Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

The "tornado" looks more like a block effect on a move. Like if they were hit with something big. I don't think this is gonna be Cody, but I know a lot of people that would be happy he's in.

Gotta post this again...

As you can see that blue/purple effect it's already in the game. It poops at every hit that's block. The stronger the attack it's, the bigger it is.

So I wouldn't mind too much about it.

Also for the record, projectiles don't cause that effect on block.

Only important thing about that picture it's the "windy/movement lines that surround blanka"

I dunno, you'd be forgiven for thinking Necalli was an elemental character based on his teaser image, and Mika and Birdie's teaser images were similarly misleading. Ono likes to be very obscure with his teases.

I am not expecting anything in particular. Would like to see some female additions, would be nice if it was closer to 60/40 than 70/30. Just not Juri.

I'm hoping we get a well designed female character this time.

I'm honestly not seeing that. Whatever is hitting Ryu in the teaser pics looks too different a shade than the block effect to be the same thing to me. We'll see.
Offscreen picture. Pretty sure the only important part of the picture is the small tornado. Man I really hope Cody is in.

New BornFree vid. His final roster speculation is Karin, Juri, Gief to fill out the remaining 3 slots. I'm with him on Karin. That's a no brainer. She's going to help drive sales/interest in Japan for sure. Juri is also sounding more likely when you consider the merch factor.

BornFree also brings up the SFV Pacquiao promotional efforts from earlier this year, which I had forgotten about and seem very interesting to me now. It could be nothing, but another South East Asian characters makes a lot of sense, especially going back to Bogard's(?) notion of targeting new, more PC oriented markets. I'm sure people would be hyped to see a Pacman inspired character, and he also fills out the boxer role. Of course, that doesn't fit into Zen/Laura/Rachid, but maybe DLC? Sagat might also find a reason to be in SFV since he's from the same region.

As I've said before, I kinda doubt that Juri will be in the base roster (but she's almost guaranteed as DLC). SFIV is just too recent to be considered classic, even counting Juri's popularity. SFII is definitely classic, the Alpha crew is already considered in the eyes of Capcom to be not classic (though I could argue that the likes of Sakura & Dan could classify as such), & SFIII can be debated depending on who you ask, but SFIV started its life in 2009. Not exactly what one would define as "classic". I can understand where BornFree is coming from as far as Juri goes, but I don't think Juri fits that description. As for Zangief, based on what Combofiend has said, Rainbow Mika seems to be the grappler of the base SFV roster (& apparently the only one of the base roster, correct me if I'm wrong). Combofiend noted that there are other characters with grapple moves, but that Mika is the only grapple-oriented character in the base SFV roster on the caliber of Zangief, Hugo, & Haggar.

juri is not a classic character or a character I would absolutely expect to be in a new Street Fighter, nor is someone we haven't seen in a while.

Anyway, soon guys, soon.

I'm not really sure why there's so much speculation on who is left to be revealed in the roster. Bogard and Siliconera have both revealed information early which was correct and haven't had any part of thier predictions proven wrong.

I think it's a safe bet that the last 3 returning characters are Karin, Alex and Urien and that the 3 new characters are the ones Bogard described.

It's because of the recent "classic characters who SF fans expect" comment that threw the Siliconera leak into question.

Karin, Zangief and Dhalsim
I've already expressed my skepticism about Zangief, but we're also due for a South Asian (supposedly Indian) newcomer who could check that box instead of Dhalsim. That being said, there's room for more than one Indian, but usually Japan & America are the countries where multiple characters are pulled from for Street Fighter (with a few exceptions).

Gotcha, I've been on vacation and a bit out of the loop. I suppose that is a bit hard to resolve the Siliconera leak with that.

Nash, Birdie and Mika haven't been in a game since Alpha 3 in 1998 so they are firmly in the "Not been seen for a while" category.

Alex was the main character in SF3 and was in Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom so it's kind of questionable which category he falls in. I think you could argue it either way but most would probably say he hasn't been seen in a while.

Karin and Urien were both last in Capcom Fighting Evolution in 2004. Much weaker version of the classic vs. unseen question above for this. Even if you accepted Alex as classic you still have 2 characters for one slot to fill.

My guess is that Karin will make the starting roster Because of how well her poll results were and that Alex and Urien have been pushed back to DLC in a decision made after the leak.

Having worked at a large Japanese game pub/dev before, I really don't think any plans were changed due to the leaking. Too much emphasis in the community is placed on information getting out that really has no effect on the game's development in the long term. At worst, it'll be a minor headache for Capcom, but there's too much planning, scheduling and budgeting involved to change plans on the fly.

Well, I said I thought that the change was made after the leak not due to it. It really doesn't make a lot if sense to change plans when info gets out considering it doesn't really cause any issues aside from making the announcements a bit less exciting.

What if Guy and Cody are merged into one character?

Gody.

Sounds god-like to me.

Dunno about Alpha not being classic. For SF4 Capcom went to drink to the alpha well waaay before even considering anyone from 3. Dan and Sakura, sure, but also Rose were included in Vanilla SF4. Also Gen, who's technically from SF1, but seems that Capcom wants to forget that game, based on how Birdie in the SFV character card seems to be from Alpha originally. Lol.

All things considered, SF3 was decently represented from SSF4 onwards; Dudley, Makoto and Ibuki at Super's launch, followed by the twins in arcade edition, finishing with Hugo and Elena in Ultra. There are still 9 guys that are SF3 exclusive that didn't show up in 4, but some of those are Gill, Sean, and the weirdos Necro and Oro. Last two ones are my favs from SF3, but let's be honest, they aren't prolly the most popular SF3 peeps. Gonna go on a limb and say that Alex spent out his chance of appearing in SF4 by appearing in Tatsunoko.

The people who played SF2 back then are the most hardcore of them all, what with giving a chance to a game that was completely different from everything else, with weird controls, six face buttons, and at the same time a sequel to a p bad game.

Everyone who games back then played Street Fighter 2, not a lot stuck with it.

Also Street Fighter 1 wasn't a bad game by any means, but it has aged terribly.

Hahaha. No. SF was really popular. It was innovative, yes, but people that played it was not hardcore. It was a phenomenon, everybody played sf back then. Most everybody was there for turbo. Just a few for super. These were the hardcore sf2 fans.

Casuals want to see Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Akuma. After that, maybe M. Bison, Sagat, Cammy, Zangief, and Guile. The rest they don't really give a crap about. SF2 being popular and recognizable doesn't extend to the entire cast outside of the hardcore fanbase.

The "classic" comment weren't the only thing that threw the leaks into question. Someone also said in an interview regarding Mika that she's the only wrestler in the cast, which makes both Zangief and Alex unlikely.

Edit: Never mind. Gief and Alex are still on.

Link? If true, that's the best SFV news I've heard in awhile. I mean, it's terrible that Alex isn't going to be in. But, we aren't getting any SF3 characters, so the best I can hope for is good newcomers and Zangief to not be present.
