God of War 3's intro used to be my favourite. Not anymore.

It was alright but I couldn't help but wonder how often Kojima wants to show us totally retarded soldiers that keep shooting at some shit they obviously can't kill....

The intro to TPP was really bad, in my opinion. Flopping around on the ground isn't fun for me.

So, I take it you don't like MGS as well then, as 'flopping around on the ground' has taken up the majority of those 28 years.

Also, while it may not be the most interesting thing to PLAY, but there's little that comes close to this in terms of sheer wow WTF factor. Atleast for me, anyway. GoW3, TLoU and Uncharted 2 are up there.

I think GOW3 is my favourite in terms of spectacle, but I didn't really enjoy the fight itself.

My favourite in gameplay terms is probably Gears.

That intro was cool and all but too bad it was all spoiled in that first Phantom Pain trailer from the VGA. That alone made it less exciting as I knew what to expect.

I don't think TLOU had a good intro at all. It might as well have been a non interactive cutscene.

Well, at times some gameplay compromises have to be made to set a story in motion. How interesting would it have been if you started out doing stealth sequences?

As much as I'm enjoying MGSV, about 10 seconds into controlling Snake in the intro I thought "I'm going to hate redoing this if I ever have to". It's extremely slow.

Agreed it was awesome, I'm a huge proponent of open areas/worlds and gameplay over linear scripted levels but because I knew it'd all open up later I could thoroughly embrace it and well it was great.

It was gorey, it was thrilling, the flameguy overstayed his welcome but I was completely engrossed by the atmosphere and experience.

I even liked the bait and switch of
remaking BB's face disgruntledly only to stop right before
and I absolutely hate bait and switches, there've been many books, manga, etc. I've put down and never touched again because of them.

You'd think the suspension of disbelief would be impossible but it wasn't. Probably helped that I didn't watch many trailers.

Best one by far for me was The last of us intro so memorable and so many feelings. Second best is the God of War 3 intro its so epic nothing comes close to it.

MGSV intro is cool and all but it's frustrating on multiple playthroughs due to how long it takes and how limited the control is for most of it. Imagine having to sit through the waking up part on new playthroughs, feels like it would be a bit annoying
GOW 3's is impressive every single time I play it but both are pretty damn great in general

Morrowind. To the point and the flexibility of play appears immediately. Getting off that boat...

Worst one has to go to Baldur's Gate 2. Long, drawn out, and a real dog's breakfast of themes compared to the strong level design throughout the rest of the game.

Far Cry 2 is a solid start. A car ride and a gun fight.

You're either being deliberately obtuse, or you really are slow. I'm going to assume it's the former and refrain from explaining how wrong you are and how bad you are at making an example.
As for the "WTF factor" I didn't feel that at all, not after 17 years of Kojima's self indulgent nonsense.

I HATED the MGS5 intro. It was an example of everything wrong with AAA games in my mind. Entirely scripted, no control, took forever to get through.

agreed.

And Kojima new flow camera makes everything so sloooooooow I wish he went back to editing and cut instead of one shots... I mean it worked for GZ intro but please not everywhere it just kills the pacing of cinematics

I gotta say Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain and The Last of Us has the best intros to any game or movie, I ever had the pleasure of experiencing!

I'm not sure how I feel about the intro to Phantom Pain. There are a lot of "holy shit" moments, but while playing it, I felt like it dragged on for too long and it wasn't particularly fun to move around. For reference, I really enjoyed the way MGS1-4 + Ground Zeroes opened up, but this one... I just don't know. Perhaps the way it's directed/presented plays a part? It's hard to articulate my feelings on it, so I'll have to give it another go in the hopes that I'll be able to express it in a more eloquent and complete manner. I'm mostly going off of how I felt while playing it.

Yeah, I thought it worked really well in Ground Zeroes.

