Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Ffs.

Just completed a crucible match and got a legendary primary weapon which was a HUGE upgrade over what I've got however my primary slots were full I had no more space.

It's been deleted hasn't it? :( Not in the postmaster either.

Yes, but I'm at the point where they are typically not better than what I have. I'm at 266 at the moment.
The attack/defense values of an engram you decrypt are determined by your current Light when decrypting them. Make sure you have your best stuff equipped at the Cryptarch and check for upgrades as you're working through a stack of engrams. You can use them both to equip and to infuse Legendaries that you like. I've seen blues above 290 already and I'm only at 285. :)
But why should you be able to use the item/buff for every strike boss you fight in a week? It should be a limited thing that is considered a bit of a gamble. The problem now is people getting too many exotics too quickly, no? The fact it's essentially an unlimited item only checked by how many strange coins you have is I'd argue the main contributor to the exploit.
The main- only, as I see it- contributor to the exploit is the rate at which they can be consumed by suciding and repeating a boss from a checkpoint. i.e.: multiple per minute.

It's clear that, exactly as you imply is the source of the problem, Bungie intended for people to have them as something they could spend as many coins as they wanted on (i.e. a sink).

That is in no way an enjoyable experience at 260.
I was doing them at 250 but I suppose so.

I know King Gothalion and crew were farming the level 36 strikes cause it was faster and they were increasing their light to the 280+ with engrams so you should be fine.

You could also do other quests or Court of Oryx for engrams

Ok DGAF. Im about to play TTK for the first time. Anybody got characters that still need to do some story missions. I have no idea where to start or what to do first...

Right, but this is exacerbated by the fact people can get a fat stack of these and keep doing it over and over. You limit the number people can get per week and it solves the problem of people endlessly farming it. Even adding a cool down will only minimize the farming, not eliminate it.

It should be at postmaster, I can't recall an item ever just vanishing like that.

For as little time as I have for this game with Forza and MGS already on my plate, I'm really enjoying it. Great content so far, I bought the collectors upgrade also because I'm part of the fucking problem. I just really wanted those shaders and exotics....goddamnit. Anyway, I did the warlock and Hunter new subclass unlock. Gonna do my Titan next and then get back to my main, the hunter to get to 40 first. Gotta say though that the new warlock subclass is so fucking entertaining. You're just goddamn emperor Palpatine, and I love that.

Am I alone with this issue? It's happened to me twice so far. Sometimes when a connection issue banner pops up, the whole screen stays black when it returns to the game. I can hear enemies and I can hear my own gunshots, but the screen is black. If I push start, I can see the usual menu system, but returning to the game gives me a black screen. I can only fix this by blindly returning to orbit.

Is there a list of Gaffers in the OP ? Can't find anything, please PM me if there is a list of PS4 Gaffers

The community thread should have a list. If you want to add me my PSN is SeraphimJulius

That goes for any other PS4 gaffer who wants to play Destiny as well! Add me so we can get gear and raid eventually!

Engrans always decrypt into things close to your current light level. So you'll always end up finding some items with higher light from engrams.

Also can't you do heroic strikes? I believe the recommended light is 260

I'm a 297 who CONSTANTLY gets 260 blue gear. The smart loot system is not working at all for me. I see people with 300 level blue items and it's ridiculous.

Can someone explain the Crucible to me? I'm using my own weapons? Is the damage adjusted? I'm only level 12 and getting bodied.
Impact is what matters. Attack value doesn't unless it's Iron Banner or Trials of Orisis
I'll do that, but there is only the Xbox list in the community OP.
Feel free to add me on ps4. Same name as my gaf name. General rule, assume it's ps4 if you are in the community thread unless it's mention xbone

Hmm... I don't really know what you mean. The loot cave was

1) Endlessly grindable without any cooldown
2) Ineffective for the average player since it was based on a misconception about the game in the first place

When you say "waiting for 10 minutes would be nothing"- as in, people would still do it, sit around for 50 out of every 60 minutes to get 6 chances at an exotic? LIke.. o-ok... that doesn't really bother me (well, it's bonkers IMO, but it doesn't see me as the kind of thing that needs to be coded around).

