Ok, I posted a couple of pages back, but I've watched it a dozen or so times since.
- I think Rey will be our Luke. She's the first person we see in the full trailer. She's central on the poster. As much as the PT was Anakin's story, the OT Luke's...this ones her's. Like Anakin and Luke, I can see her struggling to find her place in the universe, unsure what's she's meant to be doing. I think this film will set her on the path, and like Anakin and Luke, I think she will have both sides of the force speaking to her.
- Finn will be number two, by her side. The two of them have had the most exposure, and whilst Issac has been heavily billed, I just don't know if he will be as integral to this story. Given his billing, I wouldn't be surprised if VIII and IX feature him more heavily.
- The lack of conviction when Finn is facing Kylo, the fear...I'm not convinced he's our Jedi...but I think they want us to think he is. I think he's the type that's found a family in our heroes, and wants to protect them. My guess is he picks the lightsaber up out of instinct, and not because he knows what he's doing.
- Speaking of lightsaber, we've seen it being given to Rey...another reason why I think Finn is a case of misdirection. The way the second teaser was shot and paced, I think there's a link between Luke and Rey. Daughter maybe, or maybe niece.
- I loved the shot of Poe and Finn crossing paths, if only because it looked like a real set! PT would have had the entire thing green screen.
- I really want to know more about the Knights of Ren...but I'm curious as to who will provide the insight. It wasn't until ESB that Yoda and Obi-Wan would help sculpt Luke's knowledge in the ways of the force, so I'm wondering if we won't get too much information into that. Maybe there's a hell of a lot not shown (obviously), but to me it seems this film will be the old cast passing the baton, and the new cast being assembled and inserted into the world.
- Where's Luke? One of the most iconic surnames in cinematic history, and he's not on the poster, or in any of the trailers. We know he's in the film, but apart from what seems to be his hand, nothing else. Someone said earlier in the thread, but I can imagine Han is our Obi-Wan, and Luke will be the Yoda. Even if they save him for the very last shot, just please give us a chance to see fully trained badass Luke, at least before he goes all force ghost on us.
- Rey's tears...that body. I want to say it's Solo, but the hair is wrong. It's a quick cut, and I haven't paused it yet, but I seem to make out an ear, so I don't think it's Chewwie. I'm expecting all of the old cast to "pass the baton" over the course of the next three films. Anyone know how many films they each signed on for?
- The score....just, sweet Jesus that hits you. The most powerful part of the trailer.
It's amazing how a trailer can show so little about the story, and yet hit all the right notes. I never normally do midnight showings, but I may just try it this time.