MGSV is an OK game, I like what I'm playing now but the intro is terrible. Five minutes in and I was "will you please let me play the f* game?". I really didn't like it. Thank god the game becomes enjoyable afterwards.

God of War 3's intro pretty much destroys MGS's. That's my opinion.

Haven't played GoW3 yet, but the MGSV intro was not that great. It was kind of slow and boring, and not as "weird" as everyone says.

MGSV intro was GOAT material until you started walking around more. Even then it was still pretty brilliant as far as tutorials go.

MGSV is for sure a good contender. But God of War 3's opening is way stronger. MGSV's opening isn't even the best in the series. That belongs to MGS3

Bayonetta 2 opening is more epic than anything else. It's like fighting five Final Fantasy final bosses in a row.

I don't think MGSV's intro is even in the same league as God of War 3's from a bombastic, epic perspective. Not to mention God of War's features far more gameplay.

The Last of Us has it beat in terms of narrative impact, too.

The MGSV intro is good, but whatever it is people feel from that intro that elevates it to greatness for them, must have gone straight over my head. By the end I was ready for it to end and to move on.

It's really something but it's not meant to be replayed while fresh in the memory.

Which is kind of dumb because that's exactly what happens.

Resident Evil 4 was never dethroned.

intros? pfft that goes to the last of us - i was expecting to play it for about 20 minutes to get a feel for it before going to bed..NOPE. that game grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and said "HEY YOU, FUCK YOU, IM THE LAST OF US AND YOU WILL PLAY ME NOW". didnt go to bed for a few hours after that.

MGSV intro would have been more interesting for me if it wasn't shown in the trailers so much. Definately good intro doe. Ironically MGS2 intro and the Raiden trick works because of how much they showed it.

Worst one has to go to Baldur's Gate 2. Long, drawn out, and a real dog's breakfast of themes compared to the strong level design throughout the rest of the game.

I will never get the hate for BG2 opening dungeon. I think it is really fun way to start a D&D game, great intro dungeon. The only problem I see with it is if you replay the game a lot.

MGSV's is bad from a gameplay standpoint. The waking up part takes too long.
It's interesting but I wouldn't consider it to be great

Agreed. I actually think it's totally undeserving of praise. It's borderline poor in terms of player interaction. I don't dig.

Torn on the intro, really well directed, and high production value, and out there. But man, some of the stuff was just too ridiculous, like the stuff hiding under the cot, the playing dead in the hallway(are the enemies just blind?) a lot of the Man on Fire stuff, the fire truck and guy hitting the windshield.

I try to convince myself he was hallucinating all of it, just to avoid the cringiness. Though it was a great ride, and I like how unique it was.

I'm a little baffled by the love the worm simulator intro got. I thought it was terrible. Thankfully the game itself is aces.

The Last of Us intro is great because it lasts like 15 minutes. MGSV's intro is one hour, c'mon.

Well, the Silent Hill games have moments at the start that show them 'sane' before the totally insane Silent Hill shenanigans start taking over.

Silent Hill 2 especially. The short intro with the bathroom scene, the disturbing letter from James' dead wife, followed by the loooong misty walk down a dirt road, symbolizing leaving society behind and entering a different world (Silent Hill). That was strong and very well done. It doesn't explain anything, but the feeling is there. That set-up for a disturbing trip into the unconscious. So amazing imo.

Nothing comes close to The Last of Us intro. Emotionally. Cinematically. The tension rising. Damn, I remember how perplex my friends behind me were when Joel starts crying.

God of War 3 is very confusing if you have never played any previous GOW game. Its very cool, but I played it recently and was just thinking "wtf is going on..."

MGS 5 is awesome but I played it a second time through to get the optional objectives done and its annoying as hell doing the first few minutes of crawl walk, and the number of cut scenes you have to skip through is insane. Its just skip skip skip skip for like 20 button presses at some points.

Last of Us definitely is the greatest for me, that emotional shock resonates the entire game. Watching other people react to it is great too, like the teens react video