We're talking about the difference between one every ten minutes and ten every two minutes. See what I'm saying?

Levels? You mean strikes or what? The entire point has to be to reduce the rate of consuming the buff.

Make it One of the best things about it is that it works on enemies as disparate as unique bosses out on patrol and even vanilla story mission bosses. This makes it a tool for hunting exotics that is viable for every type of player and there's nothing wrong with that.

Limit it to working strikes only would move the abuse taking place via suiciding solo on a story boss... to suiciding in a fireteam on a Strike boss. While simultaneously locking out pretty cool stuff like the chance of getting an exotic out of a random event boss on patrol.

I mean missions and they are piss easy to solo, not to mention short. A fireteam suicide is much more difficult and impossible with matchmaking. Strikes and their bosses take longer to beat.

I'm not a fan of cooldowns. It means you can't use it for some time once you've done it once. You might end up in another boss battle inbetween. For heavy ammo I understand as its powerful stuff.

What if they just hand out the mission complete after a boss kill, no matter if you wiped or not? That, plus taking regular missions out would be the best solution imo. Play strikes for the exotic chance.

you guys did it…
you made me do something extremely stupid…

Because of you (and all those glorious "the game it should have been from the beginning yadda yadda" reviews) I went out to buy TTK for PS4 including a 1 year ps+ membership – but I don't even own a freaking PS4 :/ (and I don't want or need one in the near future)

Furthermore, I am a total idiot when it comes to playing shooters on a console. With mouse+keyboard I am an ace but DAMN I can't aim for shit when I have to do it with a stupid ass controller.

Now all I can do to somehow "enjoy" this game is play it in my lunchbreak at work on the company PS4.
GOD it's so much fun!

wtf is wrong with me?
I thought I was too old for this hype train bullshit, goddamnit

This rating system is really a mess. I got a good thousand yard stare but it only does 250. So to use it I gotta find numerous better weapons to infuse it with.

Problem is I have a raid sniper that does 305 and I'm pretty sure finding 300+ gear out in the wild is not possible so to use my thousand yard stare effectively I have to wait a long time.

Same issue with stillpiercer. I know people are just rolling with whatever they have now, but when people get more selective with the stuff that is actually good in terms of perks/stats but has a shit rating, it's gonna get fucked up.

If you must look at it as though the only use of the three of coins is farming:

The total number of attempts is not a particularly severe problem. Just like people with tons of coins can buy 30 helm engrams in search of the one they want if they have the coins, it's a sink and enabled by design.

The rate of use, the lack of any delay between uses, in combination with the ability to cheesily kill yourself alongside a boss and respawn at the same place in seconds, is a substantial problem. Because of this we're talking about not 100 attempts over the course of a week, but 100 attempts over the course of an hour. In terms of how valuable a problem it would be to fix, it's a different priority by an order of magnitude.

But more importantly a solution that limits the total number than can be used per week inexorably impacts use that has nothing at all to do with farming- I love them, as something that you just use if you've got 'em throughout regular play when you're coming up against an Ultra boss. I have no desire at all to farm Draksis- and your solution would already have prevented me from getting 1 of the total of 2 exotics I've acquired from my usage so far. that seems like a pretty dramatic side effect.

To be honest, I see this as a good way for people who did have a million coins to spend them. If they add a new item to Xur next expansion that has a 200 coin cost, it would mean that people with 1000+ coins saved are less likely to insta-buy it, at the cost of making exotics easier to get this time around.

A "better" fix would've been to replace coins with a higher currency, and allowed people to trade in coins for that (basically curbing inflation), but its a lot of extra understanding for people who play less

This update and expansion has made Destiny my favorite Bungie game since Halo 3. Pretty amazing turnaround for this game.

Really enjoying my time thus far with this thing.

