Playing through GZ first.

Any tips on what I should be doing? I know there is tons of stuff to do around the map but I've just headed straight for Chico and taken care of that.

Kinda messing up though, getting seen, leaving bodies, etc.

It can be shitty but I'll tell you that it forced me to play a lot differently than I've played other stealth games. I almost never reload a checkpoint now. Makes for some ridiculously tense moments. Flares and mortars, omg.

And I *love* the fact that going lethal only results in a minor point reduction. The Fulton system is enough to ensure that players will attempt to be stealthy.

Seriously, MGS5 is head and shoulders above the rest of the series when it comes to the actual game. Other entries have toyed with a sandbox/simulation but various technical issues prevented them from living up to their promise. MGS5 is a goddamned revelation.

What do you mean

So doing FOB missions as an attacker is dreadful and the only part of the game that is not amazing. Don't feel like you're missing out if you can't connect.

D Dog gets in the way sometimes. Just shot him in the head.
now's as good a time as any for me to post this

d-dog you're adorable and i love you but i'm trying to scout out this area for infiltration YOU AREN'T HELPING

Mission 23-on character spoilers:

Someone spoil
Eli's role
for me?
Liquid is by far my favorite character in the series and I was so hyped to see him in this game, but he hasn't talked in cutscenes so far and I'm afraid it's going to be more of a cameo, without even a confirmation of his true identity.
Spoilers, that involve incredibly vague mention of events to Episode 31.
Eli plays a larger role in events to come and yes, he speaks.

On the topic of buddies, D-Horse became dead to me as soon as extracting vehicles and D-Walker became a thing.

That's the only boss I've faced, too,
and I honestly found it pretty disappointing. Great looking boss arena, and when I got there I was so excited for another hour-long redux of The End's sniper duel, but Quiet doesn't really see you that well and the way her sniper scope glints gives her position away so easily. I think it took like seven minutes and five headshots and it was all over; I never even got spotted, let alone actually shot at.

Different stroke
s.i was on edge of my seat the whole time. Got hit like 6 times and I just loved the experience all around. Not quite the end, but my first experience was just as memorable. Are there other fights in this game this good? Based on gaf impressions I'm guessing not.

she was either fucking me over on purpose or she just got crazy under alert

I know I can tell her to cease fire but I never told her to start to begin with

dunno. DD is still the best.

Is there ever any head gear? I see the slot but I haven't gotten anything there. I know my guys can wear balaclavas but what about Boss?

very early story mission/story spoilers

HOLY FUCK the mission where you have to save Huey Christ almighty if that doesnt cry metal gear my god did anyone do that mission during the day it would almost seem impossible, kept using my phantom cigar to make it night time, also running away with Huey from the metal gear dear god almighty..

What do you mean

Lots of stealth games really punish you for going lethal. In MGS5, it's a minor point reduction. Not enough to drop you out of the running for an S rank.

..so why would anyone bother with non-lethal methods? Gotta go non-lethal for the SUPER-IMPORTANT Fulton/Mother Base stuff. It's such a great incentive.

wow yeah fuck Quiet

she just randomly killed a dude I had tagged with A+ R&D

also killed a guy as I was interrogating him

DD dispatched.

You can get a tranq sniper rifle for her once you've built up her bond enough. Near max bond, you can get one with a suppressor.

Here is how I used and then use quiet:

1) Before getting the tranq gun, I would only order her to do the following:
iDroid > Mission > Buddy Support > Quiet (Scout)
Then not order her to do anything else.

2) Then later on once I got the tranq gun, I would still mainly do the same as above, but if there is only a couple guys left, I'll order to attack then so the "We're being attacked by a sniper" panic isn't that bad.

3) Then once you get the tranq gun with suppressor, she is godly. Most of the time I just order to keep firing on a base (L1 > Fire Tranq Gun) and she takes everyone out silently. She only has issue with people with helmets as she only head shots. She doesn't know to shoot them in the arm / legs / etc. So I just scope out with my snipe rifle, take those guys out first and have her back me up.

Now my favourite companion though is DD due to the Get It command where he fultons people for me (requires special armour). Saves me so much time.

Were you in alert mode by any chance? She usually goes cray-cray when you're spotted.

Aw yiss, managed to S rank mission 16.

Fultoned the truck, and then blew up those skull motherfuckers with my rocket launcher
.

I did it on my first try, too!

It took me so many tries. No, Phantom Pain, I don't want to wear the damn chicken hat.
.
I can't Fulton vehicles yet, but I did try to RPG the skulls, without any luck. How much do they take?

Finally bought the game and got 13 hours in. So far, this game is the shit! It's like they tuned up Peace Walker's gameplay to a tee, and the new additions like the "open world" environment are welcome. Gameplay wise, this is Kojima's best work.

So once you take her in two or three missions you level up her bond enough to purchase the tranq sniper which has made her my most used buddy in The game.

