Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

34 - 40 was great, quests were awesome. But this fucking currency system is trash. I'm not really into playing crucible for a chance at some type of reward or currency.

So close.
I actually miss the old marks.

At least dailies and weeklys always give them. The TTK missions also give a lot.

So the light stuff is now separated from XP, but as soon as I reach 40 (I hear this happens absurdly fast) I will then be grinding for light? Why is this better?

I'm down with most of the other changes, but this one does not compute.

It is a loot game. Character progession is still ultimately tied to gear acquisition. The change to the leveling system is just a shell game. The upside is that it is much easier to acquire good gear.

Cloaks having defense kind of makes me sad. My Legend of Six Coyotes is a piece of shit now basically. They should have let us upgrade these..

They want you to move on and wear new gear.

No Taken King expansion means limited Crucible lists? wtf
Control/Clash, I can't pick Control or Clash, I can only cycle through them?
Bungie, always moving backwards while moving forward.

Yeah, that's basically what they did with the weekly strikes, if you didn't have the dlc the week they chose that strike you couldn't do the weekly hat week. Pretty lame.

Im so glad my Redbull destiny code worked. I was worried that it would have been used already.

also ended up cutting the can in half to find the "tab".

Been stuck at "transferring game content" on PS4 for the last hour. I already downloaded the 16gig update in the xmb but it shows .83/15.89 gb ingame, what gives?

I finally got the Legend of You stuff to work for my Hunter and Titan. The Titan one give a different title in the video than what it describes below the player.

Almost at end of first mission, dude knocks me off ledge. Land on some small piece of geo and surprisingly live. I'm like, kick ass! Go to fly back up, get stuck inside a small tunnel underneath the map. Had to abandon mission and start over. Grrrrr.

Not a good Taken King first impression :/

The Vault of Glass mission was awesome! We also got to learn the legend of Praedyth and how he came to die.
I'm in love with TTK.

I stopped playing after completing the campaign and reaching the Light Gear farming phase.

I'm guessing if I just have the base game, I'm better off grabbing the Taken King Legendary Edition? I want to give Destiny another shot.

Fairly successful day I think. Got my light level to 223 and a decent selection of gear.

I love love love the quest system. It gives you a clear roadmap of stuff to do after you finish the story, which was a huge problem in vanilla. Having extra story missions after the main story is finished is nice as well.
Praydth
mission was cool. Not a fan of the legendary marks stuff. I did the strike playlist quest and didn't get any which I think is stupid. No reason to limit them to heroic playlists.

TTK is great otherwise. If you were burned by vanilla now's the time to jump back in. I've barely scratched the surface of the Dreadnaught secrets for those of you who were worried there wouldn't be enough PvE content. So much stuff to find and figure out.

Also, swords are amazing.

Has anyone figired out the Taken Assault:Earth quest yet? I need taken champions and that object.

Don't even try to do it solo. You have to kill the lieutenants fairly quickly to draw out the champion, and the champion is tough himself.

I redeemed the codes using the Playstation app before I read on the card you should install destiny before redemming the code. I'm at work and was hoping to download the expansions before getting home.

For anyone who didn't have destiny prior to this can I start those downloads now or do I have install the disc and then download the rest?

Got to 225 here and had to force myself to stop lol. Gotta be up early got work. :p

Haven't done the sword quest yet!

Make sure you have a hunter to do it with. Nightstalker has some perk that shows locations of chests on the minimap. Makes chest farming 100x easier.

Love my sunbro Titan but incredibly jealous of that perk.

I haven't heard of this expansion at all, have I been living under a rock?

Haven't played Destiny but I've been interested. Might have to pick this up for PS4 on my way home from work. I don't have time to play a regular MMO but it looks like Destiny would be a good game to scratch the itch of getting some epic loot. What's the go with people who have no friends to play with, is there matchmaking/lobbies?

Only if you reach above a certain light level, which is only achievable in TTK

Cool. Thank you. I'm assuming that's what the "Impossible 240" difficulty is for me at the moment. ;)

I did purchase TTK along with some friends, but no one knew if the old content was actually something that we could feasibly play once at a high level. Glad it's not going to waste. Thanks again.

So my path of the sun singer quest tells me to fully upgrade sunsinger... Which it is but isn't recognizing this. Known bug or am I missing something ?

There is matchmaking for many activities, but for some (the big ones being raids) you need to party up; DestinyGAF has you covered there.

Same thing happened to me with the Striker quest line. I just used my Fist of Havok and created some orbs and the quest was completed.

Yeah.. my buddy has a hunter and he was like "hey! I can see chests!"

Kinda jelly... But being a lock is too good. Can't wait to get my Thor on, too.

Good to hear, thanks.

Gotta try to resist researching classes etc. at work for the rest of today now! I always go the tankiest class anyway. :)

The tankiest class is not the one you would think based on the archetype and description,FYI.

What's the tankiest class then? I don't always play tanks but generally. I heard Warlocks are a thing in Destiny too. Do the classes drastically alter the gameplay or are they all pretty samey with slightly varied stats & weapon usage?

I enjoyed the story. Didn't like the (not sure if this counts as spoilers so i covered em anyways)
rehashed locations for missions. Not a fan of the new enemies outside of the storyline either.

It seems very PVP based, and I'm not a fan of Crucible. Hopefully the new raid is more fun. I don't like the new economy either

No one is sure what the new gear will be like, but a sunsinger warlock with ram helmet was the tankiest thing in the game before today.

So what's the consensus, is the expansion worth 40 bucks?

Well it does of course depends on how much 40 bucks is to you. I feel a lot of games give more content for 40 bucks. But if you are going to do raid and everything in the expansion it is worth it IMO.
The expansion and 2.0 really does make Destiny a better game than it was before.

So far so good. I can say I'm a convert after being royally pissed off by their initial reveal and pricing scheme.

I still think $40 is too much for the standalone expansion, but I appreciate how they rolled out the welcome mat for Year One players who have been there since day one. We did get some very awesome swag that new players won't get. So I feel like they made up for the clusterfuck that was the initial reveal and pricing of content.

The content that is there is overwhelming; TTK story missions aside. New cutscenes actually feel like they serve a purpose, showcase some genuinely good writing, and give these characters a personality (fucking finally).

It's expensive ($30 has always been the standard and I don't see why it should be any different here), but it does breathe life into Destiny. I was already "pot committed" with the Digital Guardian edition, so I'm glad this proved to be a worthy add-on. The premium is a steep price to pay, but I'm going to get a lot out of it, I'd imagine.

Edit: Plus, Bungie was making it rain for me last night. I had a legendary special weapon engram that decrypted into the 4th Horseman, year 2 edition and already have three legendary armor pieces for year two.
