Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

I've been searching the thread for PC impressions and found that its performance is "solid". That doesn't sound glowing. Is it a shoddy port?

It's fucking solid, as in: There isn't anything wrong with it. It's nothing exceptional and doesn't look noticeably better than the console versions, but it's solid.

Will probably run decent on toasters as well.

Edit: Any cool combo videos/gifs yet? Can't seem to find much of anything myself.

I've been enjoying the game so much that I bought $195 worth of IDW TF graphic novels.

Just finished last stand of the wreckers, pretty great, but bewildering for a
new fan.

I'm annoyed at Amazon UK. I preorder the PS3 version the day before it came out, they said on my order it'd be here Monday (which is fair, I don't have prime) and they waited until today to tell me they don't have the stock, when they could've told me this Thursday-Saturday instead and then I could've ordered from somewhere else.

No high speed robot action for me today.

Is it me, or is the second mission in Challenge Mode where you fight all the Constructicons at once hell on earth on Commander difficulty?

All of them have a shitload of health and they're constantly wailing on you. I'm just trying to do some combos and I have to keep dodging maniacally to avoid getting hit.

Haha now I just managed to complete this. Got an SS rank for all my troubles as well. Good thing I store my ultimate attack. Used it on Devastator's head when he rose the ground.

It's probably the most casual friendly game they've made, it's easy to do some really insane looking stuff that would take real practice in their other games to pull off.
While Transformers: Devastation is still a notch below God Hand, Bayonetta and The Wonderful 101 in terms of combative options, I'd say Rising is still their least 'complicated' game in their repertoire. Not that I treat this as a slight towards MGR mind you, they're both amazing experiences.

For the first playthrough, I'm thinking I'll stick to Optimus Prime and focus on optimizing him. Unless you recommend otherwise.
Stick to Optimus Prime the first time around if only for his outstanding dialogue. And who doesn't want to be the manliest truck alive overlooking a sunset and parrying a tank shell with his bare hands?!

I'm kinda getting miffed at higher levels when enemies don't get staggered by attacks as much or start auto-parrying randomly to throw you off your game... the Triple Changer dude is nearly impossible to pick up into a proper combo, which is okay, dude's a tank I guess... still, it's kinda irritating having to dodge offset combos being the only way to get a transform attack on the sucker. Oh well, he still drops pretty easily.
One thing I've noticed on the higher difficulties: status effects make a massive difference in making dodge- or parry-happy enemies ultimately more manageable. My lightning axe with Shock lvl 5 + lvl 4 as well as my thermal sword with Burn lvl 5 + lvl 3 were a huge boon in frequently creating brief openings alongside the vanilla stun status (read: when enemies shine in a muted yellow), never mind other tools at your disposal. The spinning lariat is fantastic for crowd control and for (seemingly) delivering a moderate chance at re-applying lingering status effects, counters shortly after triggering Focus / Prime Time are also helpful for establishing windows of opportunity and better yet, the grappling hook is top-tier against similarly sized Decepticons:

Headshots with for example an assault rifle also have a probability of staggering Blitzwing, sometimes even prompting a vehicle attack in conjunction.

Has anybody doing higher difficulties found high rank versions of Prime's Axe or his Ion Blaster? I was a little disappointed that I couldn't use them throughout the game.
Other energy axes like it exist with elemental attributes and almost identical appearances, though they aren't called Prime's Axe.

Been playing the shit out of this game since Friday and absolutely loving it. But I'm pretty confused on how the item usage works. During one of the challenges, I went into the menu and clicked on a recovery item to restore my health. It showed it being used, but I didn't have any additional health. What am I doing wrong?

That's tempting (I've played Bayonetta 2 and Metal Gear Rising like 1,000 times, so I like fast characters), but I almost wonder if I should start with a slower character so it doesn't seem like a downgrade when I go to other characters, lol.

From what I can see in videos, it looks like all of the characters are fast in combat. It's mainly exploring the world where their difference in speed seems to show.

Choosing anyone other than Prime will make the car sections a lot more fun. Optimus is slow going.

The health items give you health immediately, except for the auto heal thing that revives you when you die.

I'm guessing you used one the items that restores weapon energy.

That's what I thought. Those guys often seem to be in their own little world.
To clarify: there's numerous techniques from Bayonetta 1 / 2 that are either missing or lowered in execution (like Dodge Offset) and the average difficulty in Bayonetta 1 especially (be it from Normal to Non-Stop Infinite Climax) generally puts up more of a fight. Not implying that Transformers: Devastation is devoid of hardships because it can still be a struggle depending on the situation, but it is toned down compared to the majority of Platinum's past work. It also doesn't help that the loot and character growth systems heavily skew the difficulty in Devastation one way or the other, to the point you eventually have to deliberately handicap yourself if you're looking for a legitimate challenge after you've seen it all... unless you hardly bother to upgrade.

So yeah, Game Informer further re-inforcing that the enthusiast press at large is still oblivious to the intricacies of stylish action games (and fighting games).

I specifically looked and it says health, but I use it and my health bar didn't replinish at all.

Hey guys, new to this game. Never been a transformers fan but I am a platinum games fan and without even playing this game I am now a transformers fan.

Since I haven't bought the game, I had a question about pre-order bonus. I don't care much for the skins, but will I be able to unlock/download the 3 pre-order weapons at some point or am I out of luck cause I didn't preorder?

So I decided I was going to do Wheeljack for my next run and what should drop near the end of my bumblebee Magnus run?

Good golly! and I thought my gun that just crested 4000 was good.

