Racial profile me if old.

Black former tennis star James Blake was mistakenly slammed to the ground and handcuffed Wednesday outside his hotel in New York by five, white police officers who thought he was a suspect in a identity theft ring, the New York Daily News reported.

Blake was headed to the U.S. Open and to make corporate appearances for Time-Warner cable, according to the report.

Police tackled Blake to the ground. Blake had a cut on his left elbow and bruises on his left leg.

Blake was previously ranked No. 4 in the world for tennis, according to the newspaper.

He has dark skin, so he must be guilty.

Nothing new here folks, just the same old roles being played for the last hundred years or so.

Blake was handcuffed for about 15 minutes before an officer apologized and said that they had the wrong person.

"You'd think they could say, 'Hey, we want to talk to you. We are looking into something.' I was just standing there. I wasn't running," Blake told the Daily News.

You'd think.

If they'd tried to talk to him he could have stolen their identities and escaped, clearly tackling was the right course of action when dealing with these suspected supervillains.

Not disagreeing with you, but

They might have thought they were stopping the next 9/11.

Can't be too careful what with those optical pat downs.

NYPD just making sure black folks know that even if you go to Harvard and become a successful athlete, they can still assault you in public for no reason

Are we sure that this is about racism? Tired of the media making everything about race, how dare they trying to take me out of my confort bubble in which I dont have to accept reality for what it is?

america's dwindling interest in tennis meets its ever reliable interest in the unfair treatment of its black citizens

Tackled like that for a white collar crime? Sounds about right for one if the most racist organizations in the US.

It had to be for a white collar crime. Why else would a black man be wearing a suit? - NYPD probably.

Also like how it starts with "Black former tennis star..." like if they had put the black after the former people might think he used to be black.

Oh gee, the NYPD fraud prevention unit being totally racist? What a shocker. (These are the same dudes who do the arrests for "credit card fraud" in department stores that magically target only black guys in high end retailers.)

The natural evolution of loss prevention officers following black people around the store.

Compared to the general NYC population - Arabs, Latin Americans, Indians - he isn't definitively "black" in appearance.

Why couldn't they just take him downtown by asking him first or just tell him he's under arrest in a civil manner.
Because their jobs are so stressful that they have to immediately assume that they have to take extreme measures at all times. Did you know that walking up to a stationary black man is one of the most dangerous parts of being a police officer?

Funny, that's what the Rehnquist Supreme Court thought as well.

Apparently if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it's a fucking horse until proven otherwise through the duck explicitly admitting it's a duck or being caught on tape calling itself a duck.

You really don't want to do this shikamaru

I'm a person of color myself - there is a much broader concept of "race" in the NYC populace - as opposed to outside this melting pot. Not saying I know what the actual circumstances are.

We all are blacks to the NYPD.

I could see that - but I personally and professionally know some cops who are good people, many of them minorities. But trust me when I tell you I've encountered a ton of a**hole cops.

I think we can all agree the only race NYPD cares about is Blue, the rest they shoot or harass depending on the amount of paperwork required.

Terrible. Blake was just going about his own business. There wasn't even a reason to tackle him. He wasn't resisting and was unarmed.

Honestly I'm torn, sure on one hand he's black. But I mean he doesn't look 100% black black. They probably thought he fit the description of a white guy and tackled him. I think we need to stop thinking everything is about racism, like racism is never going to go away if we keep bringing it up every time something happens to someone. I mean maybe if the black community had better leaders and were in better shape, then blacks who are good people wouldn't be punished for the blacks who are bad crime. I think we need to dismantle our race based views in this country, stop seeing things as "black people this" or "white people" that and start seeing ourselves as once race the American race. Not to sound racist, but my best friend is black and even he agrees that black on black violence is the real problem in the black community, that and rap music glorifying money does black youth no good. Not to say it's black people's fault, they've been dealt a shitty hand in life, but slavery was 400 years ago, they gotta get over it. I personally don't see color. Black people also aren't helping matters by inconveniencing others by "protesting" and waging a war on cops.

TL;DR - If you're not breaking the law you have nothing to worry about. Race has nothing to do with it. America is pretty much post racial. This is what Bernie Sanders is trying to fix, our class and economic problem. Vote for Bernie

Thank god he shaved his had, he might have caught 54 to the chest with these

Yea he would have got clips from an entire squad if they saw him with that.

You can be the poshest of black people and still get beat down for no reason. This sets a precedence, we're just not safe walking down the street anymore

because law enforcement has lost the benefit of the doubt.
