So, using decoys and activating them just as a soldier is passing over them knocks them unconscious. Decoys are effectively silent, non-lethal mines that turn into a balloon that keeps saying "YOU'RE PRETTY GOOD" after they activate. I think they just might be my new favorite item.

Takes a few missions. Give it time.

It does not die easily. If anything it makes sneaking past areas Easy Mode.

Quiet can be found during a Side Op in a certain area after a certain point but you'll have to figure it out :p Ocelot will let you know when she is spotted in the area.

What he didn't say anything for me. I was riding my horse one day, then I got sniped out of my shoes.

oh my fucking god

gunship saw me as I was putting the kids into the chopper

it started shooting

putting the kids into chopper 1 by 1 under gunfire

checkpoint was super behind

if one gets hit I lose

buckets of sweat

take on me on the background cause chopper song

did it

got an S rank somehow

my hands shake

That mission was really great for me too.
Partnered up with Quiet armed with a tranq, and slowly, methodically made my way through each outpost to the first target quickly, silently, and perfectly neutralising everyone while extracting valuable guards. It was like poetry; quick and silent and perfect. Knew the gunship was around but it seemed out of the way. Worked my way up towards the next group of targets. Fuck, a tank. Neutralised a nearby outpost only to have the roll in. Got out of sight, but the tank knew shit was up and proceeded to wake up neutralised targets. Switched to lethal, and danced around the tank silently headshotting targets while it was none the wiser. It drove off, I set a C4 trap, waited until it swung back around and blew it to pieces.

Back on to that objective I figured I could avoid the gunship and sneak my way through to the final targets. I was first surprised at the geography of the region, bigger than a standard outpost and not a lot of cover. Got into the area easy enough, Quiet taking am, but fucked it up with a broken silencer, Quiet following through with a loud shot, and being spotted by the gunship.

Utter chaos ensured. I came close to death probably five times trying to get my head around the area, the enemy soldiers swamped in confusion as they alternate between beading in on me as I sprint around at a hundred miles per hour and defending themselves by the hidden sniper. The gunship meanwhile had me locked in sight and no matter where I hid it'd rain down gatling fire and missiles. Ran into the mines, the only place I was safe from the gunship, and far away enough from the soldiers for them to shift their focus exclusively to Quiet.

Had to call in a support drop for my rocket launcher just outside the entrance. Ran out, equipped, and in the following seconds had to line up my crude non-homing non-lockon rocket with the gunship as it lined up and was half a second away from another volley of fire right on top of me. Fired, direct hid, sent the gunship spinning in flames to the ground. Pulled out my assault rifle and with Quiet in support cleaned up the multitude of soldiers still alerted in the camp, now manageable with the gunship out of the way.

It was beautiful and glorious and so much fun.

God the amount of unmarked spoilery things in this thread is killing me..

I'm like 30 hours in and only on mission 10. I don't understand how all everyone's talking about is mission 50 or endgame stuff.

Wait goddamn, do they actually say that? In that case, I should start throwing them around, just as a sort of positive reinforcement for myself.

my god mission 16 😫😫😫😩😩

i played it for like 3 hours but retires dont count i guess... b ranked it

Take on me is in the prison side mission (one of the early ones) where you rescue a "very skilled prisoner" , it's in one of the rooms across from where the prisoner is, you will hear it anyway.

Do you remember the name of the landmark on the map?
Or the checkpoint number if its not a major place.

Really wish I could reset the AI to how it was near the start of the game. Getting sick of them always running over if they get a hint of visual contact.

That's including those 12 'variant' right? So just to complete the story it's 38?

To complete the story you need to do more than 38, but you can choose to do variant missions or side ops. There are actually some side ops that are required for the story, 11 of them.

So you're looking at 38 story missions, 11 mandatory side ops, and then another 12-15 missions (side ops or variants) of your choice for full story completion.

Tip I learned from something that happened a to me few missions ago:
If you're going for steal/no kills, don't throw people who are standing next to explosive barrels.

