Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Bayonetta had something similar. If you double tap dodge, you turned into a panther. Not sure if it was intentional, but I always thought it was Kamiya forcing you to get the timing of the dodge right to get to Witch time, and I got the same thought with this. 'Better get your timing right or you'll just change into a car'

Again, not sure if this has been intentional, or just the function was there for convenience but if it was intentional to force you to get the timing of dodges right, I think it's genius.

Metal Gear rising raiden REVENGEANCE was the same way too. Seems they like to double up on a single button. It is kinda annoying.

Yeah Bayo has it double tap as opposed to hold. Sometimes when I'm fighting things I get into it and instead of tap to dodge I hold it through the dodge animation and that makes me transform. If it was double tap I wouldn't have the problem.

Yeah it's official: Fuck you Mixmaster and fuck you too Long Haul.

Somehow it does feel good that I'm having troubles, definitely not finishing this in 4-5 hours lol.

This is unfortunate, but I need to see video of it in action to judge for myself I guess...

I don't mind that loot management is in the game, I look forward to it... so maybe I'll be more forgiving...

Edit: gonna watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpFkcfOWt8A

Five minutes in: "it's very important when you fuse weapons to keep an eye on the yellow part of the stats which shows if they are increased. Sometimes when you fuse a weapon the stats don't increase and you can end up with a weapon of a high level that doesn't do much. See? Fusing this one increases stats but this one doesn't, so you don't want to fuse the first one".

First example was of fusing a level 5 weapon with another one which increased its experience bar but didn't make it reach level 6. Second one was a weapon that did make it reach level 6. /facepalm

I just beat it on easy as Optimus Prime. I got to try some of the other bots during the introduction, but stuck with him.

Good game, but not great.

Its combat isn't as deep as other Platinum games, but it's pretty solid. The environments are repetitive and bland, though.

I figured easy would be normal, but it wasn't very difficult.

You can actually dodge by locking on to an enemy and using the left stick+jump button if you reeaally can't deal with it. I wonder how many people beat the game not knowing that, haha. Though for obvious reasons I don't think there's an equivalent in transformers.

there is a handy faq for this game over here:

https://support.activision.com/arti...ay-FAQ/?c=Game_Title:Transformers_Devastation

Enemies don't seem to have weaknesses to elements, do they? Are the elements just to look cool?

I didn't notice much of a difference.

for example:

3. Why is my elemental weapon not causing elemental status effects?

Merely being elemental is not enough for a weapon to inflict elemental status effects. In order to do so, a weapon must also have an element bonus such as “Burn Lvl.1.” These bonuses will sometimes be found on a weapon by default and they can also be added through weapon synthesis.

In addition, every enemy also has a measure of elemental resistance. In order to inflict an elemental status effect your weapon must deliver enough elemental damage to this enemy to overcome its elemental resistance. Should that happen, the weapon will check whether or not it places the status effect on the enemy. Sometimes that chance roll comes up negative and the status will not be inflicted.

As far as I understand:
1. Choose a base weapon.
2. Choose a weapon to feed to the base weapon.
3. If there are any skills attached to the weapon you're feeding to the base weapon, you'll get a window asking which skills you want to transfer (each weapon has a limited number of slots).

Maximum weapon level is 10.
Stronger weapons will give more xp to the base weapon than weaker ones.

Max level isn't 10. I've got a saber that's level 16 right now.

I'm playing through story mode and on to chapter 2. Do people generally use different characters all the time or just stick with someone like optimus?

Is there any reason to switch at all in the story mode?

So I finished Commander difficulty, and it's bee-

Wait, does this mean what I think it do-

Yes.

Wow this is fantastic. Are there lots of weapons that mix up combat un unique ways like this?

I downloaded this yesterday... i really cant wait to start it!!!

Downloaded it last night and played it this morning. Gotta say I love the combat already (more so than MGR:Revengeance).
Didn't know we could change weapons (I've only gotten up to the part where you fight
Megatron as Swidesweep
).

Well done to Platinum.

Wish characters wouldn't gain XP so that you could easily switch between them. Now I'm stuck with Prime for the foreseeable future.

I've actually never been able to use this consistently. It feels like half the time, at least on commander difficulty, enemies are unaffected by the hook.

I got mine really early though, so maybe higher level hooks are better?
Haven't toyed around with it too much, but I've gotten it to consistently work on the low tier enemies. Maybe that'll change on Magnus difficulty, so I'll have to keep an eye out whether higher level variants have superior pulling.

That said, one missed opportunity by Platinum is that you cannot drag an enemy behind you when holding the fire button as you're rolling out into vehicle form! Maybe for the sequel...

Just pump in-game currency to boost stats if need be
I know asking an OT is gonna skew the results a bit, but is this worth getting? It looks awesome

Do you like G1 Transformers?

Do you like character action games?

If you answer yes to either of those, then yes. If to both, then YES YES YES YES!!!

What do you mean by this? Is it because you have been using prime all the time so others are weaker?

I know what you mean. I don't know if I should main one character and work on building their stats and weapons up or keep changing and building each character up..

