God of War 3's intro used to be my favourite. Not anymore.

It's now MGS V's.

Goodness, GAF. I was so not prepared for the epicness thay was the prologue. Such a bombastic, mind bending intro. I played it with a friend, and we were left speechless. Never expected such an insane intro to this game, a game that is quite different for the rest of the playthrough. I'm only on Ep 11, and I really really want to replay that whole sequence again. Can't stop thinking about it too.

Easily the best first hour I've seen since God of War 3.

*Salute Kojima*.

What are your favourite intros?

The Last of Us and God of War 3.

100% agree.

Both games set their respective tone perfectly with the opening chapter of the game. Anyone with a PS4 that missed out on either games I implore you to buy the Remastered versions and play them

The Last of Us or God of War 3 intros surpass
staggering around the ground for 25 minutes
.

As a MGS fan I expected more. It's good-not great.

I wonder if people who liked the intro never watched the first two trailers for this game. I mean, they basically spoiled the whole thing. And it's not even the best intro of the series, MGS2's is still the king.

MGSV's is bad from a gameplay standpoint. The waking up part takes too long.
It's interesting but I wouldn't consider it to be great

It's weird and crazy and awesome, but gameplay wise it is shit.

The GoW3 intro is one of the best boss fights in the game

Plus Ground Zeroes is the real intro

I liked it the first time. Not to mention it was all shown before in trailers.

Mission 46 spoilers:
they make you do it again which only showed how slow and unfun it is.

It's good the first time. Second time I fell asleep out of boredom. Nothing beats onimusha 3's intro even if it's not playable.

From a gameplay perspective Bloodborne is now the pinnacle of game beginnings.

From a Holy Shit perspective Metal Gear Rising is at the top.

I absolutely loved it the first time, but it doesn't get much mileage afterwards.

Can't really say it is my favorite for that reason alone.

I HATED the MGS5 intro. It was an example of everything wrong with AAA games in my mind. Entirely scripted, no control, took forever to get through.

GoW 3 has the best intro, but I haven't played MGSV yet. So I'll need to watch a video to see if it's as good as GoW 3's intro.

I think the slowness of it made complete sense. Plus, the shit that happens throughout is utterly insane.

There are three things in gaming I cannot stand.

1: Moving along a set path at an ultra slow speed with the illusion of control (you only need to press up and it'll move you along the required path in all directions).

2: Forced slow tutorials when it's obvious you already know how to play the basics of the game (like, say if there was a previous mini-game with the same basic control scheme).

3: Being locked into a place and able to look around freely, but not being allowed to move until the game decides to allow you to move.

Guess which intro had all three of these in massive amounts.

I like the bombast in the Phantom Pain's intro, but playing it was a chore. I'd rather it have been a long cutscene than an awkward tutorial. It's my second least favorite mission in the game, behind mission 46.

I loved the tone MGSV's opening set, but as I was "playing" it I said to myself "I am never starting a new game on MGSV again so I'd better make this playthrough count"

I liked it well enough for what it did, but I never want to do it again.

I really don't understand the love for MGSV's intro. I was done with it after 20 minutes but it keeps going for like an hour. Doesn't come come close to MGS1 or MGS2's moody intros, or MGS3's HALO jump cutscene (even if that was a slow intro as well). The music and Snake monologue in MGS4 alone are much better as well. This is before getting into titles like God of War 3, Bayonetta, Resident Evil 4, The Last of Us, etc., etc. that still reign supreme.

I don't get it.

Metal Gear Rising.

RAY battle > anything else

Lol! No...

Yeah, the intro was incredible. Too bad the game shit the bed immediately after. I wish the whole thing felt like the intro sequence in terms of pacing and tension.

I wouldn't say it shit the bed, but I would definitely like more similar sequences in the game. Shit was fucking whacked.

It was ok I guess, I don't see how it compared to TLOU's intro at all though. That was legitimately amazing, MGS5 seemed protracted and slow.

Resident Evil 2. The run to the police station was super memorable.

MGS5 was neat from a story point, but the gameplay was pretty crappy.

I've watched the God of War 3 intro countless times and it always gets me pumped to play.

I never want to replay that first hour of MGS V ever again. So very slow and drawn out - its good for one playthrough from me ;p

Once it was over and I was capable of doing the open world stuff I fell completely in love with the game.

Last of Us is still king.
Yep. The Last of Us and God of War 3, pretty much. I thought COD4's intro was amazing for the time too.

My favorite intro would be either the Undead Asylum or Persona 4's long ass chill intro.

I hated MGS V's prologue though, thank god the game is nothing like that.

Kinda how I feel too honestly. I heard how hype it was in the spoiler thread, but ultimately, I didn't find it that engaging. Some parts were cool, but ultimately it was fairly mundane and too long. Liked most of the rest of the game though.

TLOU, MGS3 and Revengeance are my favorites, for what it's worth.

Resident Evil 2. The run to the police station was super memorable.

Forgot all about that; great pick too. Felt like a truly epic in scope zombie outbreak at the time.

Dragged on for far too long but I enjoyed it. The game has its ups and downs for me, but the ups are really fucking amazing.

The opening with the man who sold the world and then going into that incredibly intense section with Kojima-isms spread throughout, and the whole WTF is going on element made it really special, even if a lot of it started off with crawling and what not. I was never once distracted or wanted it to end.

Plus, not a lot of it was shown in the trailers. There was a LOT they didn't show. That chase sequence was brilliant too.
