HOLY SHIT, JUST SAW THIS ON TWITTER

Fuck Konami

I don't think this is accurate. Its missing the MGS Collection. and collection means clothing line.

I do think this game has the weakest bosses, maybe tied with MGS4 for weakest.

I mean I agree, but this game is also the biggest change to Metal Gear in it's history. I expecting some other changes along with it.

I got my Quiet boss fight, my Salaflinstones fight, sick skulls fights, and plenty of incredible gameplay that could not be replicated in any other game. I'm happy.

I would put it on par with MGS4, MGS2 and then I like them more than Peace Walker. There's just simply not many boss fights at all but I enjoy what is there. Especially Quiet.

Oh, yeah MGSV bosses are definitely better than PW. Sorry, I had erased that game from my memory.

Agree with you there. I'm happy with the gameplay absolutely. The real challenges came in infiltration...those were the real boss fights. Getting into OKB Zero was the best boss fight lol. But you are right the boss fights we did get were done very well, considering the open world.

All the other MGS games had amazing bosses. This game is the only exception.

Peace walker had terrible boss fights.

MGS4's bosses all had the same backstory and were just halfassed homages to previous bosses.

MGS 2 & 3 have their ups and downs

MGS1 is still the absolute king no question about it

^^^ Watch this, people

This is great. Probably the best MGSV analysis video I've seen, and I've seen at least most of them.

Most of your observations of Peace Walker didn't even really occur to me.

Your The Phantom Pain analysis is spot-on.

"And that *zoom* is some villainous shit" made me laugh.

20 minutes in, wasn't it Kaz who mentions mentions the animal conservation platform first, not Ocelot?

26 minutes in, Ocelot does leave Mother Base ... once. He comes to pick up V. Snake and Codetalker in the helicopter.

But yeah, you hit why the twist isn't satisfying for a lot of people on the head.

And the final 4 minutes of the video are hilarious (there's no way they let Kiefer see the Quiet scene, they probably just asked him to laugh creepily with no context).

Good job.

Hey, thanks for the praise. And I forgot who first mentions the conservation platform, Miller and Ocelot sound too darn alike when speaking over the radio. Also glad you liked the little extra bits at the end.

: )

Episode 51 was cut, but frankly it was clear that was the last mission. Debating that it is cannon is a mistake though. It could have been cut purely because they didn't like the way that story was headed and had no time to make a replacement.

Chapter 2 was par the course. Having played peace walker, you would have known that this was a thing he does.

Chapter 3 is a mystery, but I would say that it was probably intended to show that title card before the nuke ending, considering it's the only plotline in the game where a title like that makes sensitive.

I think the phantom content shit needs to stop, just learn to accept the game for what it is and not what it isn't.

If they didn't like the content they cut with 51 they shouldn't have left the massive stinger that leaves a massive open thread on the conclusion to the series.

Also bollocks. Its hardly phantom content when you can see the seams. Chapter 2 is the worst offender. Repeat the same missions, randomized cut-scenes and an ending that literally comes out of nowhere with no context or pacing. Theirs a difference between what we got with this and a mission/story structure that is designed around a hand held machine.

Also, I played Peace Walker.

I disliked most of MGSV's boss battles.

The Skulls ones were the worst. It's fighting a healthbar more than it's fighting a compelling boss.

Quiet was OK, so was Sahelanthropus. They both had a sense of scale befitting of an open world Metal Gear Solid game, but they weren't as engaging as something like Olga or the Shagohod.

Man on Fire was a waste.

Eli's was probably my favourite. I didn't have a great experience with his first fight, as I didn't really make the effort to engage him with CQC. But the second one, as a one-on-one hide and seek CQC duel, was pretty good. Frantic, exciting, character driven.

Overall the bosses were a miss for me.

I disagree. Peace Walker's bosses, aside from being bullet sponges, were very fun to fight against, especially in Co-Op. Loved the music, their movements and their special abilities.

MGS4's bosses were astounding. And they were incredible homages to the series in general. They were fun to fight against (Crying Wolf being one of my favorite bosses in MG history) and it also featured one of the best and more meaningful final battles in video game history.

Oh man guys, I'm back from a ban and boy what a brutal time to get slapped with one right before the release of MGSV. Needless to say I beat the game within the first couple days of release and like most everyone else here was SUPER disappointed in pretty much all aspects of the game's story and certain gameplay decision. Now, I planned to write a super long post detailing why the game's story was so bad but then it ballooned into like 8 pages and I figured no body would want to read that so I decided to try and make a video about. Of course, recently SuperBunnyHop came through with a video that perfectly stated many of the things I was already planning on saying about the game and its plot but since I was already half-way done with making the video I decided to finish it anyway.

