Transformers: Devastation |OT| Rising in Disguise

Rocking a Dark Star Saber right now with A-ranking; you can dish out some serious damage with ranged sword slashes.

Love the
Oni-Link
sword, I had an A or S ranked one but I sacrificed it... :(

Also, two gunplay-related nuances that are worth repeating in case you missed others in here bringing 'em up before: if you line up a headshot on a (durable) enemy, there's a likelihood you'll trigger a vehicle attack off of it and you can aim your gun after a dodge for some Max Payne-esque bullet time hijinx.

Damn, the only way I could confidently get these to trigger was during the battle with Devastator.
I just redid that fight over and over for the achievement.

I love how in this game I was using some a ranked knuckles and when I got an S ranked hammer I was like "Shit! I don't like the hammer. I need to find some better knuckles!" then I found some SS ranked cutters and was like "Dammit! I gotta find me an SS ranked hammer!"

A thing I found to like about this game is that if you're varied enough and pull lots of the special moves, the scoring for that can easily give you that SS Rank. I get hit lots and even use an item in this video, but my very first Magnus run gave me the highest rank - I was surprised haha.

Headshots are a quick way of triggering this for sure, but just doing enough damage while they're in a knockback state will trigger it as well. I do it quite a few times in the video.

i think i'll try some challenges tomorrow.

Pay attention to the audio cues. Because of the sound that plays every time an enemy is about to attack, TFD is easily the PG game that least suffers from out of screen shenanigans. PG really tried this time to let you know when you're about to be hit, no matter what. It still happens, but man we've come a long way since Metal Gear Rising. :P

yea, i'm trying. they weren't there before and my attention was on that guy. that was a ....pleasant surprise when i dropped instantly.

Hehe.

Also 31 trophies for the PS3 version.

sweet.

Is there a way to QUICKLY level up your stats in the ark? Waiting while those bars get filled up is an utterly ridiculous waste of time.

Nope. Hold Y/Triangle :)

After extensive research and testing, I declare Motormaster's theme to be the best song in the game.

Can't complain to anyone who says otherwise since this entire soundtrack is gold. Fight theme 5 for me personally is incredibly. The guitar is basically Power Rangers.. Again, not gonna disagree either since this soundtrack is well worthy if praise.

I can't pull this off consistently, even dodging ranged attacks. I think it might also be tied to Overdrive, which would also explain why I can't get the melee counters consistently either.

As you're about to dodge, press aim. It's during the frames at which you start the leaping animation to going into witch time.

Man, difficulty is so confusing. Medium feels a bit too soft but hard makes the enemies too strong. When facing Devestator on Hard I could barely do any damage and die in two hits while on medium I finished the fight so quick. How does the rest of the game compare to the start?

Had a chance to play the game for about 90 minutes today, think I left off at Mission 18, and it is okay. Serviceable is the word I think best describes it.
The environments are just so bland. I actually feel like the game would have been way better if they did not insist on making it "open world," and I put that in quotes as it is not really open world as there is nothing to do in the world itself.
I am sure there will be people that really like it I am just not one of those people. It just feels really monotonous already and I just do not care at all about the story or mission objectives.
I do love the cel shaded style for the characters, and the combat is decent enough. Nothing groundbreaking but it serves its purpose.
However the entire package just feels either unfinished and/or deemed to be good enough to release as is to make some money but not earn any accolades.
Glad I rented it. Truth is I would not have purchased it, so I guess I got to check it out when I otherwise would not have done so.
With limited time to game these days I need a game to really compel me. This game does not compel me to keep playing.

People, don't sleep on developing TECH. Get some of dat Lvl.8 dodge and focus time upgrades and wreck shit. Especially if you got Sideswipe's SS twin blades. Awwww yeah. Prime difficulty ain't shit.

Yeah I've been rolling with a lvl 4 focus upgrade since pretty early on and just realized that was half the reason I was doing so much better with Sideswipe :p

The problem with developing T.E.C.H is that Wheeljack seems to out-troll even Rahul, and that is saying something. The good stuff is really good, but you need to swim in an ocean of shit to get it.