I really need to beat commander so I can get the next difficulty, but I get caught up in the looting.

Here's my laptop's specs.

CPU: Intel i7 3635-QM @2.4GHZ
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 8870M @ 725 MHz
RAM: 12 GB

I can run it at 720p with no AA, 4xAF, motion blur on, and medium shadow. Better than Metal Gear Rising but worse than Korra. Maybe the upcoming driver will improve it a bit but I'm not expecting miracles. I think I might refund it and pick up the game on PS4.

I believe that was a glitch. I ran into the same issue.

Seriously is it actually possible to defeat
Devastator
and
Menasor
at the same time?

So far it seems impossible.

As someone who's only experience with Transformers was the Bay movies, High Moons games and the 80s toyline but not the show or OG movie....I love this. Feels very fresh and breezy in a world where everything is super serious in gaming.

One question though, can I turn of the mini map? I keep looking and don't see it. Am I outta luck? Its annoying me.

This game has actually gotten me somewhat interested in Transformers in general. I kind of want to try watching the old series, but it probably hasn't aged well.

Beast Wars, Transformers Animated, and Transformers Prime are the watchable shows. Might want to look up some guides to see which episodes you can skip.

If you can excuse some dated CGI, Beast Wars is definitely worth a watch. The first season is somewhat slow, but I still think it's worth viewing, as it lets you it get a general gist of the characters. Seasons 2 is where things kick up into high gear, and it just keeps escalating from there.

Not impossible. I actually found that fight to be easier than just
Menasor
by himself. Since neither of them can use any of they're "environmental" attacks, i.e.
Menasor
's tornado or
Devastator
's mountains. I personally felt it was a bit easier.
Menasor
is, without a doubt, my least favorite fight in the whole game.

Finished my first playthrough on normal last night, started another one on hard focusing only on Optimus. Gotta admit, I like the crafting system way more when you dont have to manage multiple characters like I did for most of the first playthrough. Finally wised up and stuck with bumblebee, but that was by like chapter six.

Pretty much. I just wish enemies wouldn't pop out of combos.

When I start this, I imagine it's best to just focus on crafting for one character per playthrough, right?

Well apparently when you upgrade stats, it upgrades every character's stats. So really in terms of individual characters all you need to do is figure out what weapons and tech you want each character to have.

I really need some S-rank melee weapons; can't get them to drop though. Any tips?

Play on Hard or higher difficulty. I think Very Hard is where they are more common.
If you get a weapon that has RareDrop+ put that onto one of your better or main weapons.

BTW do all skills I get from weapons activate at the same time regardless of which weapon I'm using?

Finished Story Mode on Commander last night. The penultimate battle was great, kind of a shame Platinum didn't have some Armstrong level stuff for the final final battle which felt fairly anticlimactic.

Got some S rank dual blades at last, so back to my boy Sideswipe. Been blitzing Challenge Mode. Just conquered the almighty 21, and just died in the "reach the final level" one which has multiple areas.

I imagine to anyone watching from the outside on these challenges on Commander and above they have no idea how someone controls this shit but... boy do you enter a zone with this game. Possibly more so than any other Platinum game really as theres this rhythm to it all which is more perceivable?

Just finished it. Really enjoyed it. However some odd gameplay moments that try and change it up but end up being a bit shitty. Levels lacked variety which was a shame and it's not that long but there's collectables and Challenge mode to help. Gameplay rocked and presentation was good. Would have loved to have played as Decepticons like the Cybertron games but it's not too much of an issue.

Not as good as the Cybertron games which I miss (although they play much different) but great game anyways. Certainly would like to see another.

Near the end of my Magnus run, not a single SS drop. Sad times. The
Devastator + Menasor
boss fight is too much for me. WTF? How do I do this?

btw what's the purpose of the shockwave blaster? It seems to be an utterly useless weapon.

Holy shit,
Menasor
is in this? I owned the main truck thing of him as a kid. Never got any of the additional guys, though :(

Edit: Sorry, his name is
Motormaster
.

Haha, same reaction. At first I was like "who's this guy", and then the memories hit me. I had the yellow Formula 1 as well (which I loved, it was just a cool design).

Man, I was putting off finishing commander difficulty because I remember
the Devastator/Menasor fight
giving me trouble even though I had 14 auto repair kits saved up. Cleared first try, no repair kits/auto repair kits used.

3 minutes into Magnus difficulty...4 auto repair kits gone, lol damn.

Wonderful 101 and Metal Gear Rising have been my favourite games by Platinum... this seems like an insane combination almost (subject matter, gameplay mash up). How is it stacking up to fans of either of these?

In my opinion here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
-Amazing gameplay when it comes to the combat and mechanics.
-Beautiful cel-shaded art style that pays homage to the original show.
-Cool blend of driving, shooting and melee make the game feel somewhat varied.
-Plenty of weapons, customization and RPG elements to keep the game fresh.
-Challenge Mode for replayability options.

Cons:
-Game is too short to warrant the $50 price tag IMO. While the game is a lot more fun and good looking compared to The Legend of Korra, their lengths are about the same and Korra is only $15. There's plenty of replayability here between the harder difficulty modes and Challenge Mode but it probably should've been $40 not $50.
-Thrown in bird's eye view perspective mission that adds nothing to the gameplay.
-Only a few areas in the whole game, first area is cool but when you realize it's the only real big area in the game you get disappointed.
-Could've done more with the driving and chase missions to make it feel more Platinum, I'm assuming they wanted to make them cooler/bigger but the budget only allowed for so much.