So, here's my thoughts on MGSV's Story:
MGSV: A Phantom Plot (A Critique of MGSV's Story)

I want to apologize and warn you in advance for the poor audio quality and general production quality. I'm not some production whizz and I'm working with sub-par equipment. So be sure to turn up the volume and be gentle criticizing my voice work, I managed to screw up a few times recording and was too lazy to re-record those parts so take that as you will. Surprisingly, I forgot to mention a few other things that bugged me regarding the plot like how the "real" Big Boss is completely out of character for the brief bits we get of him but I can talk about that later.

Enjoy.

This is very interesting so far. People should watch this so far.

Disagree with point 1, totally agree with point 2, although Raging Raven could get frustrating.

PW's bosses were probably amazing in co-op. I (and many others) played them solo and they turned into bullet sponges. Also, them all being machines was disheartening.

I'm going to give you the backstory of one of the Beauties, you tell me which one this is:

she grew up in a rural town when war broke out. Soldiers came in and killed her entire family and friends and left her to fend for herself. She somehow made it, and eventually she exacted her revenge on those who hurt her so deeply. however, now she is a husk of a human being, enduring this one emotion in such a manner that some saw potential in this and decided to weaponize her.

now, which boss am i talking about?

Truly a fantastic video. I agree 100% with everything you said.

Why are you asking me about their backstories when I never mentioned anything about them? I've always made it clear that their stories were made with a random bullshit generator. What I loved about them was the fights themselves, their abilities, their designs (Some of the best I've ever seen), their music, their voices and attitudes. That's why I think the bosses are amazing. I never said anything about their personal lives being cool.

For me, it's that the bosses are fun AND their stories are decent. It's why i feel the bosses in MGS4 are weak and why I hold MGS1 up at the top. It got the balance right: fun bosses who have great backstories and you feel like a badass having overcome them. After all, lets not kid ourselves: the stupid metal gear stories are part of the draw for the series.

I felt nothing from the Beauty fights and I especially felt nothing from the Peace Walker bullet sponge robots. I suppose to each their own but IMHO Kojima peaked at MGS1 and has had his ups and downs since.

They did for me, almost immediately the Skulls jump on your tank and rust it up. Same fighting Sahelanthropous, jumping in a vehicle seemed incredibly pointless. I just FMBR rocketed his weak points while dodging and taking cover until Psycho shows up as a stagger point. Taking out Quiet with shpply drops is hilarious though I didn't know you could do that the first time around.

I found that you can stop Sahelanthropus from releasing the archea by shooting him in his chest when it starts to glow orange. That's also a weak spot for him.

Can anyone explain how on earth to use the parasite suit? I have the suit equipped, brought parasites (from extracting skulls) as an item... now what? Nothing happens.

Feel like I'm being stupid.

You use them like you use the phantom cigar i think. Just go to the selection menu and in there activate them using R3 i think. It says in there.

It's a shame people complained about the boss backstories. Kojima mostly got rid of them. They could have just skipped it.

Backstory can be important, but is it not essential for me. That's why I also loved The Cobra Unit and we know jack shit about them. The battles themselves were the highlights for me.

Besides, from ALL of the MG bosses only 3-4 have interesting stories anyways. From MGS only Sniper Wolf was interesting, and to a (VERY) lesser extent, Psycho Mantis. Liquid's backstory was laughable.

The Boss, Solidus, Sniper Wolf. Those are the ONLY bosses in the entire series that I'd consider to have great backstories. The rest? Not so much.

you select it with the right stick (R3) than once you have it selected push in the R3 button to use it.

You will know you used it when the meter slowly drains underneath the icon

Oh, yeah MGSV bosses are definitely better than PW. Sorry, I had erased that game from my memory.

No way. The vehicle fights (tanks, APCs, etc) were way better in Peace Walker than they were in this. They had weak points, they deployed troops, and you had to disable them and lure the pilot out to capture them. In V you just sneak up and attach a balloon to it, boom gone.

The biggest problem with them and the AI weapons was that they were bullet spongey, and well...the Skulls are basically more maneuverable, bullet spongey soldiers.

Quiet's fight is fun only if you go into it without a sniper rifle. Which is what I did, so it was fun.

Sahelanthropus is just as bad as any of the Peace Walker bosses. Its only good aspect is the scale of it and running around the open world fighting it.

Definitely this. When it comes to bosses, Peace Walker is infinitely superior. No contest.

Is there a good way of doing EXTREME Code Talker without just sneaking past the Skulls?

I tried for like 30 minutes yesterday taking them out really slowly from behind a rock. Almost got it too, but mistimed something and got one hit killed. So I said fuck it and snuck by the down near the river and passed them by. Finished the mission, but it felt like cheating haha.

