I don't think that really matters. SF had plenty of characters from countries with no official fighting style or sometimes even ignored it.

Well, it does matter to me as I don't want to see the same countries / styles represented each game ;-)

Zen ending up being another Indian while Buddhism is prominent in a lot of other Asian countries would be quite a bummer to me.That is assuming the name actually implies a link to Buddhism at all of course. If it does, I'd rather see him/her being a Ghurka from Nepal or something.

And regarding the representation of fighting styles in accordance to country: you are correct about it not necessarily mattering all the time. Personally I've always appreciated it when Capcom centered SF around different martial arts inspired characters and in that sense, it does matter somewhat to me if the fighting style and nationality match up to a degree. It's all with a big dose of the fantastical of course, their character designs, but I feel there is still some value in basing a character on such things before "fighting game-ing" them up. Laura is a good example of this I feel, so hopefully Zen will follow suit by being a character with a nationality that fits with a cool martial art.

Akuma and Dan were hidden characters. Alpha 2 added Gen and Sakura and another final fight guest - Rolento. Alpha 3 added in Rainbow Mika and Karin as well as Cody from final fight. Sure, if you go by the PSP game they added in some more sprites from capcom vs snk 2 like eagle and maki and even Ingrid (bleagh) but that last entry is more of a bonus game.

SF alpha is cool and all (I love me some alpha 2) but it's not "classic" like SF2 was and still is.

Likewise, for all those clamoring for SF3 characters - SF3 was only ever popular towards the end of it's life among the hardcore professionals. It's got a cast of oddball freaks or lame SF2 character clones. The handful of good /popular characters in there have pretty much all been represented in USF4 at this point. Dudley, Makoto, Elena and Ibuki will likely come into SF5 at some point but beyond that ? Yun and Yang probably, Alex, Urien, Sean and Q at best. I don't see Twelve , Necro, Oro or Remy ever getting added.

SF4 newbies are even worse off - El Fuerte, C. Viper, Abel, Rufus are all over the place. Juri and Hakkan are actually both kind of neat (Juri is pretty rad in SF4 in all honesty) and beyond that you've got Gouken (I doubt he'll be back, he was a bonus for longtime SF2 fans) and Oni (even more doubtful, he's a bonus hidden boss).

Final Fight Characters might get the shit end of the stick here too - Guy, Cody, Sodom, Rolento, Hugo, Poison. I know lot's of people want Haggar to show up but he is literally a Zangeif clone. A Haggar costume would work just as well.

I'm hoping SFV's story steers away from that Good vs Evil shit and focuses on being a warrior and different philosophies of each fighter..... but...since Bison is in [Which is one of my many mains confirmed]... that shit ain't gonna happen. I just hope it doesn't get Gouken vs Akuma for Ryu's soul or Ties that Bind levels of bad.

I just want to see their display of fighting passion like on a SFA: Generations level. This is one of the reasons I kinda preferred the storylines featured in SFA and SFIII series. It actually didn't feel corny and rival battles being the final boss fight were a great touch to SFIII 2nd Impact, and I think A2 (correct me on that I didn't play it as much.)

He's as much of a literal clone to Zangief as Ken is a literal clone of Ryu (or Sakura or Akuma or Dan). It's not like he's been in SF yet to have a basis for saying that. Charlie and Guile were the closest thing to clones and were actually both in the games, but not the same now in SFV. Going by MvC3, the fact that he's never been in SF to have an SF moveset and the way they changed Zangief for V, there's no basis to call them clones yet. There's plenty of room to give him his own take on the SPD and lariat in SFV.

I'm fully with you on this. Bring on more personal stories between characters based around martial arts rivalries and leave out the B-movie Interpol vs Shadaloo / SIN / Illuminati / *insert evil organisation of the week* type story arcs. Those always put the focus on only a handful of the same characters and they never really lead anywhere. Better to keep these kind of plotlines in the background for most characters I'd say. Oh and Ryu and his dark hadou can also take a backseat as well this time if it would be up to me; we've seen it played out with Evil Ryu and Akuma/Oni already.

Eh..... Man Charlie was so much better in my imo. Guile is like the only SB/FK character i don't like outside of MVC2.

Charlie has better normals, movements, and god Somersault is so much better than Flashkick imo.

OK, yeah, that was a hasty comparison, but it was mostly to show that the same couple specials do not make characters clones, especially if you bring a character into the series for the first time in SFV, like Haggar would be.

Yes. Alpha 2 Had the best story in the SF games.

out of all fighters, I think Blazblue has the Best story mode template.
 
I want a good keep away Dhalsim.

Guile or Sakura are not out of the question. Originally I thought that Zangief and Sakura were going to be among the first DLC chars, given how Nash, R. Mika and Karin were in the initial roster, but now that Zangief was announced, the "rivals" for Nash and R. Mika seem more probable to make it too. At least one of them.
