[TGS] Star Ocean 5 stage event stream from S-E booth

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
The twist is easily ignored in all prequel games, which this one is. Setting it between SO2 and SO3 was a good idea.

Ok? Its not like this wasnt in your face obvious before.

That is depressingly true but I tried to see it as a glass half full trying to not judge a book by its cover.

Sure they looked generic and tropy-as-fuck but I had hope they could surprise us with unique personalities and interesting characters with deep personalities despite their superficial look.

It appears I hoped for too much.

You can't parallel a dimension when all dimensions will always be a lesser form that can be deleted by you-know-who.

You can if the writers say so :p

You've said as much multiple times in multiple threads about this game. Get used to it.

smh @ the hate for witch girl, you will feel ashamed of your words & deeds once you recognize the secret reason for her chessboard outfit.

They need to dumpster fire SO3 too.
Just straight out and say it isn't cannon.

SO3 is the best game in the series, people really hate on it due to that twist when the story for most SO's at mediocre at best anyway. They don't even have to go past the point of SO3 anyway...

Really hope they make SO3 HD one day... won't happen but still... wonder if my PS2 still works...

Any of you seen these official character descriptions?

It's like they were created through a generic JRPG generator with shit that make me cringe like:

I mean of course she's the MC's childhood friend. Of course she loves him "as a brother" only. Of course she won't have repressed hidden feelings for the MC that may or may not last 60 to 70 hours of endless "will they won't they" angst that will go nowhere. And of course she's the party's healer because obviously she couldn't be the tank or the damage dealer because childhood friend rules don't permit it.

Older badass who's all business? Check.

Sexy chick with extravagant clothes? Check.

Token kid? You're goddamn right they're checking that box too! And she sees Miki as a mother to boot! You can't make this shit up I swear. And Miki, who I'm sure is not a year older than 19 at most, is a "mother" figure to a 10 year old. Fantastic!

Look, this game looks and sounds swell. I like what I've seen of the world, graphics, music, and gameplay so I'll keep an eye on it but goddamn these characters are so fucking generic and blatantly pandering to the otaku demographic that it turns me off.

I'll be happy to eat my hat but I'm calling it right fucking now: Miki will show at some point in the game affection towards the MC that's not sister-like. I'll be ecstatic to be proven wrong but at this point no love emanating from the childhood friend towards Fidel would be the surprise.

I blame the translation for the cringe. But you have to admit, wearing revealing clothes to show off dem runes is a new one and credit should be given where it's due.

Just like how Fayt and Sophia were childhood friends in SO3 and even with a perfect match up during the private actions everything ended on a platonic note.

Yeah it's just looks like you're looking for something because "LOL Anime tropes"

Like earlier in the thread when someone tried to point out the 30+ year old Blue Hair guy would act like he's ready for a retirement home character trope, yet again SO3 had a character that was 58 Years old and acted nothing like this.

A reminder that SO5 is taking more so from SO3 then the previous game in the series.

Just because Star Ocean has always used specific anime tropings doesn't mean it uses them to an exaggerated level for maximum cliche.

Well Celine has Runes in SO2 for the same reason, same as Nel in SO3. So I really don't buy the description, but I suppose they need to handwave it in some fashion. Not really a big deal to me though.

I mean there was nothing preventing her having an outfit with legs revealed but her not top exposed as it is. (Like Celine and Nel for example) It would serve the same purpose and fit the description of why she's showing her Heraldry Marks / Runology / Spellmark glyphs.

Rena/Dias had the brother/sister relationship in SO2 and it was actually very endearing and not overplayed at all

Ralemont

not me
It's also possible they are bringing back multiple endings if they really want to sell the "not-SO4" angle. In previous games you could simply ignore tropey characters you didn't like and the MC's life played out with other people instead.
Nel is the only answer for SO3

SO3's twist wasn't even that big of a deal

I dont know how people get so angry about it. Every time someone says something like 'it invalidates everything else!' makes me confused. Like, my main #1 complaint about SO3's story isn't the twist, it's about how there's little explanation for why Luther went fucking insane.

In the Japanese version (and possibly the PSP one, which I haven't played) I agree. In the original US one we got it seemed like Rena was using it as an excuse and she really wanted to get into his pants but he said "lol no little girl". It was annoying, especially so after you find out that's not how it was supposed to be at all.

