5 takes place between 2 and 3 so yeah a sequel. The gap is more or less 100 years between 2 and 3. All stories are standalone and you don't need to know the stories of all SO games.

Sakuraba is legendary for his rate of output.

Wow. Never thought I'd see them beat out Resonance of Fate's OST with how large the disc span is. Here's hoping it's Sakuraba on fine form, but judging from the music I've heard from the trailers so far, it is. The dude always seems to make the extra effort on Tri-Ace's games.

Yeah. Sakuraba is inconsistent but it's mostly due to him being as prolific as he is. Couple that with some interviews such as that infamous one about him saying they told him to tone it down for their OST and that he spreads himself thin and it makes sense that sometimes his shit can be samey and just sorta meh.

When he is on it is on like motherfucking Donkey Kong and there are few people that can match him. His Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile soundtracks are absolutely brilliant. I have the live concert CD of a best of those two series and it far and away blows almost any RPG soundtrack out of the water that I can think of.

Also as someone who has SO2 in their top 5 games of all time, the PSP remake was better. The old one is amusing for the awful localized voices but the art wasn't startlingly better or anything. They were about even for the most part. New localization was way better.

Also witch girl is da bess. Never leave my party (because you use every party member all the time).

There was a quote from the director talking about so4 and how they kind of tried to make it with more western appeal and they felt they got burned by the experiment. I disagree as they obviously weren't doing it well and there is a good way to do it... But it's unlikely that they are taking it as seriously as they might otherwise have been.

Personally I can't stand stuff like the witch costume and think it's an awful idea that may keep many from playing the game. If they wanted say an extra half million in sales they could have done it with some reasonable tweaks.

Not just the witch costume, but a lot of the pervy stuff in the game, as well as much of the loli stuff in the game and some of the gaudiness.

It's Camelot Software Planning, they never announced the composer in advance, they still never used a composer different from Sakuraba. I don't think that will change as long as Masaaki Uno (who originally recruited Sakuraba to do VGM for Wolfteam back in 1989) is coordinator and sound director there.

There's so bad it's funny and then there's so bad people find the "cute" characters legitimately creepy and disturbing, or so annoying they literally can't stand to listen to them without hitting the mute button. Although that's more a combination of the writing, character design and voice acting all being terrible. Chaos Wars's voice acting makes me want to try the game. SO4's voice acting turns me off a good game gameplay-wise.

I couldn't ask for anything more. Quite tired of series completely changing direction for new appeal. Stick to what made it successful in the first place.

I don't think SO4's voice acting was that bad, 'kay? It was bad but not unlistenable. I plopped a good 140 hours on the 360 version and never turned the voices off, something i've had to do with other games.

I don't go into every jrpg and expect NiER tier dubbing.

I still think it's nice that we're getting another central protagonist, like Yuri, who is in his twenties instead of yet another teenage discovery adventure. I'm not against them, but there's a bit too many of those.
