Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Anyone one Xbox who wants to do the Fears Embrace quest?
Good luck with that one. I'm on PS4 otherwise I'd help. I did it last night so I know first hand what an absolute bitch it can be.

Bungie should be dicks and make it the mission of the day.

Honestly I think everyone made too big a deal about the 3 of Coins thing.

A lot of people have most new Exotics. So? Some weeks from now they'd have bought them from Xur anyways. Xur sold, without exception, every single Year 1 Exotic weapon twice or more. Everyone who's been around has them. He also sold every single piece of armor (except for Ram).

My point is, Exotics aren't rare in this game, they aren't exclusive, and they often aren't even that special. Most have as-good (or better) Legendary equivalents and now that there's no re rolling, a great Legendary is arguably an even rarer and more satisfying find.

The meaningful "trophy" Exotics are those tied to some sort of quest line or skill check. Stuff like Chaperone or Touch of Malice, the 3 Gunsmith Exotics, the as yet not revealed Heavy Weapons and Boots, or even Thorn back in the day. Things that require you to complete difficult content, play in creative ways, leave your comfort zone, go out and explore.

If tomorrow everyone gets a Telesto instead of everyone slowly acquiring it over weeks of lower-chance-but-equal mechanisms, I honestly think the difference is just whatever.

Got TTK.

Most things are much improved.

Game still rings hollow, to me. Is slick, much better designed now, presentation is lovely. I don't feel any warmth for it. More a sort of zombified acceptance, punctuated sporadically with moments of great fun.

Will keep on shelf for the odd strike.

I am at the part where I pick which Sword I want to choose from Shaxx. Which sword out of the 3 would be best for a Hunter? Arc Edge, Sol Edge, Void Edge?

They're all pretty good. I went with Void so I can block incoming Solar and Arc damage + attack Void-shielded Minotaurs and Taken Wizards :)

Ultimately they're all useful.

At what tier does court of oryx start dropping purples?

Also... If there is no one else with you besides your fire team on earth when the Champions spawn..... It's tough to beat them in time.

I don't think Xur will be selling weapons anymore, so that does change things.

This fucking Last Word quest... couldn't kill a single thing with the gun in crucible so I decided to cheese it and only equip it during Heavy Ammo drops. Got a killstreak of 19 kills and went from 0% to 48% in one match. Holy shit xD

Edit: Got the killstreak with a heavy machinegun, not The Last Word.

You only need to have the gun equipped, you don't need to kill anyone with it.

The antiquated rune Court of Oryx event is dope... too bad nobody else understood the mechanics and I wasted it.

Anyone in Australia playing on Xbox One? Please add me, looking for some buddies to play with. Just started up again and currently working through expansion 1 & 2. GT veeoneuhh

Finally finished the Raid. Wow. It took my group 3 days to complete. It was the hardest but most fun raid Bungie created. For me it was and is the best experience I've had in gaming ever.

But now, after playing Destiny Taken King since the 15th I'm really exhausted. Happy to slow it down a bit again.

The DLC though was perfectly segmented into three acts. Really enjoyed it and the end was so satisfying.

You don't lose the rune if the event is not completed successfully! There is just a timer that stops you from activating another rune for a few minutes.

Loving this, can't wait to catch up and tackle the raid. Still haven't done the crota raid yet though.

Is all my year one stuff really useless now? What do I do with it all.

Only good for pvp now?

Sorry, I forgot to write that I had it equipped but used heavy machinegun for the killstreak. Haven't killed a single thing with Last Word and I still have 48%. :D

Was running the Mausoleum farming for flakes to get my sword, and got a legendary engram that turned into Monte Carlo. I was very pleasantly surprised.

Welp. Fireteam finally beat (RAID SPOILERS AHEAD)
Gulgorot
lastl night and got past the part after. Now to go after
the daughters of Oryx

They look very easy comparatively. Is that the case?

The intended use clearly isn't to cheese Draksis over and over again, but the fact people are using the item to farm in this fashion is the issue. It's currently an item that enables and encourages farming.
It encourages it because of the rate at which you can use them, the number you can use within a timeframe of minutes, not the total possible uses over the course of a week. That's all I'm getting at.
I don't think Xur will be selling weapons anymore, so that does change things.
Xur will sell either a Year 2 Exotic weapon or a Year 2 Exotic engram (of some kind), each week.

You're at a disadvantage, but not a stastical one. Do you have, for example, your full subclass perks unlocked?

But it's still a VERY deep disadvantage. For example, I jumped into PvP early on and couldn't even pick up heavy ammo since I didn't have anything to put in that slot. Whereas you have people use the best guns with ridiculous accuracy and fire rates, much better and stronger supers etc.

