Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Court of Oryx is awesome.

Just need the Antiquated Rune summon to finish off that Eris quest, but I don't know how to get it. I bet that one will be ridiculous.

There has been no mention of future DLC as of now. But I would assume it's safe to think there will be 2 "expansions" like vanilla Destiny.

Thanks. If there are big expansions in the future I might try looking for an american copy of the game because my region's PSN store is really expensive. Plus sometimes they don't have all the dlc.

Bumping my question.

We actually don't have much to go on. Bungie's been very quiet regarding any form of Year 2 expansion pass and the like.

I remember reading some rumors that went around before TTK's release about Bungie wanting to have future DLC essentially be free updates. It seems like they're still sorting out where they want to take this between now and whatever next year's Fall offering will be.

The prominence of Nathan Fillion in TTK is delightful.

"Get...your ball...off my map."

And though the Nightstalker quest story was a bit cliched, he executed his part so well it didn't matter.

I own digital Destiny with both expansions and the Taken King itself costs $40? Is there really enough content to justify that price?

I sorta felt ripped off by the past two expansions.

More than enough if you are into repeating end-game content. If you just want to play every story mission and strike once, it might not be worth it.

Stormcaller is fucking amazing.

Yeah a guy I played with is using Stormcalller and it is pretty awesome. It was the first subclass I unlocked but it seems everyone I play with is going Stormcaller so I have to switch it up.
Yep, total game changer from a gear progression standpoint.

I am enjoying the Nightstalker, but am still getting used to it. I'm finding the tether is pretty versatile: I use it to bind door ways, groups of enemies I want to shotgun (or rocket), as a get out of jail card when I'm in over my head, and to kill or damage large number of mid to lower level enemies. There are quite a few perks I want to unlock for me to really evaluate it. (I should note I only have played PvE.)

One aspect of the bow I need to work on mastering: it's the only super with really long range. I've over shot targets by a good 50 yards or more (in the case of one wizard I missed, it went so far into the map I barely saw it land, but it did). When I get that under control it's going to feel great to nail targets from long range, sight unseen, then barrel in for the clean up.

I miss being invisible, though. I think there's a smoke perk along those lines?

Yeah the smoke grenade can turn and you and allies invisible if you step into it. Im also looking to use this class mainly in PvE. GG/BD seem to be the undisputed class for PvP for hunters. Although the Keen Scout perk looks like it could be pretty useful for Trials/3v3 modes.

My legendary edition showed up yesterday. Never played Destiny before except for the very first free demo mission of finding your first ship.

Feels a bit overwhelming to be honest in terms of what exactly I'm supposed to be doing. There seem to be a lot of mechanics to wrap my brain around.

The game feels incredibly similar to halo though which is a good thing I guess but the whole MMO aspect of it is something I'm having to get used to. Some random lvl 40 guy was in my world helping shoot guys and then he ran away right before I fought that boss that had the warp drive for my ship and then it happened again (dude helping me and then all of a sudden, I'm on my own) for the Wizard fight in the next mission.

Also, these 2 bosses I've killed so far, I don't recall them dropping any loot or anything. In the old E3 demo/reveal, when they killed that boss, they both got cool weapons and I haven't gotten any... just 2 pieces of average (at best) gear in the mission summary screen. Is this right?

I got a lot of Wiki reading to do apparently but it's fun.

it's incredible at clearing rooms of enemies. Can't wait to get the blink ability - I feel like it'd be essential both offensively and defensively, because you kill dudes so fast you need to be able to get to more dudes.

Haven't used it in PVP yet and I won't until I get a few more levels in it. I don't really like Nova Bomb or Radiance all that much in PVP so it's more of a 'will I miss Blink?' question. Curious what the best grenade is too, the thunderstorm grenade is pretty great in PVE but those enemies like to stand around.

But still, when I 'get serious' I don't see anything beating PVE Sunsinger. Fireborn and fusion grenades are just too good. But maybe being able to just completely reset the battlefield with Stormtrance might actually be more useful in some situations - getting overrun in Prison of Elders for example. But even then, you'd be crazy not to want Fireborn for Skolas.

I just purchased TTK dlc and my PS4 is having serious trouble trying to download the update. I already downloaded the 17 gig update a few days ago. Is anyone else having trouble or is it just the servers? Its taking longer to prepare than anything ive ever downloaded before.

NVM, it finally went through.

Are you stuck on "preparing to download"?

That means you're almost all set. The "preparing to download" it is checking the integrity of the big patch you already downloaded and then it will just download one last little piece. I was stuck on Prepare for like ten minutes then it did the actual download real fast.

Did you kill the evil crystal? If so that's the end. Well the omnigul strike is the end as well.

No, I think he means there are no more errands to run for what's her face. At the bottom where there used to be bounties, it's just empty.

No way to increase your rank with her anymore.

It does the same thing to me with the lady at the reef. I can see my rank and the rewards but there aren't any bounties to take on.

Yeah, had the same problem. The download was preparing for like 15 minutes, the 80 MB Patch still needed like 20 minutes to finish.

Sometimes you just have to love the PSN.

Nice. Haven't tried the Court yet. Just finished up the story last night before going to bed. What's a good light level for the Court? I think I'm 236 right now.

