It seems i'm one of the few to use a sniper with lethal bullets to bring Quiet down.
Really fun fight. Had to do a lot of crawling and rolling to be able to outmaneuver her.

I did the same. It was pretty awesome. Started around noon and ended at dusk with a sand storm in between

I'm considering getting this game against every instinct in my body telling me otherwise. Would you guys say this game made some improvements over what was given to us in Ground Zeroes?

The reason I ask is because I absolutely HATED GZ, and this is coming from someone that's loved the Solid series since the first game. The AI spots you way too easily and from distances that doesn't even make sense (yet they miss unconscious bodies laying a few feet in front of them sometimes), the aiming and shooting felt extremely off (somehow missing headshots 2 ft. away from guys with my crosshair right on their head, and it just didn't feel like the Metal Gear I've grown to love at all. I don't think a demo (let's not kid ourself, that's what GZ basically is) gave me such a negative reaction for a game that I was really looking forward to before. I basically swore off the game.

Now with it out, I'm wondering if maybe Kojima and co. managed to fix the things I hated about GZ with the PP. I went back to GZ just to see if maybe I was overreacting and I think I hate it even more now than I did then. Is there any point for me to buy this or is Phantom Pain an infinite improvement?

After mission 30 spoilers -

got credits and was like "huh lots left open there, guess I need to play more side stuff"

Chapter 2... WHAT

Interesting Mother Base conversation I overheard after Episode 32, story spoilers:
Two soldiers talking about how Miller has gone off the rails - "kooky" I think they called him - because he had all this rage and a need for revenge and no-one to take it out on. It's only after this I noticed that when I fultoned vehicles, Miller would say, "haha, Reds, it's ours now!"

I had to dismiss an A+ Medical guy who looked like Donnie Wahlberg for being a persistent troublemaker.

Had you try just adding diplomat soldiers (lessens troubles in unit) to the medical strut?

Real quick, I'm on mission 31
Just beat Sahalanthopus, and it looks to be giving me an option to kill Skull face. Is this optional, and if so, shoould I kill him or keep him alive?

Another question that has been bothering me, about Quiet.
If you choose to kill her in mission 11, can you go back later and not kill her to get her as a buddy?

I just came back from vacation and had my steelbook copy waiting for me <3
not reading this thread yet but it would be nice to know if I'm set to go.

- finished all GZ missions on normal, rescued all prisoners and the targets, got all tapes besides the ZoE music one.
- updated GZ and uploaded the savefile with the new option
- installed MGSV and downloaded the day one patch.
- redeemed the day one edition code (the second one for MGO work doesn't work yet?!)

Anything else I need to know before starting the game?

Sounds like a pass for you.

You're ready and no, have fun!

Oh yeah, don't expect the servers to be up and running 100%.

I love TPP but honestly, I'm afraid you wouldn't like it either if you hated GZ. It's essentially the same but in larger scale.

The aim and hit detection are fine in GZ and PP, and the capacity for spotting you is nothing if not more realistic than before. It's still generous compared to real life.

So I guess you won't like it, unless you make yourself acclimate to it.

I think with any game no one can say "You will love it" or "You will hate it" but I can tell you from my experience the following things.

1. i've never felt like I was cheated by the AI getting seen.
2. When firing from the hip I feel like the game is pretty accurate as to what that would be like, but when Aiming down the sights of my weapon I've never felt like I should have hit but didn't (even some crazy 60+m long shots with the tranq pistol)
3. The sneaking is fantastic, if you are crawling and the enemy might have spotted you stopping and hiding in the weeds works very well unless they are right up on top of you (in which case you get a chance to take them out via a quick precise headshot)

I feel like GZ was a beta (not a demo but a full blown beta) and TPP is the final product where they polished everything.

PS4 version, the online stuff is completely borked right? Completely slows down iDroid use and the servers never seem to actually work. I have no idea if I should access to FOB stuff yet or not.

There are 3 four installations if you go digital. The first two before you start, the third after the prologue, the fourth after your second mission, whatever that is.

Can I rant for a minute?

WHAT IN THE FUCK IS UP WITH FOUR INSTALLS OF A DIGITAL GAME? I'm so pissed right now it's not even funny. I want to wreck shit and but can't because the damn game keeps fucking installing. My PS4's spent damn near 12 hours downloading this 19 hours downloading this game off and on.

Can we repaint our base at some point?

Can someone help me name my base?

Enemy search behavior seems pretty bugged. I've triggered warnings before that lead to the enemy searching my last location, they search for 5 or 10 minutes, CP calls off the search but tells the enemy to remain alert, which triggers another goddamn sweep that seems to go on in perpetuity.

I've seen enemies go from 100 meters away to magically end up searching mere inches away. It's annoying.

Is that a PS4 thing? Definitely didn't anymore than 1 install on XB1.

You can repaint the base from the ACC right from the start I think.

Are main missions the only thing that raises buddy affinity?

Also Im constantly having fighting breaking out among staff (seems mostly with the medical staff) and some people get sent to sickbay.

It depends. You really have to just get used to it because everything gameplay wise is on the money. I had a ton of trouble with guys spotting me at first but eventually you figure out your range, and even if someone sees you it doesn't mean much because they only THINK they saw something, so they come to investigate, and if you move from that area then you're free and clear. Also, going prone is king. You can almost go right by an enemy a foot from you if you are prone and in the right camo. Also remember you had VERY limited tools in GZ, and in TPP you have everything at your disposal. I hardly ever get seen now and I can clear out a base in a few minutes of work and collect materials, blueprints without issue.

As for aiming, I see nothing wrong with it. Its much more accurate to use scope aiming and the color of the crosshair also determines the optimal range of the gun you are using, so maybe you weren't in range when you were missing? Its tough to say but overall I think the game is much better because you have so many tools to use and an open battlefield to enter any which way you want.

When you set off an alert it puts all the bases at a higher state of alert for the remainder of the mission, if comms are up. I'm not sure but I think they've only gone back to normal if I use the cigar.

Maybe you are just seeing them more alert rather than conducting a search?

The whole time I'm watching jurassic world I'm thinking that I need some dinosaur dlc for this game where I have to hunt gigantic dinosaurs in Afghanistan... please sell my soul to konami overlords

Any way to refuse rewards? My mission list got filled up with D and E recruitments that I don't want, yet I needed to do them to get a chance at more resource missions. I know you can select what rewards to accept, but I'd like to be able to use accept all rewards again...

So hands down the worst thing about this game is Quiet's humming. God dammit SHUT UP. SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP.
Why did someone think it'd be a good idea to have her constantly humming all the time when you have her as your buddy?
I like her humming. And the song that she's humming.
