I'm confused by that last bit, I need to but shouldn't?

If you do, you lose her as a buddy. You either have to keep her under 100% or equip the Butterfly Emblem to avoid her leaving mission. You really want to do that as your very last thing for gameplay reasons. So yeah equip that Emblem and just wait to do that story mission. Or YouTube it. I regret doing it.

A hilarious moment happened to me yesterday.
When I did a full CQC combo on a guard and the last punch goes into super slow-mo, Quiet's bullet immediately went right through the guy's skull (slow-mo blood and everything) right as my final punch smashed into his face.

I was practically in tears when I saw that. TEAMWORK MOTHERFUCKER!

Coroner: "It wasn't the bullet that killed him sir."
Commander: "Then what was it?"
Coroner: "It was whoever punched him in the face sir."
Commander: "Mother of God!"

Is it necessary for finishing the game?

That seems like bad game design!

You can't play it stealth. You can't play it with no kill.

Both of those have been staples since MGS2.

It's just a BLOW SHIT UP level, and that's not MGS to me. This entire game, while having great moments outside of this level, are not MGS to me. And, it's frustrating. This is really an anti-MGS to me. No Snake (Big Boss is in it by name, but not by character. And Ocelot is a fucking mess as a character.) and such.

Unless the last dozen or so missions pack it up, I'm at a loss. I can't play this as a MGS game. I have to play this as a dumb action shooter game or else it is fucking frustrating like this mission. I have to kill and blow up shit with rocket launchers in this level, and that hasn't been MGS for me for a while.

Spoilers for up to mission 25
Also, if you've been playing stealth, you now need to research rocket launchers and grenade launchers, which take time and result in your Mother Base crew dying because.. god forbid you played this as a MGS game prior to this mission.

At this point, I don't care. I want it done.

Lol what are you talking about? Every Metal Gear Solid has moments where shit hits the fan and Snake has to fire a gun.

I hate it when that happens...a guy discovers me, I go into reflex mode and land the perfect tranq headshot with bullet drop just to be followed by one of quiet's deadly headshots

i skipped the
quiet battle en route to emmerich by dashing out of the battle zone. can i find her again and recruit her after doing this? i'm at the ruins and there's nothing here :C

i skipped the fight since i thought i needed a tranq sniper to recruit her, reading up i now see that's not the case

edit: nope, figured it out!

There's no definitive end to the game? But yes it's needed for 100% and story closure which is why I recommend leaving it as late as possible. Equip Butterfly Emblem and do every other thing you want to.

It pissed me off.

K, thanks, that does seem a very strange choice though :-/

Weirdest thing happened. I was doing a prisoner rescue mission. I stepped out of the base while holding the prisoner, but I accidentally fell into a pit that has underground vent access. I couldn't step out of the pit unless I dropped the prisoner. So my only option was to fulton him out from there.

Fucking bizarre and I cannot believe the designers didn't account for the case where you have a knee high ledge you want to step onto while carrying someone. I had to restart because I got spotted trying to figure out WTF to do.

The hardest mission I've played so far in terms of stealth is the Honey Bee one. Anyone who perfect stealths that is a beast.

So is there any way to change how the dudes wandering around Mother Base look? Upon coming back with Quiet, all the guys have on those cool red berets and masks, but once the scene is over they are back to normal. Can I dress them like that all the time?

Weird. I had a mission to rescue kojima that was identical to millers but I've never played GZ on PC let alone transfered a save.

So those containers of materials that are on certain platforms of Mother Base, are they already mine or do I need to fulton them to actually add them to my stockpile?

Question about mission 45.
I received the tape, Questioning Huey [6] and was told to return to Mother Base but I don't get a cutscene when I do.
Is there a specific area I'm supposed to return to?

Why didn't you throw him? I extracted a prisoner in a side op yesterday. I got in through a broken wall, but there were dudes near the one regular door exit. So since you can't vault with people on your shoulder, I just tossed him outside, crawled out and hoofed it to the extraction point.