Sweet mother of God, 38 missions!? I played for like 9 hours and only got to mission 6 + 6 side ops done.

Mission 16 question:
I see the description says I need to extract the cargo with the truck. So does that mean I can't complete this until I get the Fulton upgrade?

It's gonna take me forever to complete this game, or even just the main story. I'm just starting mission 6 and I've played for 10 hours and 23 minutes so far according to my stats, haha.
I guess I've put in 35 hours and I'm only on mission 19.

Can probably subtract 5 or so hours just fucking around on Mother Base.

You technically can drive it out, but you'd need to eliminate the guards.

I just realized that Ocelot seems to have two accents. In the first couple missions he doesn't have much of an accent really, but then he starts having this kind of drawl almost. It's not a huge difference, but it's just enough to throw me off.

I just finished mission 20. It is my favorite up to this point for sure. As such.. Post mission 20 spoilers below

I loved the vibe, very creepy stuff. It raises more questions then answers, but its about time for some intrigue in the plot. Weird cysts and earphones in people's throats tying back to Chico in Ground Zeroes. I can't imagine what kind of explanation this will get.

Fighting off the burning man and mini mantis was really great. It was incredibly tense and it made me have to sit back and think. Tried the killer bee at first and he absorbed the missile, then exploded shrapnel everywhere. I then supply dropped the water gun.. Not enough! Seemed too easy. He ended up near the giant gas tank which I blew him the fuck up with. I have to imagine there was a few different ways to do handle this.

I did this missions in one go,
I sniper tranquilized all the enemies around the stopped vehicles then called in a supply drop for a rocket launcher and blew up both tanks before the skulls appeared then crawled around them and managed to get behind them and the truck without being spotted and the fultoned the truck
and ran away

holy shit their is a the cure track...

man i need this tapes.....

I'm glad that side ops are only "complete" rather than s rank. I'm sure the missions will be hard enough!

Yeah , currently doing an S-rank run. Also attempting to Ghost through as many missions to get that sweet no trace/perfect stealth bonus. Really fun to aim for.

yeah i finally did it but the main bullshit about it for me was the checkpoints are straight grabage.. they put you fucking half way across the map and you basically have to run the whole way there... i just watched a vid on how to s rank it in 5 mintues smfh...

the main reason i didnt just restart was at the begeining was i had fultoned like 4 or 5 a+ guards and didnt want to loose them....

i really wish time wasnt a factor is this game i like to take my time and be patient... this game wants you to do shit lickety split... not meh style..

Or next to areas your suppose to blow up.

"Is that body far enough from the C4?"

*activates C4*

"........shit."

So I am at mother base working on one of the missions and I am trying to do a different mission instead in Afghanistan, but when I select one of the story missions to do it tells me "Area of operations is different. Move to the correct location from the Aerial Command Center." What does that mean?

Lmao, I was standing literally next to the hot zone edge when I completed this one mission, Miller tells me to flee, take two steps forward, "GOOD JOB SNAKE, YOU'VE ESCAPED"

You can only change missions from your helicopter.

FOB: I don't get it... I put security settings to max balls to the wall m8888, but when I go to training, it's still empty. Also are all FOB bases the same layout?

Do you remember the name of the landmark on the map?

I'd like to know this as well. What's the name of the location?

I see a few side ops with extracing highly skilled people...I also want Take Me On

I don't remember the exact name but it's Something Supply Depot on the West end of the map. It's the next large area directly west on the road from the ruins

I beat mission 16 with practically zero trouble at all after a bit of trial and error.
Right after the cutscene where the skulls hop out of the truck finishes, I ran straight up a catwalk on a nearby building. I had Quiet positioned in such a way where she had clear shots at all of them. Because the skulls were funneled on this narrow catwalk, I just fired an ass load of rockets into them until they were all dead. None of them even got near me at any point (Quiet's shots would briefly stun them).
