Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

So I already own Destiny via disc.

If I buy the digital add-ons Expansion 1 & 2 for $34.99 and The Taken King for $39.99 that ends up being like $75 bucks.

If I buy the legendary edition it includes the original, all expansions and The Taken King, so it's actually cheaper.

But if I buy the legendary edition, can I still use all my characters from the disc version of the game I already own?

The Nightstalker Hunter quest was well done from a story perspective.. Shame that it uses recycled areas. Oh destiny.

I thought it was perfect for what it was, a way to get you the new subclass asap and a tutorial to play with it before heading back to TTK line.

I don't know how to feel about the new Legendary Marks setup. It seems like we've gone from a weekly hard cap to a daily hard cap......which requires much more frequent play. It feels kinda like false advertising for them to say they did away with the cap on marks when there's very much a functional cap, given that you can only do one daily per account.

Is there any way to get as many marks as you want in a day? Or am I stuck logging in every single day just to do the Crucible and Daily Heroic?

Yes. Your characters (and everything else) are bound to your PSN/XBL account and stored online. As long as you are playing on a console with this account, you will find everything as you left it.

GameStop will give you $20 for original Destiny towards $60 Taken Kind full package. So $40

Played some of the Dark Below and House of Wolves strikes. Had fun. I appreciate that they had a system for leveling up a character to 25 as well. I look forward to digging into TTK's campaign now.

Is the old content able to be played at a higher difficulty level at some point?

I ask because I feel like only being able to play 1/4 of everything Destiny has to offer in a rinse and repeat fashion will get incredibly old very quickly.

Only if you reach above a certain light level, which is only achievable in TTK

It's too early for a thread, but I think it's worth discussing nonetheless; how do you think the structure of TTK is an indication of things to come for year two's DLC? TDB and HoW got flak for being somewhat lacking in content, but I feel like we're going to get much meatier DLC this year due to some of the overall improvements in TTK (like cutscenes, actual questlines, etc) combined with Bungie finally hitting their stride.
Im worried they blew their financial load on TTK and we wont get any... it still weirds me out that this released with no word of a Season /Year 2 Pass... it would have been smart to offer bundle options, IMO...

So no one knows the answer to my question about achievements? Probably not a lot of Xbox folks in here anyway, but I hoped at least one person might know.

Question directed at achievement hunters that have played both the 360 and the XB1 version:

The original 1k Gamerscore (and presumably trophies too?) unlocked across both versions (360 to XB1 or the other direction as well) if you'd met the requirement in the other. Can anyone confirm if this is the case on TTK's achievements? Obviously this would require you to play one version and then redbox the disc for the other version just to load the game and see if the achievements you earned unlock for the alternate version.

I don't want to buy the DLC twice, so unless the achs unlock on both with only buying the DLC for one of them, I'm going to wait until it's 50% off (if it ever is) so that I don't pay more than $40 for the completion on both versions.

What is the best way to get caught up on the story? I played the first mission of TTK and it was pretty good but I have no idea what is going on even though i'm level 29 because the story was insignificant before.

S'cuse my naivete-and this rant, just found out I cant get past lv34 without TTK expansion. Was hoping to wait till it gets cheaper b4 i get it. So if I cant level progress without buying all the dlc, destiny becomes pretty redundant and I have lost all motivation to carry on :/
Well, time to dive into my backlog. Gona start with Bloodborne.

all your characters are saved on bungie's servers, not your system.

So trade in for the legendary edition.

If I understand what I read correctly, I level up Gunsmith rep by testing weapons for him. But that apparently does not cost any glimmer. I also bought a weapon from him to see if that increases the rep, but it does not.

Regarding factions, I could not find how to use glimmer for faction rep.

Once you reach level 1 rep, you can put in an Armsday order, which is 1,500 glimmer, IIRC. You can get to level 3 and order up to three weapons each week - per character. It might get expensive, though it will take a few weeks to get there.

Someone please tell me, as a vanilla player, should I use the level 25 boost now or save it for another character? It's in my inventory already, do those items transfer to other characters? I do kind of want to run through the vanilla content so at least I know the names, the enemies, and generally learn how to play well. But I don't want to be bored grinding stuff. Thoughts?

I recommend you put it in your vault and use it for another character later. (All your characters share the same vault.)

Not sure because I'm on PlayStation and for the PS3 and PS4 there is only one trophy list share between the two consoles. So there's no such thing as a separate list to unlock trophies for each console.

Hey the library was pretty good, let's make another one of those levels. /Bungie

Why dis dreadnaught so confusing.

Some of the missions are such a fantastic step forward.
They really took the criticisms to heart or finally had time to implement their vision. Either way this is exactly what I was hoping for.

If they bothered to make an animation for each class for all the new dances, why limit them to one class? That's dumb.

God this Crucible bounty is a test of willpower. First game i played tonight I got an incredibly lucky 9 killstreak and bumped it up to 55% next 5 games I stay around that area. Last game I was able to bump it up to 75%. Going to try and finish it tomorrow. Thankfully I seem to be good enough that it just fluctuates a bit before I get a good game in.

So... how do I earn marks? I don't seem to be getting any from Crucible matches.
Daily heroic mission and daily crucible give you 15 marks each. The weekly heroic strike gives you 10 marks but can be ran 3 times. Some quest give you legendary marks as rewards and you can get 3-5 marks for dismantling legendary gear.

Yeah, now that you mention it it is a bit weird. Maybe they're going to announce it in the next month or two? I just can't see them going a full year without any new content.

Maybe they smartened up and decided to give the mid-year expansions for free like WoW does it so as to not constantly split the player base.

Cloaks having defense kind of makes me sad. My Legend of Six Coyotes is a piece of shit now basically. They should have let us upgrade these..

played through the campaign on one character. i thought it was pretty good, but i think i'll just go through the quests maybe try the raid once (or not at all) because buying TKK made me realize that i'm sorta done with destiny. not that it's bad, i'm just sort of over it

No Taken King expansion means limited Crucible lists? wtf
Control/Clash, I can't pick Control or Clash, I can only cycle through them?
Bungie, always moving backwards while moving forward.

34 - 40 was great, quests were awesome. But this fucking currency system is trash. I'm not really into playing crucible for a chance at some type of reward or currency.

So close.

We are getting more DLC for Destiny 1 for sure. I think Destiny 2 is a 2017 title now and plans changed
This would be very interesting. Do you think if they did this it would mean they'd still do 5 games but into the 2020s, or still stop at the date on the old contract and do less full games?

What I'm really most curious about at this point is how they handle planets. Assuming we get 4-5 planets in Destiny 2, and, that must mean we're going to leave our solar system at some point. That is what I'm most looking forward too. I feel like that'll almost be a soft reboot for the lore, assuming that there's more races than just the ones we currently know. It'd be a great opportunity to add a ton more to the current Destiny universe.
