Forza Motorsport 6 has "wet weather, 3D puddles and night races" + more

Just finished playing the demo

MIND. BLOWN.

I am normally a "Gran Turismo guy" but I can already tell this is gonna be my favorite Forza and perhaps one of the all time great drivers. OMG,The sense of speed at Indy totally reminds me of that old Sega Model 2 Indy game, which,to this day gave me the best "super fast" feeling ever. This matches that. Best of all was the final wet track at Sebring. Unreal communication via gameplay what the traction, or lack thereof, was doing at the tires. 3D puddles indeed.

Anyone on the fence about F6 must play this demo. I am now day one for Forza 6. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Holy shit.

Speaking of the Ford hot lap leaderboards, how do people run w/o TCS (in a RWD w/ 600 hp) and achieve better lap times than those using it? I consider myself a pretty good driver, but how are these guys accelerating out of turns in 2nd/3rd w/o having to baby the throttle until traction is attained, thus losing valuable seconds? I'm pretty much sliding around the entire track w/o TCS, albeit very much in control, but still.

I usually run TCS on high power RWD cars (>500hp), but one method that I do use when not running TCS is running a higher gear. For example, if you are in a tight turn which you would run 2nd gear, but start spinning out/sliding due to traction issues on exit, try taking it in third gear. The result is less torque applied to the wheels and better traction. It may feel slow as you can bog down a bit in the higher gear, but you will be faster in most cases. This of course requires you to run manual transmission.

never raced with a wheel before....

as a noob would I be missing out terribly grabbing a 458 Spider wheel $100 with no feedback or not do it unless I'm willing to go for a mad catz FF wheel $300?

i love the vibration on my controller so not sure I would appreciate no rumble or ff from 458 but don't know if I'll even use it that much or enjoy it yet.

opinions please?
Consider me a noob on this topic too but here's my take on it.

I just got a Thrustmaster TX. Now that I'm really getting used to it I'd say without force feedback there'd be little point to it. Being able to feel the weight transfer, surface variations (rumble strips, grass, road, etc), and when I'm about to lose grip and such is making it so much easier to control my cars on top of simply adding to the immersion.

Probably the only substantial thing a wheel adds on its own without FFB is smoothness in your steering. The real game changer is the feedback.

Is visible tyre flexing still in forza motorsport 6? I found it hard to spot compared to how easy it is to see in forza 3 and 4.

I think my rear tire MAY show some in this shot.

screenshot-original62rbp9i.png

On mobile though, hard to tell.

Rear was trying to slide out to my left coming out of a curve.

This my favourite shot I've seen from the game so far.

Thanks :)

Liked that one too.

Edit* Want to say I feel like an idiot. I did the rivals stuff from a dead stop, one lap. Figured that was all the demo had.

LOL, palm meet face.

the sound effect of going over the curb on the right turn after the overhead multi colour flags is awful, it sound like a window being smashed. the guiding line actually tells you to go over the curb yet im assuming the car is being destroyed underneath. very annoying!

Played through the demo last night with my TX... I liked what I saw.

Just waiting on my pCARS payout the pre-order the game (oh the irony lol).

Also I don't know if I was just super lucky or if it's set that way in the demo but I won the Veyron on my first wheel spin? lol

Had the same debate with myself last year when I picked up a TX wheel for FH2. I had never actually used a FFB wheel before other than a short stink at an arcade at the movies many years back. So I didn't really know what to expect or what I would be missing out on had I gone for the 458 wheel.

Watched many youtube videos and read reviews of people using FFB wheels and decided it was worth the expense. Without a doubt I made the right choice. What actually makes the experience so cool is the variations in vibration and force feedback that combine together simulate so many driving conditions. It simulates the rough rocks, hill, and jumps of FH2 just as well as the tire squeals and wet conditions of Forza6. Best game peripheral decision. ever.

That's great to see from the AI. Very believable, very humanlike. Very encouraging. Any idea what setting the AI was on?

I saw the AI screw up like this on the rain levels even when I increased the difficulty to "above average", so it looks like even at higher levels it's possible :-)

Anyone else think that the Sebring wet track in the demo environment lighting is too bright considering its raining...feel it should be more 'dull'?

I was not sure if this was a glitch until now but it is, when you use the xbox one local streaming to windows 10 and try to play forza 6 you get no control for the main menu, you can press start but the menu itself is dead, no responce.

However the xbox one dashboard and home button works fine, so it's a demo issue.

I've had that with other games so I don't think it's specific to Forza 6.

First time I have seen it myself but I have only tried streaming with a handful of games, mostly revelations 2.

The interesting thing is that my controller is still synced to my console directly, i'm only streaming because I am watching stuff on the tv :P

Yup, I love that feature. There is JUST enough lag to make racing games a bit difficult, but it has been great for playing most other games.

yeah its great, my windows tablet however (£150 budget model) has a windows 10 driver bug with video playback so until it's fixed I can't stream to the tablet without huge frame drops.

