Uncharted 2 PS4 Gameplay

Surely the fact that this feeling is quite widespread shows that it has at least some merit. As someone who criticizes uncharted 3 I am probably harsher on it than other games because I hold naughty dog to a higher standard than most devs. I do not feel like I am being hyperbolic in calling UC3 a step down from UC2 and i do not think you disagreeing with me means your opinion lacks merit.
"A step down" is not the same as "terrible". It's personally my least favorite in the series, but I still think it's fun and a damn good game overall.

Most of the people who dislike UC3 aren't saying it's a "terrible" game, but compared to UC2 it's a substantial downgrade in almost every facet aside from graphics. It's like UC2 was a 9.5 and then the third game was more like an 8.

The more annoying thing is people saying UC3 is just more of UC2 when in reality, it's really not.

The mix of hyperbole and this narrative built up that people had an issue with UC3 because it's "just more UC2" makes UC3 discussion impossible, especially for someone like me who feels UC2 is about a 9 while UC3 felt more like a 6. I genuinely didn't enjoy most of that game (counting multiplayer here as well) but it's impossible to express that without coming off like another crazy person.

In before LastNac

I've been serving LastNac truth on that game for years now. We've gone so far down the rabbit hole of Uncharted 3 discussions arguments that we're trapped and have to help each other climb out, led by the light of Uncharted 4.

Glorious.

One thing that is a little iffy looking is Drakes mouth in UC2. It looks weirdly dark around his teeth. I don't remember it looking that way back in the day. The dark areas around his eyes and Flynns also kinda look weird. Too black I mean.

I was watching someone stream the beginning of Uncharted 2 on Live From PlayStation and I thought the same thing.

If you think Uncharted 3 is a 6/10, I'm sorry to let you know, it's too late dude, you're already coming off like another crazy person :p

Looks so good. I think it's incredibly short sighted (and a great shame) that Uncharted 4 is 30fps.
I don't think it's short sighted at all. While 60FPS would have made the gameplay much more fluid, I highly doubt those larger maps and destructible environments would have even been possible at 60FPS. Just saying, but AI may also have to be parred back at 60FPS. I'd rather have all those than 60FPS because they add more to gameplay than a silky smooth gameplay.

I like U2 better overall for its consistency but U3 was amazing. The best parts of U3 were better than the best of U2 for me.
Thankfully, U3 had some the first actual puzzles of the series. Makes me hopeful for U4 in this aspect.

Anyone else afraid of playing through all this and then being bored to death by Uncharted 4 because it might just be "another one of those"?

Because at this point I could almost accept that from Uncharted 4 because it's been so long since I played an Uncharted game.

I cant think of much of anything from Uncharted 3 that I really enjoyed the same way as Uncharted 2's highs.

But I also think all the of the games have issues so whatever.

Am I the only one to be bothered by the huge button prompts? Do they really need to be that size and that ugly?
I never played the original games, was it already like that?

Those parts are a breeze on crushing. The part you should be worried about is the
QTE boss
at the end of the train sequence. That part took me well over a dozen tries, which was irritating as hell because it's just pushing the buttons in the right order for the right amount of time, a skill that you've never used before and will never use again, not the gunplay skills that you've been pushed to acquire over the rest of the game.
LOL, yeah, this. When I first played Uncharted 2 on Crushing, that part took me a lot of tries as well. For some reason, that guy is annoyingly hard to counter. But my subsequent playthroughs were much easier when dealing with this guy. However, overall, I think Uncharted 2 on Crushing is the easiest and most satisfying. Uncharted 3 on Crushing is full of cheap deaths that make you wanna throw the controller at the screen. Never tried the first game on Crushing, but I bet it's a nightmare.

The
plane sequence
came close to UC2's greatness. However, the walk through the
desert
was absolutely dreadful.

As much as other studios can try, nothing is as good as a Naughty Dog game. Anyone who has not played uncharted and has a ps4 should try this.

Amazing.
Wow. Hyperbole much? I loved Uncharted flaws and all (hello Vsync) and Uncharted 2 was just really fucking great, but U3 was pure unadulterated trash my friend. That fucking ship graveyard level and the final level were dire.

I really don't get the mythic treatment of ND. I really don't.

UC3's enemy spawns are baffling to me. Like, the combat arenas are fine. I love stuff like the bobbing platforms in the shipyard, and the crumbling desert city. But the game constantly puts shit behind the player. The sandstorm fight is an utter mess, with enemies spawning all over the fucking place - a cacophony of riot soldiers and rocket launcher enemies. It sums up most of the game's encounters.

