Opening of the trailer gave me some real Guardians of the Galaxy vibes too

Which is nice, perhaps a small nod, maybe thats the opening of the film?

Would love to see Rey dance around to vintage Cantina music as the title comes up

The entire goddamned thing was amazing.

But this was the point that I got choked up.

Luke obviously isn't along for the action, but HAN is. And why does the empire still exist? I thought they beated the empire?

Space is fairly large, I'm sure there were still enough Imperial stragglers that they mustered up a new offensive.

Also
I hope that fucking script that was leaked isn't real

Can we please not mention the prequels in here? This thread is for the real Star Wars fans. Everyone else can just leave

Oh piss off, you leave.

After all, this won't be real Star wars for you as soon as a throw-away line you don't like is uttered or a coreohraphy looks fake if you put in slow motion and run a frame by frame analisys.

I'm trying to have fun here. Star wars fans will discuss the prequels, the originals, the trailer, the EU, the clone wars, and rebels. deal with it

the design in the slow establishing shots and general lack of JJ wacky cam wankery (lens flares excepted) was stirring and wonderful and then they had to start talking. the foreboding callback was like some anime bollocks "yes those thingswas true, those things all happened"

That was great and makes it feel respected and historic.

Someone who has continually associated himself with known hacks like Orci and Kurtzman doesn't really care about "greatness." So no, I don't think Abrams has it in him. He'll keep on cranking out his moderately enjoyable if not particularly interesting blockbusters and that'll be it.

Harsh man. They've done much more than most of us have or will do though.

Uh, GotG vibes?
I got none of that.

This movie is super serious with some serious themes going on.

Ugh I've been trying to buy Thursday night IMAX tickets for the past 30 minutes but all the sites keep crashing before I check out.

This trailer 100% proves that wrong.

Kylo's
parentage I could see being that
but honestly I think it's just that
the empire and republic have a cold war going and the empire has closed borders. And what better insurrection symbol than to just be the rebel alliance again?

There were only five Force users during the OT (that we know of). Two of them were in hiding, one was only active for a brief period. The Emperor was an enigma. Vader was probably notorious, but not because he was a fiend with the Force.

And it's not just myth. A lot of people in the Republic probably know about it, or have heard the stories, but the only dude who can actually claim to be a Jedi is AWOL. People like Rey living out in the sticks have only heard hearsay from stuff that happened lightyears away, decades ago. Not that much of a leap.

But during the clone wars Jedi were known to literally everyone. Barely even one generation and they've become unicorns? I get it for ancient civilizations but these are star faring civilizations who record history and share information

Should also say while the "we're home" line was a bit cheesy and one off Fords dialogue and delivery is fucking on point.

So glad

Don't let GAF ruin your hype for this movie like it has done to you for MCU movies.

Believe in JJ to do this right.

Nah, I'm like one of maybe five people on this board that doesn't trust Abrams with Star Wars :-P

But it'll all be ok as long as I'm wrong about Abrams. And maybe being surprised in the theater will make me love the movie all the more. One of the last things I wanted out of episode VII though is pandering to nostalgia, something Abrams is often prone to do. This trailer with what seems to be a vader fanatic as the villain appears to point in that direction.

I haven't read any leaked spoilers though so maybe I'm completely, 100% wrong! But either way, I don't want to know until I actually see it in theaters so please, no one ruin it for me :-)

Honestly it's bc a lot of people just want to see the original cast and Luke isn't being shown. You can draw your own conclusions to why he isn't, but people are just throwing shit at the wall when it comes to him.

Actualy i dont beleive he is Kylo but maybe join the Dark Side and is with him. Its not Kylo we see say " i will finish what you start" , its another dude with another mask... Which might be ...Luke?

Didn't the rebels defeat the Empire 30 years ago and reinstate the Republic? What the hell is going on? D:

Also, if you pause at 1:40, the cloaked figure's hand...

Luke obviously isn't along for the action, but HAN is. And why does the empire still exist? I thought they beated the empire?

It's not really the empire but a reorganization of the empire. Think of it as if the Nazis rebuilt in Argentina with new generation mixed in with some veterans and then they became a threat again.

My wife, who is not a Star Wars fan at all, really liked this trailer.

And bonesmccoy, who is a Star Wars fan, did too!

Mission accomplished, LFL.

WTF....

I'm a star wars fan and I absolutely enjoyed the prequels. Granted, they're not as good as the OT but still..

Oh piss off, you leave.

I'm trying to have fun here.

in all seriousness, id probably rather watch the prequels than the originals.

Council your joke was really good.

heh.

Thread already shitted up with major unmarked spoilers. Yup, fuck this. Back to blackout I guess. This is why we can't have nice things.
