Fuck it, got my old save in the cloud and restored. I WIN KOJIMA

Sorry for making a large amount of posts quoting and replying to a ton of people. Just can't keep up I guess.

Kojima shoulda just stuck with this design period

Definitely, Neiteio had a good explanation for how they they could have done it that why but, Kojima gonna Kojima I guess.

Has his torture ever been successful?

MGS3: TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO KNOW oh god I am so sorry about your eye please don't hate me

MGSV: TALK QUIET TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO KNOW well she's mute and we cuffed her hands and then didn't monitor the room after we left so we have accomplished nothing does anyone want some soda

MGS1: TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO KNOW damn I didn't think you would be that good at pressing Square I guess I'm beaten

MGS4: TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO KNOW well known liar Naomi has clearly given me everything I want and held nothing back, I am sure this all went great, let's not press her on it

Well, at least with Naomi everything was according to keikaku, so no big deal there. Got a jolly laugh from this though.

That's how I read that scene too.

At least gives Venom, the player avatar the actual emotion most players should be having at that point. Hate for BB at being played.

You might want to sit down.

It's so stupid because they should have made her absence in the continuing events in the story be where the phantom pain came from. She should have been a major player than stopped being around midway, the replays are replays anyways, it doesn't make sense to restrict a player from using the people who were around at the time, why the hell is Codetalker apparently always in the mansion apparently then.

"Don't tell me how you killed Venom in Outer Heaven, Snake. TELL ME HOW HE LIVED."

(weeps)

"He was played like a damn fiddle".

In his defense, helping a shithead doesn't really count.

True.

Great for story but awful for replaying missions. What a great reward for getting the true ending.

Like I said above, they should have made her more involved in the story and took her away halfway through, only usable in replays if missions where she was around, since you know, these events aren't playing out in real time again, its just video game nonsense to have Codetalker and Huey always hanging out at the mansion and the base to be picked up.

I am 100% sure she was designed as a naked angel of death first and then they tried to justify it with a story reason.

No doubt.

Every time Kojima bets huge on something, I just picture him emerging from a Vegas with empty pockets going "Yes, I spent all your money betting against the Harlem Globetrotters but, but I had a good time."
Never bet against the Harlem Globetrotters.

*starts whistling the Globetrotters theme with intermittent whoa-ooooohs mixed in*

Anyway, happy that I got Quiet back even if I have to replay a bunch of side ops and missions again. Will not lose her before I Platinum the game which will probably take a long while, lol.

I didn't mind her design at all. I liked the explanation and I think her badassness overcame her design. Such a cool character. Really sad she will never pop up again anywhere later on. I'm gonna think she's all old now and just relaxing at some beach eating the sunlight.

Keep in mind you need to put the butterfly emblem in your logo if you don't want her to leave again.

So, I'm not the only one who was confused as to how actually use Quiet right?

Like, there was a good number of times where I would grab a guy with the intent of fultoning him, only for Quiet to give him another face hole.

Like her orders are not clear at all.

Before you get a tranq rifle and "Cover Me," she is pretty hard to use.

The design is bad. Even if you want to go with the naked lady badass thing, at least give her something functional like a sports bra and boyshorts. Her top doesn't even fit right. I can't imagine having your tits flop around helps you steady a shot.

I didn't realize this until halfway through the game, but you can tell Quiet to scout an area of your choice via iDroid.

Someone should really do a timeline of all of Kojipro's mishaps/blunders because I feel like there are a lot of them that I can't remember but having them all lined up would at least contextualize why Konami would give him the boot and probably why Phantom Pain ended up the way it did.

I'm sure its been put together before but I just realized tonight why it makes perfect sense Hayter isn't Big Boss since we aren't playing as BB. lol For whatever reason that didn't come to mind immediately after I finished the story.

The attempted rape was incredibly incredibly unnecessary and undoes so much of that character's progress.