230 is ok for the first level we were 240 and tried the second. It spawned a shielded oger and 3 ultra wizards. We got close but ran out of time. I'm 260+ now so it shouldn't be a problem tonight.

Played the Taken version of Cerberus Vae III today. My strike mates were randoms and tried to treat it like the old version of the strike.

This meant most of the strike was solo'd by me and the other two guys were constantly trying to speed run, only to find out there was a new/different objective they had to come to and actually help me.

Also, holy crap at that mid-boss. That thing was a beast:
Instead of a Tank, there is a giant stealth Taken Gate Lord. With tons of Blights all around. Was crazy challenging.

Wait, I thought it was only the Playstation-exclusive strikes that were re-released with revamp alongside their originals.

So is the old Cerberus Vae III gone?

I did that fight last night. Was really cool.
The Gatelord felt super different and a nice change of pace from the pretty boring way the tank fight usually goes.

I hope the other remixed Strikes are that interesting.

I forgot how completely confused I am by absolutely fucking everything in this game.
Yeah. I asked a hardcore Destiny buddy of mine about the changes to light - aside from the fact that it applies to more than just armor pieces now - and by the end of that conversation we were both hopelessly confused ;p

Going to give him a few days and then ask again :)

Rahool is back and better than ever!

Just got my first Year 2 Exotic weapon from him, forgot to take up the name and just shut down PS4 but it's basically the needle weapon Covenant in Halo use, in fusion rifle form.
I love it. 290 damage and all, so I guess the exotics from Rahool have better damage than the ones you can buy from the monitor?

One thing that took me a long time to wrap my head around was the transitions between public and private spaces. When on a story mission, you'll often start, or pass through, public spaces where other players are roaming. That's when you ran into the level 40 guys. Typically when you transition into a 'darkness zone', and sometimes before, you have forked off into your own game where only you and anyone in your fire team will be. When in public spaces, even when on a mission, you can wander around, gather materials or chests, and participate in public events (though things will be a little rough when you are low level).

As for loot drops, they were showing a mocked up example of a pretty high level fight, and when the game came out loot drops were far stingier. Loot acquisition has also changed a lot since then: For a lot of the early quest lines, you'll get your gear as rewards for completing quest steps when you turn them in at the Tower; you'll get the rest from the Gunsmith or from engrams. With Taken King, it's the closest it's been to what they showed at that E3 reveal; for instance I helped take down a strike boss last night, who literally dropped a bunch of loot that turned out to be great gear for my character. But the loot mix has shifted to a lot of dedicated loot streams via quests, vs. mostly random.

I imagine Destiny is pretty overwhelming right now for people stepping into it fresh. What's nice about the current leveling system is, anything you do will progress you. If you want to keep doing story missions, keep doing them. If you want to take a break and do patrols, or Crucible, or work on bounties, or side quests, do those things. It will all advance your level and get you toward the later part of the game. At level 25 you'll open up the Taken King content.

Wait, I thought it was only the Playstation-exclusive strikes that were re-released with revamp alongside their originals.

So is the old Cerberus Vae III gone?

Nope, old one is still there as an option.

All the Mars strikes got "Taken Versions". The Taken versions did no replace the old versions, but are merely an alternative.

Honestly, I'm not really liking Nightstalker so far, but to be fair I don't have it fully upgraded yet so I can't speak authoritatively. But so far, specifically in PVP, I'm having trouble figuring out optimal ways to use the first two grenades, the smoke "melee," and the super. It's a big change from the guaranteed kill of a perfect sticky or throwing knife to the face, or a guaranteed three/four shots with golden gun.

Damn, Hunters getting no love again? I haven't had a chance to use Nightstalker yet, but the Titan and Warlock supers look way more useful (and fun). Hunters are awesome, but the lame armor and okay subclasses (especially for high end PVE) is frustrating.

I've posted scattered thoughts in the other thread and wont be writing any kind of review until I understand the new systems. But my impressions so far is that the game goes downhill after the main story completes and I have not enjoyed my time with it since.

I think it's way worse than the original grind. Before I could do whatever I want and hope to luck into drops. It wasn't ideal by any means, but it was obvious to me when I was getting more powerful.

Now I'm being thrown junk weapons and junk armor with ridiculously underwhelming stats and I'm forced to wear them to level up in order to complete all of my quests. Because those are now what is standing in the way.

Perhaps it will be better i the long run. I'm not playing the game anymore than I usually do, but it feels unnecessarily convoluted to me right now.

Or maybe you're expecting too much from a 24 hour period?

I admit I've only played a day and I've been lucky enough to end up around LL257. I was lucky enough to be gifted almost all my gear from Dead Orbit though. They were nice enough to give me an AR, Shotgun, Fusion, Rocket, Ghost, Gloves, Boots, and Titan Mark.

Either way though, the new system is built in a way to keep offering you rewards. If you are at LL150, then every piece of gear you get is going to be ATK/DEF 155-180. If you are LL220, then you're going ot get ATK/DEF 225-250, and so on.

Thus, you will progress no matter how you play the game.

LOL, of course Keen Scout works in PvP. I was wondering what the point of it was.

Hunters still the best.
I think it only works for you though. If you are on my team and tag somebody, I can't see the tag.
