Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Thanks man!

No problem, I saw that people took my comment of "I know they're in but" a bit too literally while looking back. I know they're in just like the people who say they know urien and alex are in because of siliconera. I guess I should be way more careful with my phrasing since people read way too much in to things here

I don't understand why this game gets constantinflux of information, but Tekken 7 has been quiet for a while now and I think it was announced before it? I think almost all the cast for the game have been revealed as well.

I like Street Fighter, but I want some Tekken info too.
Game too busy making money in arcades, team too busy making like 3 other games

Something I heard recently (I think it was on Face/Off) was that in successful character design, your character's appearance, clothing, etc- it needs to communicate to the audience who they are, what they do, etc. Since a new viewer/player has no familiarity with them, you need to do as much nonverbally as possible. On that metric, Sean's visual design is a complete and total disaster.
How so? He's a shoto variant and he looks like one.

Literally all the shotos have different hair.
But their hair style really communicate what they are ryus hair is unruly and messy, showing that hes a hobo. Kens shows that hes american, akumas gives off an anime kind of look with the multi colored hair. Seans gives a sporty vibe with the sides shaved and the tiny dreads.

He's a guy n a yellow gi. It's not telling you anything about him other than his connection to Ryu/Ken.
You can say the same for any character with a Gi. I guess we'll just have to disagree on this. Although I wouldn't mind a redesign for the character, not crazy fond of his look outside of the hair and earrings.

The similarities go way beyond just the Gi though. Very similar physical structure, pose and normal, which makes sense because they have the same fighting style.

But If they want Sean to be something else , he would need to become something like Gouken. Hes also a shoto story wise but his design is very different.

I dont think he has 250 bucks to bet with. Personally i never bet cause theres always the .1% chance ill lose.
If that's your attitude toward any gamble, I... uh... well, that's something. It's one thing to not gamble where the odds are bad or when the situation is just flat out uncertain, but that seems disastrously risk-adverse.

If I was 99.9% certain of that bet I would be willing to bet the goddamn farm.
No, I have no idea who the last characters are.

Yeah. but he's right Sean's entire look communicates to the audience that he's a shoto but with a twist and that's exactly how he plays.

Sean's design is primarily a result of re-using the same sprites to squeeze out a technically new character while minimizing work. His design was inherently limited. A good bonus for that game, but not worth bringing forward a more derivative character at the expense of other more unique characters. Better to have a new character with the same nationality than to stick to the current design for that reason. If they're going to carry the design over, wait until the well is starting to run dry.

Damn Sean = Fukua

Nah but you're entitled to your opinion

you do appear to have a fundamental misunderstanding of gambling statistics but i'll forgive it because of the dope genderswapped Alex avatar
Im the biggest coward ever. Also blame my brother for always making dumb loopholes in our bets when i was younger so even if i was 100% right id still lose

I'll bet anyone here $250 that Gief and Sim will either be in the initial roster or they won't. I'm very, very confident it will be one of those two things.

Wasn't Sean the OG Shoto for 3? I read that there originally was no classic characters in 3 and that Ryu and Ken were only added after an uproar during loketests. So at one point the only shoto in a Street Fighter game didn't have a fireball. And that means Ryu and Ken are clones of Sean.

Even better was they weren't planning to have Sean in at all but rather Dan, making him of all characters the only veteran.
Watch someone take that bet and only Sim is in the roster. Then you'd be sad.
Have they ever been revealed separately?

I know you're joking, but if we see Sim and they don't show Gief, that'd be super surprising.

I've heard the same thing, & I'd also like to know if this is true.

It's in one of the interviews in a SF artbook with either Akiman or another big Capcom artist like Edayan.

Sadly, even the inclusion of Ryu & Ken wouldn't help the financial success of SF3. All versions were technically failures, but 3S sold the most cabs. It wasn't until 3rd Strike Dreamcast, SF 15th Anniv edition and 3S Online Edition were they eventually able to make a profit.

Even tho SF3 started in 97, it was the beginning of the 'Dark Age' of Capcom fighters, as the SF franchise would only remain popular in crossover titles like CVS1 & 2 as well as MVC2. There were so many SF games from 1994 to 1999 that it would make your head spin.

SSF2 Turbo
Alpha 1
Alpha 2
Alpha 3
SF3
SF3 2nd
SF3 3rd
SFEX
SFEX+A
SFEX 2
SFEX 2 +

More than two games a year is what ultimately made SF stale. And this isn't even including the VS. series/spinoffs.

Fuck sim and geif. I'm betting zen is the new stretchy character.
This is so tiresome. Do you really lack any creative ability to imagine an Indian that isn't stretchy? Do you think Capcom is going to design Dhalsim 2.0 from India and give him to us? It makes no sense at all.

India has a lot of great martial arts to draw from. Getting Yoga again would be lame, if they want range they could give Zen a fighting style based on poles or blades. A Billy Kane style fighter in SF seems interesting, maybe with more acrobatics and flames to give some flair.

I wouldn't say it makes no sense. Disciples are a huge thing in fighters. It would be creatively bankrupt, but I could absolutely see it happening.

Why do people think Zen is Indian again? Didn't we hear Africa for Rashid or something?

"Zen" as a word has Chinese/Buddhist origin (yeah I know Buddhism itself originated in India). I feel like we're gonna see a yellow asian, even though I want a brown one.

Yea and Laura is the new Blanka amirite?

All Indians are stretchy and shout Yoga before everything? Do people srsly so blindly follow stereotypes? India has a huge array of ancient fighting styles SF can draw from, Look up Bodhidharma and his influence on martial arts .

And you want Capcom to follow some shit stereotype set by some hollywood movie? All serious characters need to be from Japan,China,US. Leave all the freaks for the other countries.

Glad I was narcissistic enough to search if anyone mentioned my name. Sorry, the past week I've barely been online since school started up again, work's been busy and any other spare time I was running around to catch various movies at TIFF (Toronto Film Fest) plus I had to do best man duties for a friend's wedding. Needless to say, it's been hard to keep up with this thread.

aaaaaaaaaanyways I'll shake on that. My 10 bucks says Sim and Gief are in the starting roster vs yours saying they aren't. No DLC crap etc. I'm assuming paypal is fine for the exchange?

Paypal is cool. Consider it a bet!