For a new page

Alright, I still have our ForzaGAF list from before so I just removed everyone to start fresh. Quote this post if you want to add yourself to the list.

added myself, looking forward to playing with you all :)
Shame that I missed the [GAF] experience on FH2, just got the game and loving it.

Happy about friend requests: OnkelZee

Don't feel too bad, we didn't do a whole lot with FH2. Most of our ForzaGAF stuff is with the mainline Forza games. Easier to set up races/leagues and shit that way.

Speaking of, we still want to do Sundays at 2pm EST for the ForzaGAF races? And Crude, you want to start it out with your Trans Am series maybe?

I am playing through the demo now, do you get a reward or anything for playing through or wining all the races when you get Forza 6 (I have the Ultimate Editor already ordered).

Can someone explain to me why Project Cars is so hated? I just got done with the Forza 6 demo with assists off and it was still too easy.

Project Cars forced you to be more ginger with the gas and had a ton of control options. Project cars feels more sim compared to Forza to me.

You get the new Ford GT in Forza 6 for completing the demo, but that seems to be about it.

The problem with PCars is that it was not made for controllers at all. The stock controller settings are beyond awful and even with a lot of tweaking they don't get any better. The physics in the game are good, the audio is great and it looks fantastic. But trying to play it with a controller on the XB1 is absolutely awful. I have been playing racing games with a controller since the first Gran Turismo and I have NEVER felt such awful controls.

Huh...

My brother and I tweaked it and we do well. It's a thrill. I do agree the default controls are unwieldy.

I knew this game was going to be behind the curve in the graphics dept. With PCars and DriveClub, I don't understand how Turn 10 thinks this will fly.

I played the demo, and while its serviceable, I wanted more in the graphics dept.

I have tried every single setting I could find online and it was still overly twitchy and just awful. I want to love the game, I still own it, but every setting I have tried was just awful. I know the games physics are great, I just don't understand how they could fuck up the controller settings so much. Just look at Forza or GT to see how you can have great controller settings out of the box, I just don't get why PCars was so bad.

Of course, has there been any patches or anything that have helped that since it came out? I honestly haven't even put it in my XB1 since the week it came out.

Apparently I must be blind or easy to please or something because this game looks fantastic. Seriously, how is this game considered "behind the curve?" Because I think all those games look impressive as shit, even Forza 6. I guess I just don't quite "get" how it looks bad. It looks fuckin great to me.

the simple answer is 60 fps

I find it more embarrassing to be sub 60fps as a sim (PCars).

Comparing it to Driveclub is downright ignorant. They're two very different things.

Between that, and the Forza Rewards and the VIP rewards and all the other shit, I am going to have like 20 cars ready from day one. lol
20?

Heck, how many times does 3k-4k go into 5 million.

I'll have the "own 300 cars" on launch day X-D

The first console I bought with my own money was the Dreamcast. I was 17 going on 18 and I saved from my McDonald's checks to make the purchase.

I miss PGR too, haha.

Sorry, people who play Forza don't play the game solely for its graphics.

I don't understand why people bring comparisons into threads like this. It is as if they want the thread to go off topic.

Graphics are certainly a subjective thing, but I often wonder if I'm playing the same game as others. I found the graphics in the demo to be fantastic. In my opinion, given the smooth frame rate, resolution, texture details, car/track models, effects used to provide sense of speed, I actually prefer the graphics on FM6 over the games you mentioned here. Sure we can nitpick the fact that not all people in the crowd are 3D, AF filtering and AA could be higher, etc. There are always things that can be improved upon. However, these are things that I frankly don't notice while playing.

I think the important thing to take away from all this pointless graphical comparison is that there are two major options. You can have either 30FPS and have ridiculously amazing graphics, or you can have 60FPS and have just amazing graphics.

Personally, I know which one I want for my simulation racing game...

In reality Forza 6 (and 5 for that matter) are impressive for what they're doing at a rock solid 60 on console.

I don't know which track people saw it on, but I nearly jumped up and wrecked on one rival challenge.

The exact moment I crested a hill a backwards driving ghost went straight through my cockpit.

Scary stuff.

I had the same thing. It was on Lime Rock. I thought something was odd since it said my target time was 7 mins, so I figured something was off somewhere and sure enough after cresting the small hill the ghost car came towards me.

And that's not hyperbole. It's quite unbelievable how anyone at SMS ever thought the default pCARS pad settings were ready for launch. When one of my FFB wheels developed a shifting fault I switched to the pad for lols and it was pretty much unplayable. The bounce rate at launch must have been phenomenal as Joe Punter wondered what the fuck he had bought and quickly returned the game for a refund. I've heard it's possible to dial decent settings in (and the tuning variables are nicely comprehensive), but your average gamer might not have the first clue where to begin. All SMS ever had to do was emulate the feel of Forza's pad controls. They are nigh-on perfect.