Yep the gun play is just fun. I still need to do the PvP with the new update... Looks like you get 15 legendary marks for rift

I mean missions and they are piss easy to solo, not to mention short.
I.e. you should be able to, say, repeat a 2 minute mission 5 times and get the exotic chance each time? Or not? I don't get if you mean this as a point in favor of a cooldown or not.
A fireteam suicide is much more difficult and impossible with matchmaking.
A fireteam suicide is easy if everyone has rocket launchers. Yes, you'd have to group up to do the farm- essentially just limiting the portion of the playerbase with access to it...
Strikes and their bosses take longer to beat.
Mixed message again, is it okay for them to be suicide-farmed because they are harder to kill, or not?
I'm not a fan of cooldowns. It means you can't use it for some time once you've done it once.
Exactly. That's solving the problem. :P
You might end up in another boss battle inbetween.
Like on Valus Ta'aurc right now with the Taken mini-boss, or between one Shield Brother and the next. Absolutely, those scenarios are a loss. Would suck.

It's sad, because I like the idea of being able to use them in those scenarios, which are possible only for the same reason the abuse is possible. But we have to pick the solution which does the least damage.
What if they just hand out the mission complete after a boss kill, no matter if you wiped or not?
That would be great. Ideal, even, although it might move the farm to some story mission or strike with an Ultra boss in the middle of it...

But also, I'm trying to think about this in terms of their ability to implement it. Making an alteration to the consumable item itself may well be quite a bit less work than altering the completion state for missions across the board.
That, plus taking regular missions out would be the best solution imo. Play strikes for the exotic chance.
I guess I don't care about removing it from story missions if that would make people feel better about it but what about Ultras spawned on Patrol? One of my favorite things about it so far. You can't really farm them but it's exciting that any one spawned could have an exotic pop out of it.
what are strange coins for? i have like 4 of them lol
The vendor that comes on Fridays and Saturdays, Xur. He sells Exotic items :)

Thinking of playing this expansion. Last time I played was first month of launch, beat the first raid at hardest difficulty, played pvp a bit then quit.
Do I need to buy the first two dlc or are they outdated now?

Did anyone complete the Jolly Holliday quest? If so how hard is killing the cabal brothers in the dreadnought strike with the shotgun?
Is a bit hard because lots of enemies have shields but I was running defender and putting my bubble up. And you only have to do damage to the brothers with a shotgun. In none of them I got the last shot and I still got the quest done.

You need to have them in order to play the TTK expansion.

Really hating the change to marks in regards to pvp. Before you'd get a few marks each match and it felt like progression. Now it's just gone and the loot game is nowhere near as good as pve.

I agree, with all the great pve changes in ttk, crucible definitely seems to have been left behind.

Ok, I finished the beginning set of story missions and am just starting to dig into the next set of unlocked stuff.

I have to say, this expansion is really damn good. Like, way better than I thought it would be. I'm impressed.

I don't see them as only a tool for farming. I didn't farm with them at all. I bought 10 of them and used them as I'm sure was intended, when I got to a strike boss or a boss during a mission as I normally played through the TTK quests. I got one exotic drop off a Shade of Oryx in a mission (which is already out leveled by a blue helmet, my one major reservation with the new loot system).

The intended use clearly isn't to cheese Draksis over and over again, but the fact people are using the item to farm in this fashion is the issue. It's currently an item that enables and encourages farming. If you limit the number to 10 or so per week it seems to me it would mean people can't exploit it. People could still farm Draksis, but only for a total of 10 times. They wouldn't have a compelling reason to do so since it wouldn't give them a benefit over using them "normally" throughout the week.

The highest number of exotics someone could get this way is 10 per week if they were extremely lucky and got one on each pop. The least they could get is zero if they are very unlucky, but most probably someone would get at least one exotic per week using Three of Coins this way. Anymore than one per week via ToC would be lucky. That seems like a reasonable rate for exotics acquired through that method, considering all the other ways to get them between Xur, legendaries decrypting to exotic, exotic quests and regular chance to drop.

I feel like the only reason for this item is to give people the joy of seeing a yellow engram fly out of a boss for that dopamine hit, and not as the primary method of obtaining exotics quickly. I guess we just have different ideas of what the ideal usage would be for the item, or maybe we have similar ideas but different on execution.