I find that the best way to motivate myself to change characters is to give the character a bunch of really OP weapons, and then use Challenge Missions where there are lots of different enemies to test out the character's move set and get used to their uniques and ultimates. That way you also get a bunch of credits and can level up stats for that character along the way too.

just wrapped my first runthrough, fantastic game. Kinda merely 'okay' ending from what I was hoping for but you still got some pretty sweet stuff so whatever right

I must be a weirdo, I think hold to transform and tap to dodge feels perfect. I'd love these mechanics, even the shooting, used for some other IPs. I will forever wish Capcom would give Platinum Mega Man X and carte blanche to do whatever they want with the IP.

Maybe outsource the level design though :p

Right, I also spent a bunch of credits on improving Prime's stats so he's way ahead the rest. Actually I think they all get some sort residual XP when you use any character.

At first I level'd up their weapons together, but then I realized that's really pointless since you can just move the weapons around. There's no point to having everyone be equipped with good gear all the time.

That's a good idea. I do have a 30% and 50% extra XP TECHs at least. :P That dumb TECH stuff is actually pretty addictive, I must've spent 200k+ of my monies there.

Just finished, tried everyone a bit, though mostly used Sideswipe. Felt like Grimlock was the only one that really played differently from the others, in terms of his general mobility.

It was very much like Revengeance, including how the chapters flowed, and the length. The environments didn't change all that significantly though to be fair, I don't remember the environs being all that varied in the cartoon, and maybe it's cause I was just a bit underwhelmed by the environmental detail in general (wish they didn't write out the humans; made things look even more bare).

It was weird watching giant robots move as smooth as Bayonetta did as well, and I wish they had more variety than just the arena combat; there are a few changes, but definitely wish they could've had more.

Story mode was short but I'm itching to play again, which I find better than a game that overstays its welcome (I found this with Vanquish and Revengeance too). I'm a fan of the G1 stuff as well and while I would probably have accepted a 3 month delay to get more playable characters (Rodimus, Arcee, more of the Dinobots, make the Decepticons playable, hell gimme more Combiners to fight), this was worth my time.

Now of course, I only rented it. I would've waited until at least the first price drop, but I'm on a budget.

But considering my complaints basically amount to 'I wish there were more', that's a pretty good thing. I not holding out for a sequel (even ic the very end does tease it) but like with Bayo 1, I'd love to see one. Man, I'm glad to get a Bayonetta fix twice in 12 months.

Rented from Redbox last night and just finished it. Played on easy because... well because I rented it.

This was great from beginning to end. Absolutely loved it. I will pick it up (permanently) next year.

The worst thing about TECH is when you nail the timing minigame and Wheeljack goes "THIS IS LEGENDARY!" but instead of a +20% or whatever for a bonus, it says -20% instead. Who thought that was a good idea to troll players?! Lol.

I know Bayonetta has more dial-a-combos, but does it actually have more depth? Seems you're doing pretty much the same thing you're doing here. Dodging and Wicked Weaving with your choice of weapon.

Is it the enemy design?

Just asking y'all action gaming experts. I love my action games but I've never been as engrossed into the real nuts and bolts of 'em.

Yes. This game lets you do a lot of things automatically that you have to do manually in Bayonetta, like dodge offsetting.

Good point about the weapons. I never thought of that. What Is everyone's goto layout?

I'm liking sniper rifle on the left slot. Twin swords up top (hammer is too slow) blaster on right slot and rocket or grenade launcher down the bottom.

Not sure I fully understand this implementation of dodge offset - do you have to hold down the attack buttons as you dodge? Seems like half the time I end up doing the charges instead. I feel like I'm getting away with just dodging as I attack without having to hold, but it doesn't seem consistent.

It's not just combos, Bayonetta has more moves across the board that give the player more options at any given moment. Things like the stinger, red hot kick (up and down), enemy step, break dancing, and all the animal form moves gives the combat a more flowing, free form sensation. Also holding the button for charge attacks mid combo have more unique and detailed abilities, expanded even more with the weapons in Bayo 2. The weapons themselves are also more unique overall.

This isn't taking anything away from Transformers, but it's not in the same league.

Ch. 7 is kicking my ass on hard, namely the
Protect wheeljack part.
Any tips for beating this on Hard? I'm thinking of going back and restarting stages on Hard to get better weapons and to level up :X

As someone who isn't that great at games like Bayonetta/DMC am i going to have a difficult time playing this? I really wanna pick it up but looking at all the crazy combo stuff im starting to feel overwhelmed and i haven't even played it yet.

rush charge those snipers on the platforms . took me like 10 tries.
youll have to jump at the right time and if youre having trouble use optimus and his l1
attack

on a side note, i finally beat mission 20 on magnus. took forever but i actually got an SS.

The combos aren't really that crazy.
Game starts with Easy, Normal and Hard difficulties. Easy would be more managable than Normal.
Mind you I'm no Platinum action games pro but I managed to beat Normal with few/minimal deaths.
Once you get a handle of the combat system you'll be able to deal with battles much faster and easier.

I'm kind of annoyed there's no red hot kick in this. Flying enemies are such a pain, especially with no lock on camera. The auto target when aiming is a godsend, but still tricky

Also, both Bayonetta 1 and 2 have many times the number of unique enemies that are in Devastation, and more interesting ones to boot.

the spreadshot weapon type became a vital part of my combos, i can do a near endless vehicle rush with em!!!

i fucin love this game!!!
