Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Well for reference, this is what my crucible menu currently looks like:

The bottom three are the legacy playlists (6v6, 3v3, free-for-all), while the middle ones are all locked behind TTK, including salvage and control. The top three cannot be selected - if there are legacy versions of other game modes as you say, I guess this might be where they appear, but there isn't any indication of this right now. I imagine the middle icon in the top row will end up being the trials of osiris at some point.

This is my vanguard menu:

Again, bottom one is the level 20 legacy playlist, the one on the right is locked behind TTK (it's level 41). There is another icon on the left that I can't select, but it's worth noting that it also has a barely-visible TTK icon on it, so it's fair to assume that I won't be able to access that either.

I'm pretty sure one of the Legacy crucible playlists includes control in it. I think it's the first one

Question about the 17gb patch.
On PS4 is done downloaded through the "downloads" section in the same way other games download their updates -- or does the game have to be running, and has to be patched in client?
It downloads on PS4 first, then the game updates once you start it up. The game part doesn't take as long as the PS4 does though.

Gotcha, thanks for the image.

Salvage was always an "event" mode versus a static playlist before but I'm shocked that a Control playlist isn't accessible. Always seemed like they considered it the "basic" PvP mode.

This is so much better, like I can't believe it, really. The addition of Quests makes the game infinitely better. In the first 30 minutes of playtime I've seen more polish than the entire time with Vanilla and the other two expansions. The new kiosks are great because they show you how many more items you have to discover, which is a great motivator.

Also, the new ghosts are wonderful. gg Bungie.
You've seen the OP right...

uhhh...

wow. what an oversight.

lol. I knew it looked familiar... sorry, I didn't have the OP open when I came across it on Reddit.

They'll still work fine in normal PVP.

Awesome! See you there.

Bungie has flip flop their message when it comes to old gear. For example, they said they would never upgrade the Vex, well they did. I would keep the old raid gear just incase they have a change of heart.

Oh man! Now it works. Where did you buy those, I want some for the office.

Good points. It seems like I'm already juggling space on one character. I'll just dismantle all the non-raid equipment.

Thanks for sharing these. That really sucks. This is a much greater extent of lost content than either of the previous expansions. Coupled with the removal of the nightfall, weekly heroic, and everything else like the daily story mission being gated, I would be pissed. Console games usually have a much longer life than one year, especially if you paid in for two DLCs already. That's a $100 one-year investment that is now pretty neutered.

Feels weird having greens better then some of my legendaries. Still making my way through house of wolves missions. Also werent we suppose to get year one bonuses? Ive uet to see anything anywhere, how do i get those items?

Yeah, the improvement is insane. It's even better when you realize that this is now the blueprint for the entire future of Destiny.

The new cutscenes have so much more personality than the old game, it's great. Granted, it's all very much Marvel flick quip-a-minute humor, but that's a giant leap from what the game used to be.

Best moment so far is definitely the (minor cutscene spoilers)

Shipwright: Isn't that Eris Morn's ship?
[wide shot of very obviously Eris's ship]
Cayde: ...Hm

Loved that scene!

Found something interesting in the Dreadnaught. Secrets abound

Found a path that led me to a locked chest, had to jump through a bunch of invisible platforms. From there I jumped to more platforms and reached another ledge where another treasure chest was. This was surrounded by Lv 38 "Blind Thralls" who i couldn't damage. The chest next to them said A Scent is the Key

Response to above location spoiler:
I'm betting there were more invisible platforms above you. A Scent is the Key is a play on words for Ascent is the key.

Someone on Reddit posted about a room/chest that gave you a "Scent of Devourer" indication or something similar. Could be related?

And this was only with 35 minutes of playtime before work. I can't wait to really dig in. Having new "blue/green" weapons outclassing year 1 legendaries feels so strange, though. I don't want to equip them, even if they do provide a light level boost and are "stronger," lol.

Main quest took me between 3 and 4 hours. It was weird because I basically understood exactly what was going on, who was talking, what they were talking about. There was also genuine personality throughout. And holy crap is there ever a ton of content to still see. Bravo to Bungie thus far, damn good work.

Yeah, I know. Thankfully the new gear looks pretty cool and I like changing stuff around for a change of scenery.

Do I need to download a patch for today? I was up to date yesterday.

Some other questions: is there a GAF clan on Xbone? What faction should I align myself with? I'm a new player.

True dat. I like mixing and matching new armor with all my shaders trying to find the right combo. Massive waste of time, but so gratifying in the end, haha.

Also, the Taken Psion multiplying and whatnot is pretty cool. Original Psion's didn't do that, did they?

What..? I don't even anymore.

Well to be fair, I had vanilla for about a month.

I had access to Daily Heroic, Weekly Heroic, Nightfall whenever they didn't have TDB or HoW levels in rotation, access to all legendaries from the Vanguard, Crucible and Faction gear vendors plus fight in the Iron Banner and get bounties from Petra and Eris Morn.

As of today I have nothing of that.

I'm not sure if I can earn Legendary Marks at all, but if so then let's say I can buy from the vendors.

There is less end game content for Vanilla owners than before. Sad but true.

Anyone have access to their Suros weapons yet? I have the emblem and shader, but I'm not being prompted about the weaponry. Also, I'm a bit peeved that I missed out on getting the Fixer cloak that I wanted for my Hunter. I only needed one more day of it being available, and I'd have been able to buy it. What are the chances of it popping up elsewhere? It was previously a Legendary Class Item that Cayde-6 sold. I never saw it anywhere else.
Go to ammo dude he has a row of Suros weapons that cost nothing they are lvl 38 ones though I'm pretty sure those are them 😊

This is true for every game ever that has expansions. As more expansions are released, those who don't upgrade are left behind.

Well I mean... Destiny IS an MMO. In ways this is similar to FFXIV when Heavensward released. Sure you could play without owning it, but previous things like Expert Roulette are unable to be played by people who only own vanilla.

Think I've heard enough nice stuff about the expansion and the amount of content that will be in the game now for me to make the jump into Destiny finally.

Guess I'll be picking up the ps4 legendary edition if I've read everything right.

I'm having halo 1 and 2 kind of fun with the story mode
told you my stealth drive would work

Gonna add you :D

Yeah I guess I should have known by how shitty the missions on patrol were :-P

And I agree, although I thought it would be more like the past two expansions. But it's not outrageous when someone says that some content was cut from Vanilla.

nah nothing. i checked.

The
scent of the devourer thing sounds promising though.

Aw goddamnit, I can feel it pulling me back in. Had over 100 hours in the original game, then I quit because of the lack of new content and the pricing of DLC. Early reactions in this thread are also not helping...

...Not being able to play missions at the highest difficulty is pretty off-putting. I mean, the first mission requires 240 Light for example (Impossible as a level 36 with maxed Y1 gear+ some TTK stuff), when the main game and expansion at least had enough room for the player to go through Hard mode.

Oh, and I'm surprised that the Reef dialogue is the same in talking about catching Wolves.