Great. Now if she'd just leave the brig. I've had her since mission 9 and I'm about to start 13 and she's still in there.

I'm also disappointed that I filled my pants with 8 Hedgehogs but only one shows up at the zoo. WTF. I want my damn Hedgehogs.

Can you even do that mission without being able to fulton vehicles? There's 2 missions before it where you can get a guy with Transportation Specialist to upgrade your fulton.

Do you mean
lori alan?

On the topic of that, (post Afghanistan spoilers)
does the Mammal Pod play a bigger role than that brief cameo when you picked up Huey. Because if not, I feel they just used Lori Alan lines they had in stock.

Given a scene in one lf the trailers, I say yes.

I'm halfway done all the side ops so far in the game.

I think I enjoy the Eliminate Heavy Duty Soldiers the best because it's a quick and easy puzzle on how can I approach each and choke them out, because I can't Fulton them otherwise due to their armour.

Any side op to the airport or the mission 12 area suck though. There's just so many guys usually.

I havent been there yet so I cant see the spoiler sorry

END GAME QUESTION

Anybody knows how to get
The true ending? I just got the quiet ending, but do I have to finish all the main ops or is there something more?

You need to complete x amount of missions, but it doesn't actually matter what ones. You could replay previous missions, complete new missions, are just complete side ops. All that matters is you just complete a set amount of whatever, which is about 5 or so roughly, I think.

I unlocked the true ending with about 7 of the main ops still uncompleted.

Anyone have advice/tips for Episode 18? I must be doing something wrong. I cannot do it at all, no progress what so ever in the past hour.

Whatever it may be, put in spoiler tags so Episode 18 won't be spoiled for others.

About 3 rockets (upgraded to level 3). I managed to group all four together to make it easier. Once two of them went down, the other two armored up so they took a bit longer to kill. Finished them off with my last rocket
.

Which mission was this again? Need a refresher.

Just finished mission 31.

For how little story there was in that conclusion, what a hell of a mission, boss fight-wise and cutscene.

That scene where you're just shooting Skullface's limbs off was powerful.

Extract the injured kid once you get out of the mine. Snipe every enemy ahead of you but keep the kids close. Once you've killed or tranq'd everyone. Then say Go. Otherwise keep telling them Wait (via L1 menu)

Oh, and keep down when the helicopter comes around (or supply drop your rocket launcher)

So do the target practice missions just keep refreshing? It's really bothering my OCD seeing them increase my side op number

Are there any hidden/secret rooms in any of the struts I need to be aware of? I found
the brig and Paz's room
in the Medical strut.

That's about it as far as I've explored.

That said, I seriously hope a PT Lisa easter egg is not a thing you can end up encountering in a dark corridor (obviously won't anyway of course). I just wouldn't handle it.

Spoilers for mission 31
Honestly I should have been prepared after the craziness that was MGS4's 'ending' but my jaw almost hit the floor when after beating selanthrowhatever you're seemingly left with a massive cliffhanger only for the game to pull the exact same shit. I'm totally thrilled that there's more missions as I'm loving the game (and that would have made an awful ending), but what the hell is the point of doing a credits fake out?

Quick question about mission 20

Is it really as simple as bringing the water gun to beating the guy or is he unbeatable?

Water Gun at least Rank 1 doesn't work
Maybe an Upgrade does. I'll have to check later, but no. That's not a valid tactic. You're on the right idea though. Look around.

Is that even needed? I just snuck through taking out guys with the tranq gun (suppresor worn off) and the kids followed by themselves. Iirc past the first big area that you can just circle its 2-3 dudes that are easy to pop

25 hours in, just fought
Quiet
in mission
11
, I hadn't actually finished missions
8
and
9
yet so it was interesting to see it pop up but I was heading into that area for a Side-Op. I like how you can do missions out of order in this game. I have a system where I'm doing all available Side-Ops before I do missions so that the S-O list doesn't get too much added to it at once and I get overwhelmed. My next S-O is to meet up with
Huey Emmerich
so I'm pumped for that.

However, one thing that's bugging me is how bright the night is. Are deserts this bright at night in real life? If so then fair enough but it's kinda spoiling my immersion because although I like to infiltrate under cover of darkness the daytime looks so much more impressive. Will it be darker in
Africa
?

Goddammit spoiled ANOTHER fucking mission by glancing up from the floor just in time to see a name. FUCK these opening credits, seriously. I can respect design decisions but this is literally the stupidest thing I've seen in a game for years.

ROTFL, was coming here to complain about the same thing.

Escorting the African Children to the LZ

Yeah, that was a bit tricky - ended up failing the second half twice. What I resorted to was just going around the soldiers initially, then just outright sniping the group that was between us and Pequod. Also, really helps to keep track of the enemy Hind on your map.

I'm pretty sure it's possible because Miller says so. I need to level up both the R&D and Support unit as well so it's a good while before I can get that Fulton upgrade I'm afraid. What are you saying though? That the skulls die more easily if you Fulton the truck?