It is an awful crutch bad writers rely on for female characters.

her torn up pantyhose probably bugged me more than her top. XD

But Sutherland voices Big Boss in Ground Zeroes and the real Big Boss in TPP.

imagine if Hayter came back for thr true ending where you heard him in GZ flashback and as real Big Boss. that would've been more amazing. but no, they stuck with Kiefer.

One of these pictures is from an MGS game and one is not. Can YOU tell the difference?

I was going to remark that the lower one was better designed, but no... Not really.

is your source "tales from my ass"?

pitting the 'race' of adults vs the 'race' of children does feel very much a kojima idea. not that we ever saw it realised.

honestly the chapter cards should have been scrapped if it wasn't looking like the content to fill chapter 2 and beyond could be finished. i do have a few ideas why they're still there though, but i don't think we'll ever know the true context.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to say that I knew everything, it was just speculation. I did say "definitely", but I thought it was clear I was speculating based on prior evidence from the marketing and discussion of the project before release. They made a big deal about the ethnic tensions idea on twitter, in KP alerts, and even somewhat implied in trailers. I guess I was a little forceful in my objection to the idea of race meaning something else, but I didn't mean to come off like a know it all. Sorry.

Kojima wanted you to feel the phantom pain of your lost dignity after watching Quiet's shirt pop open as someone tries to kill her, followed by her snapping necks, crushing balls, biting ears, stabbing dicks, strapping a grenade to a guy, setting fire to them, and shooting them.

that cutscene was amazing. holy shit at the choreography.

Watching the Elegia trailer gives me goosebumps every time

But knowing the context of all of the quotes just makes me irritated
Actually, I think that's the one trailer that reflects the final product. They drop the disingenuous "heel turn" marketing hook and focus purely on the language themes that are actually in the game. It's a nice summary of the themes to enjoy after the game, imo.

It's uncomfortable for me to watch, but it is well-made.

I keep rewatching the scene with Huey's trial and exile. Kaz's VA is so good in that scene. "He's the enemy, and he's here on his knees! He hasn't lost a thing!"

Love it.

Between MGS4 and MGSV:

- Wants Metal Gear to be more kid-friendly, looks at Monster Hunter, decides MGS5 should be on PSP. Konami begs him to keep it on a console, but he insists this is going to be worth it. They at least convince him not to name it MGS5. Konami goes in hard on marketing, game is a huge flop in the west where MGS4 was most successful.

- Kojima Productions gets an action Raiden game greenlit, the first time Metal Gear goes multiplatform. Kojima tasks his team to make the game while he works on Peace Walker. They have a lot of ideas, Kojima pens a story for it, and they create a demo for the Microsoft conference. Turns out the demo is all lies and the game basically never existed in this form. After about two years of faffing about and not coming close to this, Konami and Kojima Productions cancel the project. Konami taps Platinum to pick it up and reboot it inside of 15 months. Kojima appears to harbor some professional dislike of the game.

- Kojima thinks the 3DS is cool, begins a 3DS remake for it. The demo is playable at E3 2010, runs well and looks good. Kojima loses interest in the project and diverts funding to work on...

- The NGP is announced by Sony. Kojima immediately falls in love, Konami isn't keen because of Peace Walker. Kojima assures them that it will be fine and includes the NGP in his specs for FOX Engine. A major part of Konami's E3 Digital Event is dedicated to Kojima explaining transfarring with MGS HD and ZOE HD to the NGP because he was sure taking console games on portables was going to be huge. Vita fails to light the world on fire and ZOE HD is subsequently cancelled.

- Avi Arad introduces Kojima to Keifer Sutherland. Kojima moves heaven and Earth to get him as Snake. Kojima starts spending money like water, commissioning lots of music and then throwing it away because he doesn't think it fits, but still paying in full for it.

- Kojima uses his english twitter to boast about how he is asking Shinkawa to make a character more erotic because he wants to see women cosplay her, seemingly completely ignorant of the changing tides going on in the video game industry.

