Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

This might be crazy thinking... Do you guys think they might go console SFIV route with unlockable characters...

ie. Unlock bosses by beating the game with X amounts of perfects or something along those lines or through fight money. If this too hard, then users could pay for them via DLC. These could all be on the Disc...

Then additional characters could be legit DLC characters.

So if we assume "classic characters" means SFII characters only, then that still means there are no SFIV characters in the starting roster. "Not seen in awhile" would pertain to either SFIII or Alpha characters.

I'm still betting on the Siliconera rumors being true.

Lol, I'm pretty sure between now and March they'll talk more about actual features in the game.

Even without any details whatsoever, the interest for the game has been pretty amazing. Just on the beta hype alone, it was the #1 selling game on Amazon for a while. Then the first beta fiasco happened...and, when the beta reopened again last week, SF5 jumped back into the top 100. Collectors edition is currently #21 on Amazon...7 months before release.

Exactly, just look at how much hype a single character reveal for the game generates around the internet. Heck, Ryu's alt costume was basically plastered everywhere on major websites when it was announced. They're handling the build up to release rather well considering they really haven't announced anything outside of stages and characters. So they have plenty of content to talk about as the games release approaches.

I still hope that Urien will be the last "New" returning character not karin.
Characters will be grouped based on their allegiance. And you can play a Campaign mode for each group.

Ryu,Ken.Chun,Cammy - WW/ The good guys
You will have related characters like Guile..etc in the story mode.

Bison,Vega,?,? - Shadaloo

Urien,Nash,Necalli,Rachid? - Illuminati

Mika,Birdie,Laura?,Zen? - Idk ? Just random comic relief lmao?
Story will have other character not really related to main plot Blanka,Gief..etc

That actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks for posting it, Neoxon.

Ever since Vega I've just kinda half given up hope for SF3 characters. A part of me still hopes Silconera are correct but the video is right in the sense that Capcom will just throw whoever the fuck in so that people get thrown off (Vega is the best example of this). I kinda hate that to be honest. I'd rather they keep with their intended 16 and just try harder to prevent leaks. Whoever the 16 are is ultimately irrelevant, as I'm sure the DLC will have everyone's favourites. I just wish Capcom would stop relying on the SF2 characters so much. It's actually embarrassing now that they're too piss-scared to step out the World Warrior box. I would love Alex to be there day one but, as always, I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

If the rumor turns out to be false, of the three (Karin, Urien, Alex) Urien by far seems like the most likely to be the 4th character.

Def wouldn't consider Urien and Alex classic characters.

The green doesn't mean numbered because some Alpha characters I'd consider to be classic (dan and sakura). Though I guess the blue isn't necessarily Alpha although I do think the last is Karin

That speculation video sounds like completely baseless and no more credible than any guesses here. I think if they're wanting people to buy the initial disc, they're going to plan that roster carefully, not just swap them around at the tail end of development to throw off guesses and rumors.

I do believe they have a bunch of characters being worked on, but that number of 32 is just a completely random guess.

I hate that I finally caved and have that video a hit.

For all their talk at E3 about wanting the storyline in SFV to feel more complete and cohesive than games of the past, and pointing out the significance of the initial 16 in particular, I can't help but believe that Karin is in the core roster and the fourth "hasn't been back in a while" character. Mika's in, and as it stands right now she has no real tie to anything or anyone else that we currently know about. Karin's family, on the other hand, has been shown to run against Shadaloo at points during the Alpha series, so Karin fronting Mika into whichever tournament this is supposed to be would give Mika a more sensible reason to be here. Plus, from a gameplay standpoint, we're still lacking a proper rekka character, and Karin's counters and other such moves feel like they'd fit right in with SFV's new mechanics.

On the other hand...I also feel way less optimistic about any SF3 characters returning, at least in the initial roster, given how mum they've been about when V takes place, and lumping someone like Urien in with the group of "classic" characters just doesn't feel right to me. There'll still be some additional Illuminati presence in the game, but I'm guessing that will come from one of the completely new characters. Zen, perhaps? Really the only character I could see making it into that spot that isn't part of the SFII generation would be Juri. Maybe Abel, but as a stretch. The likes of Guile, Dhalsim, Sagat, or Akuma seem far more likely.

Exactly how I'm feeling. Though I'd consider Sakura or Dan a "classic" Street fighter.

I feel like Guile (for story reasons regarding Nash), Juri, and Karin will be the remaining characters, with Urien or Gill serving as the initially non-playable final boss. Guile will have a dramatically different look and move set.

Since the story probably takes place before III, Capcom might not want to bring Alex back yet since his impetus for becoming a "Street Fighter" hasn't happened yet. I hope I'm wrong.

IV -> V (collapse of Shadaloo, rise of Illuminati) -> III

maybe there will be a wave of 3s characters that comes along with a 'Season 2' story expansion....sheeeeiittt

Well if it looks like Juri isn't going to be in the initial line up I'm really looking forward to seeing the new characters released. Looks like I need to pick a new main until she hits DLC.