The amount of forced walk in UC3 is heinous. Cartagena, Yemen, the fucking desert...these sections kill the game's flow whenever they crop up. And I like me some games with good flow. I could maybe cut the desert some slack if it was the only example of forced walk in the game (those first two are completely unnecessary, btw - the worst kind of forced walk).

Disappointing, but not a terrible game overall imo. Graphics are some of the best on PS3, puzzles are alright-to-good, and I can enjoy some of the combat sections on lower difficulties (though I finished it on Crushing :p). I have to wonder what was going through the designers' minds when working through some of those encounters. Deep down I hope the collection version will tweak some of the enemy spawns/compositions, but it's doubtful. 6/10 sounds right.

Not really looking forward to the endless waves of samey enemies of the third game but everything else is so great. Can't wait to play the train sequence again.

This. That sandstorm fight was annoying as hell to play on Crushing because the enemies for some reason had no problems at all seeing Nate in the storm.

man I really don't get how people cant see how inferior U3 is to U2, everything except puzzles were huge downgrade, from terrible enemy placement, encounter design, buggy hit reaction system that makes crowd control impossible, terrible AI, unfinished melee system to pace destroying sections.

Just my 2 cents on the Uncharted Trilogy.

I played the 2nd first, then the 3rd. I felt like 3rd wasn't as good, but was a solid entry.

Finally when The Last of Us was coming out, I popped in the first one, as I was going to play the whole trilogy again (and the first for the first time).

I disliked a good bit of it. It seemed like the action parts lasted far too long and there were too many, not enough breaks in the action. That was my number one gripe about it and of course it's set pieces didn't compare to 2 and 3's.

Played the 2nd one again, was fantastic. Played the 3rd again, fantastic, I liked it more than the first time I finished it. I would rank it : 2=3 >>>>>1

I dislike 1 enough to almost recommend my friends who have never played the series, to skip it and start with 2 when the trilogy comes out but I'm not gonna do that.

Is there any information out on what the audio options are like? TLOU Remastered had some really good controls for 5.1 (dynamic range options, center channel use, surround speaker angles and speaker type selection), and the PS3 games had many of the same options, too. I'd be disappointed if all they have in the collection is Master Volume adjustment.

Also Drake strangely younger in UC2 because they beard doesn't look as scruffy.

Not seen what the specific options are but one of the streamers talked about the audio now being selectable at 7.1 and that there was loads of audio options available. I assume from that it's going to be similar to The Last of Us.

Hopefully that's the case. I'm still a little wary about keeping my pre-order locked in.

Thanks for the videos!

I am beyond excited for a replay of all three of these games. Held off on replaying the PS3 versions for the past two years due to suspicions and then confirmation of the PS4 collection. I literally cannot get enough of these games. I've completed each numerous times, yet I am just as excited to go back for more.

Something about a long, lazy weekend and an Uncharted game. Feels good.

UC3 is absolutely a step down from UC2.

Being a step down from a critically acclaimed classic still makes it a fantastic game.

I'm probably going to pick this up at some point, wouldn't mind playing through those games again on a PS4. I think they have a lot of issues and I certainly didn't like them as much as most reviewers seemed to but they were enjoyable for sure.

I'm not sure what about UC3 it's a step down compared the 2. I can agree about the story but I found it more enjoyable in general. In all honesty I always found UC2 the more overrated of the series.

UC3 topped UC2 in the set-piece moments category. From a narrative perspective, it felt somewhere between Uncharted Drakes Fortune and UC2.

Visually, sure. The burning chateau is probably one of the best uncharted set pieces as you retain full control most of the time and was engaging to play through. The ship and plane were pure spectacle and in many ways went against the mantra of keeping you in full control during the setpiece. Also the desert chase was just ripped straight out of U2. The reason the train, the collapsing building and the tank in the tibetan villagewere so impressive was that they not only provided spectacle but combined that with engaging gameplay which allowed you to be in full control at all times.

Hopefully today, our review copy was shipped on Thursday but as usual the post office sucks at Driftwood's place.
I don't know what restrictions people are under at the moment, but if you're able to could please also take some screenshots in the photo-mode? PNG and uncompressed would be lovely thanks. ;)

You did have a good amount of gameplay in many of the set-piece moments in UC3, and I get what you're saying. UC3 narrative/gameplay surprise also made the game very special for me(Getting to
play as younger drake, this wasn't spoiled in any of the trailers leading up to the launch of the game and it surprised me a lot
)

I guess we will try this stuff during our live stream tonight, feel free to join and us about that when are streaming :)