Peace Walker vs. MGSV in terms of boss fights is like asking which engine-less car is faster.

There's no reason 1 and 3 had amazing, well-designed bosses and everything after has been a fart noise.

Nope, he felt he wasn't being paid enough this time around.

No. The original actor ( who acted with Sutherland on Touched) was insulted by the money they offered.
Time Winters voiced Zero this time... And did an excellent job.

Damn. The VA of Zero might be the best one in the game. Sadly we only hear it on a few tapes.

Eh maybe I didn't have the right gear or maybe I just suck, but I thought it was challenging enough. Died I think twice. One time was bullshit though because I shot a rocket too close at Psycho Mantis and it killed me.

It was about as tough as any other fight against a Metal Gear to me.

Lol what? Hardest boss in the game for me. Took me like 10 tries.

Unless I'm missing some obvious strategy here haha.

Huh? I swear I got it in like the first try (not bragging) I actually thought this was one of those bosses where: "THIS IS NOT EVEN MY FINAL FORM". But after I depleted it's health. Nada. Nothing. Nil. Total bullshit.

say what you will about how many bosses there are in MGSV but they're unique enough. You duel with Quiet, run from Volgin, fight sally twice, have to punch liquid in the face several times, and fight the skulls on occasion. I'd do those any day over Peace walker's rando tank and stupid flying boss and that huge machine thing you fight in a pit.

I agree. I don't remember really enjoying a single boss fight in PW, let alone remember most of them at all. In MGS4 the only boss fight I vividly remember and had a lot of fun with was Solid vs. Ocelot. Everything else felt like a big blurry homage.

But I still remember All of the Cobra Unit's fights, all of the MGS1 fights, and at least Vamp from MGS2 like I played them yesterday.

But also, I'm not complaining about the boss fights in MGSV. I'm not going to act like I wouldn't want there to be more cool ones, but I had fun with what I was given, and the never ending fun to the gameplay and different design desicions helped fill that void. But yes, it's certainly one of the weakest in the series when it comes to bosses.

This is true. I think some of them get undermined because they're not your typical MGS boss fight with the health bar and all. I really enjoyed fighting Liquid at his African HQ a whole lot actually, but I guess I didn't really consider it a boss fight. But then again, I like that because I always thought it was weird when a standard human like Olga would have a full straight up boss HP bar.

thats what i found. lol... dunno if you were being funny.

I just can't believe I put 120 hours into this thing and never figured out how to use the cigar. When I couldn't use it in the early game I just de-equipped it and never thought about it again. I might use it now!

Didn't expect my parasite armor question to be the answer to a different question as well.

LOL...

for a second i thought you were making fun of me hahaha.

I think i've only used the phantom cigar once. During the rescue Huey mission, ended up having someone run into Venom lol. Never used it again.

The bosses needed more variety, not just in a limited number of attacks, but they have no transformation during the fight.

Sahelanthropus barely has three modes; one of them is triggered half way through his health, and the other 3/4ths of the way through, and neither of them are anything exciting. He charges a laser that you have to hide from, and leaps toward you in slow motion with Mantis near you. He's a bullet sponge other than that.

That's pretty boring, but what's worse is that the other bosses didn't even get that much attention. The Man on Fire just has to get wet. The Skulls just have to get hit until they die. Eli has to be successfully CQCed. Skull Face didn't even get a boss fight.

Platinum Games made better Metal Gear bosses and better codec calls. Koji Pro should have taken some cues from them.

While I find MGSV bosses to be underdeveloped in gameplay, I would rather play against them than what's in PW. I absolutely hate bullet sponges, and I can't stand the way PW's mechanics handle.

Yeah I hated Peace Walkers boss fights. MGSV ones were pretty damn great.

edit: yeah not getting to fight Skullface was kind of dumb. i mean thats what GZ and PP build up to.

the phantom pain continues[/spoile]

Kojima gets one of these.

This video is super interesting. Very well done. Thank you foxtrot3d .

I think this might be a better dissection of the game than Bunnyhops video.

Are we due for another thread soon?

|OT3| Peace Day Never Came

It's like the End fight if the only ways to beat him where sniping him in his wheelchair or to run straight for the ladder.

The one described on Giant Bomb was the way that really got me interested in the possibilities.

Jason let him to the edge of the cliff over the reservoir, then dove past him, got into a jeep, gunned it, and hopped out before it hit Volgin. Volgin went off the cliff with the jeep and just didn't come back, so Jason could call the helicopter in peace.

That stuff sounds really cool! I just wish there were more to it rather than that being the culmination of all things Man on Fire. It's more puzzle than puzzle-boss.