It would be nice if the Fidel/Miki relationship was legit brother/sister. Given the popularity of stuff like Lelouch/Nunnally in Code Geass over there I could see them not making it romantic (but because Japan still slightly creepy at parts). XD

Now you got me curious, what would be AAA-tier character tropes?

Muscle bro that's too stronk to feel the feels. Or in other words, this is someone who actually believes Western tropes are somehow better than Japanese tropes (because let's be honest, there is no difference in "B" or "AAA" tier Japanese tropes).
hint - they both are overused at this point and neither is better than the other.

We may get some additional details since this is one of Famitsu's featured games in this weeks issue

SO3 was the bomb.

Crazy deep combat/crafting system.
Music was fantastic as well.

Only thing I truly hated was the fact that it's a sandal-fest for the first 5 or so hours.

Why do people keep bring up chess and checkers in regards to green drills witch's costume? It's obviously a sexy take on a traditional Harlequin costume.

Looking forward to SO5, but man, 2016 is going to be a wallet buster. Hopefully SE will bring that limited edition over to North America.

Yes I did but I was talking strictly superficially before that I didn't like the look of the characters. This is the first time I read a more in depth explanation of the main party and this was the first time I expressed my disapproval of what they just revealed.

You won't see me bitching about it endlessly but I have the right to complain about this new information. And so far my opinion of the characters turned for the worse. I hate what I've seen and read so far.

As for the rest of the game it still looks good, hopefully not about to be destroyed by the weight of the main cast.

This. Heck, they could even ignore the twist if they really want to. I'd have no problem with them continuing beyond 3.

Nope. I'm not having it. Star Ocean is one of my three favorite J-RPG franchises and it's the only one capable of receiving a sequel at the moment. You will not bring me down. :p

Also, when you break characters down as far as you have, you've gone from cliches to tropes, and I'm sorry but Tropes Are Not Bad. They're just tropes. "Token kid"? Star Ocean games are known for kids. But is she gonna be Lymle (game ruining) or Leon (fuckin' awesome)? We're not sure yet.

Wait SO5 takes place between 2 and 3? I thought it was actually set after 3. Bummer.

If you want that because of 3's weird ending, not to worry--they mentioned they plan to address that.

I agree with the dude above me: tropes aren't inherently "bad". Sometimes they PISS me off (tales of are unplayable to me now), other times they are appropriate (pokemon, fire emblem).

For this game, I will wait and see.

There's a good reason, and I think I see it:

Look at her lower leg area. I think there's cling film like stuff between the squares.

Those white runes that she had carved into her leg, basically Heraldry Marks (SO2) / Runology (SO3). they are called Spell Marks in SO5. They apparently help focus with Symbology and Spell casting arts.

Celine had them in SO2

and Nel has them in SO3.

According to the character profile for Fiore Burnelli, the reason she wears that outfit is to show off the runes on her leg. Yeah okay, that explains the legs, but why does the top need to be checkerboard cutouts too?

Oh, I see. It wasn't entirely clear. That's interesting to know.

Maybe you can add more runes to her as the game progress.

@_ikenie (aka Rin) from Twitter posted a summary of some new info in this week's Famitsu issue regarding battle system, development progress and etc.
- Development is 70% complete. Battles and "dynamic cutscenes" under review.

- The entire game is seamless, in real-time, and also designed to allow for free movement. Camera and characters are player-controllable during event scenes.

- Character change is not possible in the middle of a "dynamic cutscene." Instead, there are plans for "special actions" while on the field and during cutscenes.

- Character introductions for Fidel and Miki. Fidel is a traditional character with a fast battle style and easy-to-chain combos. Miki is a healer who's better off fighting enemies from a distance.

- Fiore's outfit has to do with her sorcery abilities as well as her desire to display her strength.
While Miki is good with fire-based attacks, Fiore's strength lies in ice-based sorcery.

- Vikt can also use the same sword abilities as Fidel, but Vikt likes to cut down groups of enemies.

- Star Ocean 5 has a self-contained story and takes place in between 2 and 3.

- When asked whether player feedback from TGS will be considered for the final game, Kobayashi says that the game is near completion, and any big changes will be difficult to implement.

- Star Ocean 5 is very much a "traditional" (oudou) RPG. Kobayashi asks us to expect more news in the future.