Utterly ridiculous every single match, I have been paired with max 40 level people, or 39. People who have the best weapons and have hundreds and hundreds of hours of game play over me. I'm sure there are easily hundreds thousands of new Taken King vanilla players like me they could match us up with no? It's getting better though. I'm no longer dead last, able to be one of the better players on the team.

My friend Nova Bombed a cluster of Vandals on Earth during a patrol which saw a legendary engram pop out for me.

It decrypted into The 4th Horseman exotic shotgun (year 2).

So, so amazing.

So today as I was farming Exotic Engrams I got a Monte Carlo, but I really want the Zhalo.

I was wondering if the Monte Carlo is better than the Zhalo for PVE?

Doing a newbie Crota's End raid next Saturday if you're interested, shoot me a PM for info!

Agreed, you're at a disadvantage. Depending on how far beyond maxing your subclass you are, it can indeed be very deep. I was just saying that weapons and armor aren't putting him at a statistical disadvantage, the way PvP works in many RPGs. There are two modes of play that rotate around as events- Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris, where this actually is the case; these modes are essentially unplayable if you're not geared and leveled up. But in normal PvP, as you've noted, you can actually have some success and improve despite the disadvantage.

BTW are you using the legacy playlists? I highly, HIGHLY recommend them for anyone trying PvP under level 35.

I've never done anything like this in a competitive MP match before. 10 kill streak as Stormcaller using Stormtrance. The laugh at the end is really, really embarrassing but I usually suck hard at Crucible so I was very much taken aback by it.

Hahah that's cool man. At first I thought you wouldn't get many where you popped the super but then they all showed up at the last few seconds :D Awesome

There's a lot of personal preference as well as some theorycrafting here.

They're both great.

Monte Carlo is strong and pretty stable as an AR but most importantly has a very unique perk. It's awesome on Warlocks of all types, and certain builds on the other classes using an Exotic armor piece to compliment it. For example, I'm playing around with Nightstalker build using Sealed Ahamkara Grasps, which gives me two smoke bombs, and the Envenom perk, I can almost use smoke bombs as my primary weapon.

The Zhalo on the other hand is great without having to put much thought into it. The crowd control and super-charging aspects are excellent, and it's one of the only options for Arc Damage in the primary slot, which is good against a variety of enemies that have Arc shields.

Can someone explain how the Taken Champions quest works?
I have no idea where to start

I think the quest tells you where they spawn in.

You have to stay in one of the areas and a message will come up saying that the area is getting corrupted by the Taken. When that happens kill a bunch of them and eventually another message will pop up saying when the champion shows up.

Wow the new strikes are really well done. All of them very different from one another.

Taken King makes the old content look so fucking shitty by comparison. At least Bungie at modified a few of the old strikes to help spice it up a bit.

I wish it wasn't always motes of light when you 'level' up. Would be cool if it was random: sometimes coins, sometimes motes, sometimes legendary/exotic engrams, sometimes materials etc

Go to one of the locations on each planet the quest tells you to go to. Eventually a message will appear saying "Taken forces are corrupting this location" start killing them, eventually it'll say "A Taken Lieutenant is corrupting this location" and you need to find it and kill it each time that message shows up, a total of 3 will spawn. After you kill 3 of them you'll see the message "A Taken Zealot has come to claim this location" (may not be the exact message, my memory is spotty right now) and you need to kill him.

True. I still haven't seen one of them or two of the remixed ones, but they're all really solid so far.

The story missions are the biggest leap IMO. It's basically hard to believe they're even shared by the same game with the same characters (feel like I would put that word in quotation marks for the vanilla story missions)

That's a cool idea.

Ranking up factions does have that random element with everything you mentioned as a possibility (except mats), so that's cool. They also added engrams as rewards for some bounties.

Just putting it out there

Any Aussies starting out fresh and want someone to coop with?

psn farmerboy007 or pm me on GAF

ps: I say Aussies cos the time difference to anywhere else is frustrating. Though if you're just starting out add me anyway!

Yeah I like the bounties giving engrams sometimes. Especially when they roll into something good.

They've really established the vanguard leader's personalities, (Eris seems crazy just like always). Turning away a bit from the self seriousness to a bit of humour really gives the game a different tone.

Kind of.. People always say this, but it's not really true. They change the attack numbers to level things out, but there is still a ridiculous gear advantage for higher level players due to the number of perks available on high level weapons and armor.

You aren't going to compete with me with your white shotgun, when mine has 3 range mods and can 1-shot you from 20 feet away. This doesn't even get into the exotics that have huge advantages and are only available at max level. There is no low level hand cannon that is going to be on remotely even ground with Thorn. Can you 2-shot people with a level 10 green?

I have never seen a game where someone who was not at or very close to max level was actually topping the leaderboard. Best case is you can hold your own and finish somewhere in the middle.

The Y2 meta doesn't seem super set at the moment, but I highly doubt it will be any less gear dependent than last year was.
