It seems no one mentioned but they actually showed an extended trailer at the first event.
You can see battle scenes with the blue haired dude, a new area (very futuristic looking) and a scene at the end with a new character (looks like a villain).
It starts at 14:25

Oh hey, Akiman is the guy who did thisShould be Akiman
Probably a Fellpool or similar new raceSo... is she (the witch) human?
I mean she's got a checkerboard dress, a tail, wings, her hair looks like candy, and she seems exceptionally proficient in magic. Also she looks so out of place in this, you'd almost think she was shopped in.
In what way are they limiting exploring? If you base this on something in the demo footage, that's probably just them adding some limitations to the demo that won't necessarily be there in the final game? Or have they said something about limiting exploration?I honestly don't care about costume design. What has me worried is actual exploration. Seems like you're limited on exploring and that you can only go to certain places.
The biggest problem is almost the fact that the rest of the game DOES seem non-ridiculous & fairly practical (I'm sure there will be some silly stuff, but overall the vibe of what we've seen so far of the game is pretty serious), so her horribly non-sensical, ridiculous & unpractical outfit just stands out that much more and is especially jarring. It's not that games like Star Ocean 5 need to be completely devoid of sexy, but I think there are less horrible ways of executing sexy & sexual characters. Her clothes are just plain non-sensical & dumb. They don't make sense in any context or look like anything anyone would ever wear anywhere (even in outlandish fantasy or scifi settings).I am not really fan of the Witch's outfit either, its too ridiculous and not practical (lol like it matters in games like this). As others have said, there are ways to make sexy look stylish, and thats not an example of that. Having said that, I would be more ok with it if there weren't a tail and wings in the back. Like, why. Otherwise the rest of the group looks good.

Star ocean 4 needs a remaster. This is iq is booty.
Is that really a race? Sounds more like a class description. She's a Spellmark Mage according to the TGS description. Miki is one as well.

Yep.so, does the green witch really show skin or it's just skin color bodysuit?
But in that big area, how much of the stuff we see can we actually go to? I'm not going to let it ruin my experience. Just a question I have now. I shouldn't say I'm worried because I'm not. It's just a wish I'd like to be able to see. Have those open areas.

You might as well just assume that SO4 doesn't exist since the producer of SO5 has already dumped on it. And he was the producer of that game as well, which makes it even more damning.

I don't care about story.![]()
Playing for that sweet, sweet gameplay.
Question: In the last Star Ocean, one of the things you did for the American version was change the faces of some of the characters to be more realistic in the localization. Are you planning on any changes like that for Star Ocean V?
Shuichi: In SO3, for example, visually it was quite highly acclaimed. People liked the typical JRPG visual direction. For Star Ocean V, we dont want to make it halfway toward a game specifically formulated for Western fans. If we wanted to do that, wed do that all the way. We dont want to do it halfway. Thats not the right tactic to use. Rather than returning it so that western gamers like it more, wed like to just pursue what we think is right, pursue our creative concept and express our imagination. Well see if that works for western gamers as well as Japanese. You can take a look at the poster. Thats the visual direction we set out to pursue and we want to stick with it. We dont want to derail that or make changes or explore different possibilities. We want to stick to what we think is the best for this production. To be frank with you, in Star Ocean IV, we did exactly that. We wanted to give the visual element which we believed would be appealing to western gamers, and it didnt really work for either western or Japanese fans. It was a bit of a muddle, really. We dont want to repeat that. We just want to establish our image and stick with it.
Question: You were very frank before about Star Ocean IV, and I wanted to ask more about that. Is there anything else you learned from Star Ocean IV that you want to change this time around, lessons learned that youd like to apply?
Shuichi: As you may know, Star Oceans 1, 2, and 3 were a kind of trilogy, if you like. That was over. When they started making 4, they didnt continue to take on the same attitude about development. The feel of the game was slightly different, and the way they produced the story was different as well. I was the producer for four, and looking at it, there was something not really right. Something didnt really click. I knew some things werent in the right places. When we were making Star Ocean IV, when it comes to the visual aspect, it was part of Square Enixs business strategy at that time. In those years, the company was really keen to expand their business in the west. There was a general idea that we should make sure our games had global appeal, not just Japanese appeal. That made things very complicated, really. We used outsourcing companies to establish the story, not just Tri-Ace. Our mission back then was to expand the universe, rather than sticking to what wed already created. We derailed a bit from the main plot, which was another issue we had. We learned a lesson from that experience. In Star Ocean V, wed like to bring back the attitude we had in the first three games. Our priority is going to be to push out a very tri-Ace creative direction. Thats our main pillar and well stick with it. Story-wise and visual-wise, number five is going to have the feel of a direct sequel to Star Oceans one, two, and three. Itll be very different from Star Ocean IV.
I'm fine with them throwing SO4 under the bus. I don't think anyone will be sad that a bus ran it over. Not even the most hardcore of SO fans will defend 4 much outside of its game mechanics.
They just seem to want to forget that SO4 even existed, and they've been marketing SO5 off the idea that it's not like that game. SO4 in general just seemed like a bad time for them based on what's been said in interviews, so it's not surprising that they want to distance themselves from it.

