduing the enemy, you end up having to play the same over and over. Getting close up and personal. I've done that about 50 times now in 50 bases that all look the same. The tranq sniper and mines shouldnt be locked 15 hours into the game.

You can fast forward time with the Phantom Cigar.

what...

WHAT

This FOB shit can suck my ass. I just lost 15 people, fuck this. Only playing offline now.

Be sure to designate (lock) your VIP troops to ensure they're never killed. This is especially important for units with unique skills that are hard to replace, or particularly skilled units.

Is it even worth it to extract soldiers with the Boaster skill?
If I understand the skill right, they're literally decoys that seem more valuable than they are. Recruiting is tough.

Either that or it means they're always max value in whatever field they're deployed in. That would be a little weird, though, and make them among the most valuable units in the game.

I'm actually quite disappointed. I remember that I was mighty impresse with Baker as Ocelot during the Afghanistan trailer, when he shouts "Now go, let the legend come back to life!". During this scene, Baker was CLEARLY imitating Pat Zimmerman's Ocelot accent.

But throughout the game this is not consistent. Not only does Ocelot NOT look like Ocelot, he also doesn't sound like him.....

Very likely, they are referring to the Act 4 briefing. The briefings are "prologue" to each act, I... guess.

Ah, you mean the cheesy "it even rained the day I was born"? Yeah, that was hilarious, but that would be like saying: "How can MGS2 be good with all those 'do you remember what day tomorrow is'' shit from Rose....

I was wondering that too. A guy from the preview event said Miller and Ocelot will walk with you on mother base and give you tips what to build next etc.

Ocelot feels like a completely different character here. He's not flamboyant or snarky or anything. He's just a mouthpiece for mission information. It's disappointing, because Ocelot is my favorite MGS character.

Granted, I'm not very far...so maybe that changes.

I've played this game for less than four hours and I'm already in love. If this keeps up, it could outrank Snake Eater as my favorite MGS.

Thanks Kojipro and Kojima-san.

This game being so perfect is making me even sadder about the Kojima/Konami split. There's something bittersweet about enjoying something so much whilst knowing you'll never get to do it again.

Ocelot spends a lot of time in tapes sounding like Joel.

Welp, it seems like I need to start being more picky with my personnel extractions.

My mother base is full up with 1 platform each of Command, R&D, Base Dev, and Support. Next set costs 4k each of the processed resources and building the platform only gets you room for 10 more staff.

I'm stuck on something after mission 20:
The Man on Fire.
Any tips?
I tried c4'ing the water towers but only one got him.
Does anyone remember Kaz saying something about the relationship between
Zero and Skullface
? I can't remember what was said, something along the lines of
Skullface has gone rogue as Zero has gone into hiding.
Anyone have a clearer idea.

Anyone else find it incredibly impressive that *every* *single* light in this game is shootable, or you can turn it off via some other means.

This game is fantastic.

So guys is it best to lvl up the base development platform to 4/4 first or just get the r&d to 3/4? My Command Platform is already at 4/4 so. The rest is all at 2/4 except support which is also at 3.

This game is fantastic.

Shooting out lights is the only reason I keep my silenced rifle around.

Sub-mission help

Episode 4: C2W- "Secured the rough diamonds hidden near the Eastern Communications Post"

how do you do this?

Around outposts there are individual flood lights. Can we not turn these off apart from shooting out the bulbs or blowing the whole unit up?

The Ocelot in mission 2 seems really rushed, he just stands looking straight ahead no matter where Sn4ke is. (swype did that typo lol)

Just finished chaper 1...that was amazing. All in all though this is a weird one. It`s an amazing game that will likely and up as my least favorite MGS by far. It's just not what I want of this series. For the grand finale I would have wished for something as focused and dense as MGS 1-3, this is the opposite. The pacing is not there at all. The first three games are almost endless replayable for me, this I will not touch for a very long time after finfishing it. A shame.

And after +20h the two main areas are getting old fast. I really hope there is more.

open the Idroid, go to map, scroll down on the d-pad
select scout to have quiet run around an area and mark all humans she sees, if you don't give her another command, she'll choose an attacking a position to stay at and await your order.
alternatively select an attacking position and she will go there and wait orders.

at first she will start firing if the enemy sees you outside of reflex mode, later on you can tell her not to do this.

A fire/take aim command will only work, if quiets green laser site is on he enemy.

she can also shoot any type of grenade mid air later on!

Also the grey diamonds dog symbol is where quiet is heading to, whilst the green is where she is.

also you can change her sniper on the fly, so you can use her to take down choppers, silent kill soilders and silently make soilders sleep.

yeah quiets a badass, there's so much you can do with her, this is just for starters

That's... the epilogue of MGS4. Mislabeled as heck.

Anyway, re: Troy Baker's Ocelot: He did sound different in early trailers. I seem to recall Baker mentioning during his YongYea interview that Kojima asked him to tweak his voice to sound more like Joel, or something. I remember thinking, "oh no..."

Aw, that's sad. :(

That's an epilogue, though.... And that scene in particular was awesome. Best send off Raiden could ever get.

Until Rising came along and sent him back to the battlefield because fuck everything.

One can't ignore the rules of nature.

Rising is such a good game. Hopefully MGS5 can match it overall--that'd be a real treat.

So you have to actually start the mission and finish it to be able to do all the optional objectives right? That's kind of annoying if that's how it actually works but I haven't been able to get a definitive answer on this.