Yeah, just finished on Commander! What an awesome game! I actually really enjoyed the
final battle for story purposes (even though the real final battle was the second-to-last).
I loved how many bosses there were in this game.

Moved on to Magnus diff, only to promptly have my arse handed to me in the first few missions. I think I'll do the challenges on Commander first :D

I'm playing through Bayonetta 2 right now and the boss fights are blowing the first game out of the water. It's making it hard for me to wait on picking this up.

I'm really glad getting hit doesn't eff up your rank too much because god damn you can get chained by some ridiculous shit if there's enough fast-moving projectile spammers in play

God damn, challenge #20 on Prime is sensory overload.

Some of these side missions are a lot tougher than the campaign on average if you're ignoring the absurdly overpowered loot alright.

There is a fun trick that doesn't seem to be listed anywhere and I haven't seen it mentioned here (admittedly, there are plenty of pages I gave only a cursory look-over.)

If you keep pressing the transformation button when executing slam or similar vehicle "drop on your enemy" attacks and land on a non-giant enemy, you stay there, revving and burning rubber. It does pretty good damage, even to bosses, and you can turn all the while, aiming the eventual burst forward toward you next hapless foe.

Also, holy shit Crab Milk Mickey.^^^ That is some good dancin'

In all seriousness, when I was a kid watching Transformers in the 80s, I(and I'm sure many other kids) could only have DREAMED of a game like this back then! This is a dream for 80s kids, come true decades later. It almost makes me selfish to want more 80s properties given the same treatment, care and dedication that this has. This is so damn good, gameplay-wise, music, VOs, art-style and overall presentation... DAMN!

That move is in the gif in the op for this thread :p
With my experience it does a fixed amount of damage which is really good when you're doing a first-run of Commander or something. It doesn't seem to scale with your weapon damage

Is there some kind of hidden camera lock-on? Fighting starscream in the freaking void of spacebridge is incredibly irritating

So..the game changes you to Optimus for the final boss fight, but he keeps all the gear that your previous character was using, even gear he can't normally equip.

I massacred
Megatron
with Sideswipe's SS twin blades in Prime difficulty. Holy shit. Not sure why that happened to be honest, Sideswipe has a higher melee attack stat than Optimus.

i want TMNT by P next or a sequel to this. because we're spoiled now.

yup, i think that's the point of that stage. i use the autoaim trick as well.

Any help?

start on warrior if you don't want to deal with commander. you need better loot to do more damage. play the game and get better loot, you can't give better hints than that ;) i started on warrior. commander didn't feel much different afterwards. your levels will carry over.

Started a Magnus run last night, 3rd play through now, decided to go with Bumblebee on this one and thinking I might have made a bad choice, Bumblebee seems pretty weak in damage output and defense, pretty much every hit takes me from full life to barely a spec left, so it's like I am having to do a perfect run otherwise I'm dead in a blink, it's great fun though, completed chapter 2 so moving onto chapter 3 tonight. The SS Sniper Rifle I got just wrecks things though.

I think this game has my Soundtrack of the Year and I haven't even played the game yet.

Does this game have Rising-style parries (push forward and attack)?

It's a Bayonetta parry, not a Rising parry, so you just press forward. I imagine that shouldn't bother you though. There's also an equivalent to Bats Within. Definitely a lot of stuff lifted out of Bayo. Focus doesn't last anywhere near as long as witch time does though.

Man, I crave another game with swords and Rising-style parries.

Thank god they skipped the atrocious lyrics defining the metal poser scene from Rising.
Dig this one actually. Fits really well. Game is surprisingly fun and sometimes plain jaw dropping.
Metal poser scene?

MGRR is the first time metal lyrics worked.

It's true.

Focus can last a decent length if you stick in a level 5 focus duration on your weapon.

I am doing some crazy damage in Magnus with Burn Knuckles that have level 5 focus duration and level 5 focus damage.

ok i'm convinced i just don't have the damage output to do these challenge rooms on commander difficulty. guess i should dive into magnus campaign difficulty for more drops

MORE DROPS
