Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

Meh, as an SFIII fan, I don't really care at this point. While yes I have most of my non-SFIII mains in SFV it kinda sucks to have no Day 1 Yun/Yang/Necro/Remy/Sean, but at the same time, the way Capcom, and most people are who skipped over SFIII/3rd it really doesn't matter. 3S, is just a gem. In my eyes it was one of the greatest achievements in 2D fighting design that isn't Garou or Vanguard Princess and along with a lot of great things I loved and enjoyed sometimes it takes a while to be appreciated, sometimes these things never will. SFIII/3S falls into the pit of tragedy that never will. But at the same time I'm alright with that. Everyone likes certain entries for certain reasons. I look at games like 3S as a time when Capcom wasn't afraid to do their own thing and attempt to create a unique and quality game as opposed to how alienated I felt with SFIV when they chose to go towards a safe route and try to please everyone. It succeeded, and gained a greater reception than III, although many can argue why 3S is a better game.

I mean yeah I loved the fact that after they created the foundation they evolved and took it to the next level while shedding all of that from the past, but they feel it's not the best or profitable route to take in the future of Street Fighter. It is what it is. Support the games you love.

Also there's DLC so you never know.

Dudley's my favorite character. But I don't take needing to wait for him as Capcom hating me.

Hey, you got Dudley recently! I think people are clamoring for the characters that haven't seen the light of day since 1999 (or in Alex's case, 2008).

He's my favorite as well. Although we're look lucky in that regard because he's probably the 2nd most popular 3rd Strike character. I feel bad for Twelve and Remy fans.
Twelve and Remy .... fans?

And I love Remy in a gameplay sense. But his dated Euro-Punk "I hate fighting, wanna fight?" attitude needs some work for him to become likable design-wise.

You know damn well it's not because of the SFIV exclusive characters.
The games with Rufus, Viper, Abel and Fuerte sold millions and reinvigorated the franchise. Their playstyle mist have clicked with the millions of people who bough the SFIV series.

Or, people buy SF games to play as the same 12 characters that have been popular since the early 90s in a familiar fighting system. Could be either one.

SF4 fans aren't getting anything either but you don't see them throwing a fit and you're guaranteed the inclusion of SF3 characters just like every revision of 4. Get over it.

That's because even SF4 fans know that that game's new challengers were terrible (sans Juri) and are more likely fans of the SF3 cast in that game.

Lmao @ a bit of an oversight.

Alex and Urien are gonna be DLC right out of the gates. It's weird that the "fake list" is literally the whole cast plus Alex, Sim and Urien. It's even weirder that there's no 3s or Illuminati representation in the cast considering how early the new Nash was revealed.

They probably pulled back to make the DLC roll out smoother for the first year, to make sure they can deliver content regularly without unforeseen hiccups causing delays for new characters etc.

SF3's popularity isn't as big as some people seem to think it is.

I think the fact that this keeps getting brought up is proof that SF3 characters are MORE popular than many of YOU think.

The exact same thing happened in SF4. They left SF3 characters out of the vanilla version, and people complained to the point that Ono finally had to address it. Then, viola, EVERY new version of SF4 after vanilla brought more and more SF3 characters.

SSF4- Dudley, Mak, Ibuki
AE- Yun, Yang
Ultra- Elena, Hugo

Fast forward to 2015, and the exact same thing is still happening. They leave out SF3 characters in the vanilla version, and people complain. Ono straight up tells us that he's received lots of requests for Alex, to the point that he has to address it publicly.

Yet, people are still trying to downplay the popularity of these characters.

I think it's evidence that the hardcore fans that played 3s are now very vocal on message boards and social media.

Couldn't have put it better

No shit Remy would be great.

- Not over muscular

- Not blonde

- Better guile than guile

- KOF is deader than dead so Iori lives on

I'm in.

I hate that they added Poison to ultra and now we ll see her come back in 3 years :( ..

By the way, who is that guy, anyway? I doubt he's Zen. He looks like came from KOF: Maximum Impact. Maybe the boss of SFV?

I suppose there's a chance he could be the boss, but my gut tells me that it's a bit of silly world building.

But backgrounds have been teases before...
and now, right Alex?

I like you.
I feel ya, I ain't trippin tho.
Yet, people are still trying to downplay the popularity of these characters.

For many people characters make the game. And since people still repeat the rhetoric of SF3's popularity in arcades in comparison to SFII,Alpha, Vs., that must mean the SF3 characters ain't all that popular either.

But then they beg for them in entries >_>
While I'm satisfied with the roster especially thanks to SFV's system making even the WW's tolerable, I wouldn't mind if SFV had a completely new roster.

Well, I think at the very least he was a character design for V at one point. He has a distinctive look, seemingly has ice powers, and a name all on a barely visible billboard.

I love pretty much anything with an ice theme so I'd be super down if he became an actual character. Or maybe it's actually Remy's sister who got ice powers from the whole ordeal. The lore!!!

So it's a 'bit of an oversight' to ignore an entire roster of characters and alienate their respective fans? Fuck off.

Yeah, I'm a bit bummed out too, especially because the first trailer for V featured such a strong allusion to III's Illuminati with Nash and his gem. Surely they must have realized that many people would take that as a sign that this game's story would connect to III and as such expect Alex or Urien to show up?

Well, there you go. No SFIII fighters in the initial roster. Capcom seems unaware of the Alex and Urien fandom out there.

I really want to doubt that they are not aware of this. Combofiend and the guys over at Capcom USA and here in the UK definitely must know about many people's love for III's cast, and how Nash's gem instantly reminded us of Urien and Gill. Whether they can relay this message to Capcom Japan is a different matter of course.

Also, after their apparent decision to put Birdie in order to bring back a character who is not really loved but in their eyes is deserving of a comeback, the fact whether Alex and co are popular or not may not have really played such a big part in their selection procedure anyway. Though at the same time, if that last bit was really the case, it becomes even weirder that they accidentally did not put in any of III's cast (instead of consciously leaving them out for now...which I think they have done perhaps for story reasons).

Whatever the case, I sure hope they got the message by now.

Also, it's really weird how our discussions about V have led us to a place where some of us feel the need to defend III's qualities to fellow SF fans while others write it off completely. You'd think that all SF fans would at least try to see the value in all games within their beloved series, if only for the simple fact that you'd trust the creators (at the time) to make the best fighting game they could. The sole fact that Capcom and its designers and artists put their stamp of approval on III and its cast has always been reason enough for me to try it at least. Now I like it equally if not slightly more than II and Alpha, and I still see the value in those two series as well. Oh well, the internet is the internet I guess.

No, we actually have worldwide data which also shows that SF3 characters are more popular than you think.

Like actual data used by the company itself proves it.

Ah, then that explains their absence from the starting roster.

I don't think popularity polls are useful as "data," myself, since so much can influence people's voting.

But whatever. :)

Last post on the matter, you crazy 3s fans. You'll get your characters eventually!

That was from an online poll where the likeliest people to vote were hardcore fans. I love the III series but I honestly don't believe Q is one of the most popular characters in Street Fighter (although he is one of the most popular in my heart).
