Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

YEAAAAH

Finally competed the first part of the Chaperone crucible bounty! Did it cheaply at the end but I'm incredibly satisfied I did most of the way there through skill and luck.

What role does light level play? Does it still gate high level content?

It should, btw.

It blocks activities based on your light level (240 daily, 260 heroic, 280 nightfall, ? raid). It's basically the same as before except more items contribute to your light. To me it seems like 20 new = 1 old. Regular levels (max 40) are pretty irrelevant.

Basically, it's pretty much the same (just a more granular scale) and I think it would be more confusing to a new player.

I have so many quests after beating the story I have no idea what to do with myself and them

This was me last night. The game gives you about 30 seconds of satisfaction / respite, and then quests just pile up, onto the second page of the log. I had a long moment of paralysis trying to decide what to do.

I took someone's advice and started hitting the new strikes one by one. It was good advice.

i didnt know that. so it's basically the same thing as before, and it's even more confusing.

Anyone want to do the re-Vault of Glass mission with me? Just starting, but it would be infinitely more fun with a teammate or two. PSN is V1ctIm.

Hm, constantly have a Taken King mission icon above the tower (map). Can't find anything that it leads to. I've finished the core-quests, doing various side ones but no idea how to resolve this!
I have the same problem. I have tried talking to everyone. It has been like that since last night for me.

thats what I did, I tried the vault of glass one and I got smashed, and was like "i'll do this with a friend later"

So I did the strike that involves Rasputin.....so damn refreshing to see all these different elements...

Having to dodge stuff, the last room is like a death trap, just very very refreshing

Finally bit on this one. Seems like this is the best time to start with this. Anyone know how long it'll take to get through regular story and about what level it would get me to? Also is there any value in trying to play with higher level people or do I need to play catch up (or can I even play with higher level players)?

Does Focused Light boost the XP you get when you turn in bounties? Might just pop mine when I have 16 bounties to turn in

Yes, insta 40 day one here

5-7 Hours for original Vanilla story should be level 20, 2-3 hours for Dark Below Story, 2-3 hours for House of Wolves Story, 3-5 hours for TTK Story. TTK can be started at level 25. It will be faster to have people jump in and help damage certain bosses, but the whole story can be soloed just fine. It might even be faster as you can skip all the enemies easier when you don't have to worry about others.

Got my first exotic. Killed a random enemy in the Cosmodrome and it dropped a legendary engram which turned into an exotic fusion rifle called Telestro. It's level 290, which helped boost me closer to 260. I want to start doing heroic strikes.

I havent followed this at all but the hype made want to play Destiny.
Logged on today for the first time in 9 months and was having fun playing some Strike Missions I never did.

My friend talked me through the PSN store and how to buy Taken King...

So I have to pay 60 dollars and re-buy Destiny.
Or buy a Season pass for 35 dollars and then buy Taken King for 40 dollars.
Or (if I had hypothetically bought one expansion) pay 20 dollars for the to other expansion and then 40 dollars for Taken King.

If Im wrong, correct me. If Im right those are some hoops you need to jump through.

Also, if Im right..
Not Gonna Be Able To Do It

If you have ta disc based version Gamestop is letting you trade it towards the $60 version for $20, if not, yeah, those are your only options.

If I am only level 12 in the original game is it worth just starting over. I think I made it to Mars, completed the earth and moon missions. Just wondering with the new voice over did they change anything else early on? Figuring if there are some changes and only being level 12 or so it might be worth just starting over? What do you guys think?

hmm... just got everything downloaded and installed. booted the game and signed in with my level 26 character. there are markers for house of wolves and taken king missions, but nothing for the first expansion, the dark below. anyone know why that would be?

Check the kiosk in the back of the Vanguard room, for Abandoned Quests. It might be on there.

Not outside of the redbull thingy, or the spark of light for buying the Taken King, that I'm aware of.

You'll level pretty fast, though.

I ended up getting the PS4 bundle. I'll keep an eye out for this spark of light. I suspect it's something I obtain as I play?

I just got the taken king plus the first two expansions. I haven't played Destiny since December before the first expansion came out, and was wondering where do I start? Should I start with the first expansion or jump straight into taken king?

Jump in with the level 25 thing if you need it then do Crota and HoW. It's brilliant.

You'll have an icon directing you to collect something from the postmaster; it will be there when you start. It will level one new character straight to level 25, which is the starting level for the Taken King campaign, and provide a set of decent starting gear for that level (but not level the subclass). One per account, so if you start another character they need to go through from 1-40.

How do you activate the redbull thingy? I only entered in one code have no idea what happened with it

No idea. I think you get some kind of item, I'm guessing from the postmaster, but I never used one, sorry.

Assuming I've never played Destiny before, is it worth skipping the Spark of Light on my first character to see the content from 1-25 and to learn the game?

Started a new character from scratch, Titan, not using the lev 25 crystal. The new quest tracking system makes a big difference for the flow of vanilla destiny. There's actually some amount of context to what you are doing and he overall flow is far smoother with your goal always being clear. Kudos Bungie for the improvement. There's only so much they could do with with what they had but this is a good band-aid.

I have a lvl 19 Titan from the launch month last year that I loaded up last night. (I'm leveling a warlock from scratch to see what 2.0 has done)

When I went to the Hall of Guardians to the Abandoned quests post with the Titan, there was the starting quests from the first one of getting a ship, etc. It appears I can progress along the initial quests for some reason even though I've done them all with this char already.

Google isn't bringing anything back, anyone else see this? Will this hamper me picking up with the Titan and keeping on playing?