There's probably more that I'm forgetting.

Can you elaborate on Kojima seeming to be ambivalent about Platinum's Rising? I never heard of this.

well this thread is basically stuck in a "hey remember that thing that was lame" "yep" "whoooooooooooo" loop now

Watching the Elegia trailer gives me goosebumps every time

But knowing the context of all of the quotes just makes me irritated

Same, why didn't Zero show up in person!? They could have shown how BB came into his good graces again while showing why BB'd want to end his reign.

i can finally watch the later trailers! but first, GB spoilercast

I really don't have the right to complain about a show I've only heard once, but I was dissapointed they didn't seem to rag on the story enough. I know its lame to listen to a podcast in the hopes they'd feel the same way I and others do, but that's that. I really do feel betrayed in a way by reviewers, how can a game with such bad pacing, such thin story, such undeveloped characterization, such filler side ops, such a clear amount of content, and such a lust for poorly justified sexualization review this well? I can't blame them for rating it high if they were forced to rush through the story and they assumed they skipped all the good optional scenes that filled the story out to meet their review bootcamp 40hrs deadline.

Now I recall that early review from that French magazine. They gave it an 8.5, I'd probably give it an 8 or a 7.5. At the time I believed that they just didn't see enough of the supposed plethora of optional content and story, that the "light on story" complaint meant, "light on cut scenes" not "pretty much zero sum game, amirightguys!?"

I'm speaking more to how the quotes occur. It's not Snake engaging in a conversation, it's Skull Face talking at Snake during the most awkward jeep ride in existence, or Zero talking in a tape. Cool quotes in a trailer that are delivered awfully in the game.

Amazing.

Can you elaborate on Kojima seeming to be ambivalent about Platinum's Rising? I never heard of this.

Yeah, that one seems to have been embraced moreso than the other non-Kojima games. Between the Raiden Mission in GZ and the Costume in MGSV, it has more representation than Portable Ops, a game actually made in KojiPro.

It know it's a brutal axe kick but that fucking crotch shot, jesus christ. She was nearly raped and now camera is back to being lustful

It's only slightly more stupid than the part where the camera shoots her tits while being tortured.

Amazing.

There's a point in Ground Zeroes where you can look at the Rising logo and Miller goes "You don't need to pay attention to that, it's nothing special."

If you look at Kojima's quotes about Rising, it's really...unexcited and resigned.

KojiPro retained all control over MGR's story and cutscenes, but otherwise left most of the game itself in Platinum's hands. Did the two outfits learn much from each other's development styles? "We've moved toward a pretty Western approach," Kojima explained, "working on creating things like game engines and tools. That has its good and bad points. With an action game, though, you really have to work hard with the programmers as you build it, or else it'll never turn out well. That's always been a concern for me, but doing that kind of puts you back in the boat of how they used to make games in Japan. In terms of efficiency, it's a real drawback."

It's a drawback, but the way Kojima sees it, that's what created MGR. "Platinum leans toward the old way of doing things," he said, "but if it wasn't for that, you wouldn't have characters like Monsoon. Something crazy like that; no way you could build that with tools. You can't have just a level designer. The programmers, the effects guys, the motion guys, and the designers all have to be horizontally oriented, arguing with each other from dawn till dusk, constantly building stuff and breaking it down, for it to happen. I'm not completely happy with that approach, but that's what it is."

citation needed. konami begging pw to be a console game, kojima losing interest on mgs3d...never hearda those.

Partly supposition on my part. PW was Konami reps openly asking journalists if they would have preferred Peace Walker on console with MGO.

It's also not especially hard to see how Kojima went from talking up MGS3DS, being the person to announce the game and everything he's going to do with it, and going from this

9P0wHEY.jpg

to Kojima being completely uninvolved and it looking like this

after the Vita versions of MGS HD and ZOE HD were announced.