S ranked mission 22 due to the power of quiet's suppressed tranq sniper(and a few uses of mine). Soooo insane.

Also the AI gets really dumb when they're focused on a sniper, they basically ignore you even if you're right in their face. Saw a guy on a walker run right past me and back up in the corner to just sit there and do nothing.

Lol still cannot find the damn snake eater tape wtf this is bugging me now

You need to have finished mission 13 at least

If you have I put it in spoilers
open up map and head to Africa you looking at bottom left of map. It's a outpost called Ma ya Nkioa west outpost the tape is in a brown stone building

Are there any short range silenced weapons that can piece through armor? Helmets are pissing me off at times... and even Quiet's tranq sniper just does nothing to them now.

Using quiet to scout and infiltrate a base with silent tranq sniping is so much fun. Im doing this thing where i snipe off their helmet and she fires the tranqing blow.

The AI buddies are not perfect, but considering the open world scope and level design - kojima productions have probably made the best buddy system in a game.
Whats more - there are more than 1 buddy to choose from and they are all effective and useful in their own ways.

Except D-Walker. I never use it. Just my homeslices DD, d horse and quiet.

Uhhh, FOB question. Is it normal that I can be invaded while my console is turned off? I assumed people could only invade when the other player is online and playing.

Rocket fist them

Yup, you need supporters who can go protect it for you when you're away. I wish you could add friends for this instead of randoms.

I was doing good on that one until the end. Not sure if it's possible to get out of that without being spotted.

I definitely have some complaints about the game design and Mother Base, but the worst part of the game for me is when I get spotted..... combat is absurdly easy. You can wipe out entire bases with zero effort. I usually just restart the mission when I'm spotted as it really breaks the game.

My GMP accidentally fell into the red last night. Which in turn triggered the fight club scene.
And as I went through my resource menu, I realized I still had a ton of processed gems I hadn't sold off yet. When I did, I discovered that my GMP actually maxed out at 5 million.
I'm surprised they actually put a limit on it.

is there a specific upgrade to make suppressors last longer, or is it just by upgrading the gun itself over time

Wait till they turn around shoot them face
My aim must suck. lol

Rocket fist them
It doesn't help when I'm trying to pick guys off though. Armored dudes like to bunch up a lot now it seems.

Yeah, the starting gun has an upgrade path with unlimited suppressor. But since you can call in a supply drop any time, there doesn't seem to be a need.

D-dog and Quiet are so OP in different ways lol. D-Dog lets you plan well but Quiet tranq sniper is incredible. Entire towns just fall asleep.

Also, whose idea was it to include (chapter 26? 27? onwards)
a goddamn quarantine these dudes thing, finally justifying being able to ID Mother Base staff on sight, and then forget to have an 'alphabetical sort' function for staff management

Now that I've not only finished the story but had some time afterwards to play even more, yeah, I'm dissapointed.

Didn't care for the story at all, it felt too hacked up and incomplete and there were far too many filler missions.

The gameplay was super rock solid, best in the series and one of the best of the genre, but the story, a big thing for me in Metal Gear, was such a slap in the face that it really hurt to finish and be so disappointed with it.

Hopefully MGO 3 is everything I hoped for and more and actually remains supported, my hype for it is in the stratosphere so here's hoping it delivers.

If I had to rank the game on some sort of alphabetical rating scale...

Story: D

Gameplay: A+

Visuals: PS4/Xbox One = B+
PS3/Xbox 360 = C-
PC = A

Performance: PS4/Xbox One = A+
PS3/Xbox 360 = D-
PC = S (:D)

Buy or not: If you want an amazing, crazy Metal Gear story, no. If you haven't played a Metal Gear game, depends on what you want.

So if you want a game with interesting enemy encounters, minor base management, and the ability to switch play styles on the fly between amazing stealth mechanics and balls to the wall action, this is your thing.

But for massive Metal Gear fans who wanted a good final chapter in the beloved series with an insane story that hooks deep... no, not really worth your time.