The entire thread when this game releases is going to be filled with people complaining about with girl isn't it. Soooo many years worth of jrpg designs you'd think people would jus politely b use to it by now or jus dont play it by now.
And to the people saying its characters like her that makes it hard to play games like this around people i find that incredibly sad, if you're that self conscious on what people think or your friends and family cant accept what u play thats unfortunate and this is coming from a guy who just earlier was playing an import of estival versus while my fiancé stood there yelling at me to play better(i suck)
The girl with green hair interests me. I'd love a fighter similar to Nel from SO3.
That's fine. Doesn't change that the iq and framerate are booty and I'd like a remaster.![]()

As a Star Ocean fan and regarding SO4, I was fine with:
- Gameplay, it's probably my favorite SO gameplay
- Graphics, though not the best they still looked great for that time (2009-2010).
- Soundtrack especially Worlds Yet Unexplored (SO theme in orchestra): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6fJqwWZBVc
The story was very average. Some find it offensive but I was neutral about it. Average at best.
What I didn't like are:
- The strange creation system
- Voices and characters were cringeworthy
- Lack of savepoints
- Worlds were too large and empty at the same time
SO4 was a franchise killer
who'd really want to touch it?

The callbacks to Roak and Energy Nede were cool in general.Oh yeah, the music was pretty fantastic. I don't think I really hear anyone knock the music. I loved the multiple battle themes across the planets, that was a nice touch. Having some of the old themes remixed was really cool too.

This will be my first Star Ocean game, and I have no idea of what to expect, other than it being a JRPG but I am excited nonetheless.
He wasn't. SO5 is Kobayashi's first game as a producer, he was in PR before. SO4 was the last game by long time Enix producer Yamagishi, and with him gone nobody else at Square Enix asked tri-Ace to do more games (until Kobayashi successfully changed his dept). You might as well just assume that SO4 doesn't exist since the producer of SO5 has already dumped on it. And he was the producer of that game as well, which makes it even more damning.
On amazon UK the game is up for £34 might be a mistake since most new games on amazon uk cost £40 - £45

"Miki Sauvester (voiced by Nao Toyama)
Keyword: Healing
A girl who grew up with Fidel as his childhood friend. Because of the difference in their ages, and the fact that they were brought up as siblings, Miki loves Fidel like an older brother. In her village of Stahr, she is a Spellmark Mage with a rare healing ability."
Any of you seen these official character descriptions?
It's like they were created through a generic JRPG generator with shit that make me cringe like:
I mean of course she's the MC's childhood friend. Of course she loves him "as a brother" only. Of course she won't have repressed hidden feelings for the MC that may or may not last 60 to 70 hours of endless "will they won't they" angst that will go nowhere. And of course she's the party's healer because obviously she couldn't be the tank or the damage dealer because childhood friend rules don't permit it.
Older badass who's all business? Check.
Sexy chick with extravagant clothes? Check.
Token kid? You're goddamn right they're checking that box too! And she sees Miki as a mother to boot! You can't make this shit up I swear. And Miki, who I'm sure is not a year older than 19 at most, is a "mother" figure to a 10 year old. Fantastic!
Look, this game looks and sounds swell. I like what I've seen of the world, graphics, music, and gameplay so I'll keep an eye on it but goddamn these characters are so fucking generic and blatantly pandering to the otaku demographic that it turns me off.
I'll be happy to eat my hat but I'm calling it right fucking now: Miki will show at some point in the game affection towards the MC that's not sister-like. I'll be ecstatic to be proven wrong but at this point no love emanating from the childhood friend towards Fidel would be the surprise.

They need to dumpster fire SO3 too.
Just straight out and say it isn't cannon.
Agree with story, but the rest was good with SO3.
There's nothing wrong with the story or the characters(nel is best girl). If we're talking about the 'twist', that's easily fixed/retconned. Parallel dimensions yo
They are using SO3 as a basis for SO5, and SO3 is the most important to the director in the series, so anyone's beef with SO3 will have to be overruled