I mean, maybe the "Classic Characters" aren't just from SFII? I mean, it's only been 7 years since we've seen Alex, and at this point, Juri's a character I'd "expect to see in Street Fighter."

Unfortunately, it's looking likely that we're just getting Karin, 3 newcomers, and 3 SFII repeats... This sucks, honestly. I was looking forward to Urien and Alex's returns, and I thought Juri was a lock (I'd argue that she's the most popular character since Cammy! Or at least, Sakura).

I don't want to sound disappointed (And I know I shouldn't be surprised), but I can't deny that I'll be underwhelmed if the 3 remaining non-Alpha veterans are all from SFII. I mean, I like those characters, but I sold myself on us getting New Generation characters over some more World Warriors. The WW's are starting to feel a bit stale, and I'm missing the NG cast (Even Dudley and Elena, the two we've seen multiple times since; they may not have had a decade-long break, but they're 2 of my favorites). Hopefully the DLC won't be expensive, and won't disappoint; if the WW's are out of the way at launch, then who'll know what characters'll be DLC!

I hope Balrogs in. I think he'd be super interesting in the SF5 system. Think of the way Ryu's normals feel when you connect now imagine Balrogs.

Make his V-Trigger allow him to cancel his normals in to any other normal similar to Juri's Feng Shui engine so he can do cool boxing combinations.

Vskill could be a SF2 style headbutt command grab that does more stun than damage similar to dirt bull.

The Russian skies must be protected guys.

I'd be slightly disappointed but understanding if they held the SF3 characters off until season 2 for plot reasons. As long as they put in Remy's pops and Tom. And chill w/ the World Warrior overload. As awesome as the gameplay feels in the SFV beta, the characters are bleh.

"Characters you'd expect in a Street Fighter game" is such a vague term, I'm not really buying that for now

TGS next week should answer all questions

I'd definitely be here for Tom.

This also reminds me that Alex and Urien actually have a connection based on Tom that hasn't been explained yet, which makes them perfect to be the initial SFIII reps in V.

the most tantalizing thing to me in terms of long term DLC is the Final Fight placeholder poster

I'll gladly take any and all of them

Mika is too random to get right. I believe alex, urien, and Karin are the latest of the returning initial roster.
Mika got high in the fan polls, and Ono has talked about how much he loves and wants her in on several occasions. I don't think she's too random to get right.

After Vega, I don't put faith in anything. :-/

Only reason I don't want Siliconera to be right is because Juri > Karin.

Well, I like what BornFree said in his video about thinking about it in terms of like, 32 characters. Juri feels like sure bet for near term DLC. 16 is an important number, but Capcom is obviously working on a far larger roster as they build the game.

I'm pretty confident Juri is making the initial roster. SFIV will get a rep in SFV.
The only way Juri's getting in is if Siliconera is wrong. And given their track record, the odds are in Siliconera's favor. More so since we have that allusion towards an Illuminati rep (unless one of the newbies is with the Illuminati).

Along with the 3s guys I realm hope to see Sim. And i never play him, but there's always some patient players who main him and its some of my best matches. He is very unique in SF and imo should be in just about every game.

Also hope Akuma is an unplayable hidden boss, return of character introductions, VF5 rank system and a VF or SFA3 Quest mode.

It does feel really weird to consider the possibility of no SF4-introduced characters showing up in this game, given what SF4 did to revive the franchise...but at the same time it feels like a lot of SF4's success was attributed more in the way it brought back the World Warriors rather than people being super-excited about the new characters. Juri feels like the only one that's both popular and story-relevant enough to consider. SFII (or maybe more accurately SSFII if we want to include Cammy in this) still seems to be the top dog in terms of character recognition and popularity.

Maybe the better question for now is, what other fighting game mechanics could be introduced with a new character that would make them unique from the current cast? There's still no rekka character, no projectile-focused zoner...no puppet-user, I guess? They really seem to want a lot of distinct play diversity right off the bat.

Mika is too random to get right. I believe alex, urien, and Karin are the latest of the returning initial roster.

Not really. Again, who's left in the street fighter stable after SFIV? not many

Karin, Mika, Birdie, Sodom and the dolls are the only characters from Alpha who were left out of SFIV. Decapre is a doll, Karin has copyright issues, so aside from Sodom, Mika is the only standing character left really

Didn't Alex appear in Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom? That would exclude him from the "characters we haven't seen in a while" category. I still think the Siliconera leak is legit.

Why isn't she made for the new system?
Huh? Think you misread something

Also, if you read the gamespot blurb correctly, it basically confirms that Guile and Sagat will be returning, along with presumably with Mika as well. The "didn't see coming" part is actually a reference to Street Fighter: The Movie, where Sagat is made fun of by Bison for not realizing that Guile is still alive. These two characters, thought to be gone, have clearly tricked us and will be on the initial roster.
