I like the moment where Finn is all confidence with his lightsaber, then Kylo turns his on and there's a pants crapping moment

These are still two people that are not as well trained as most people in saber fights we've seen, so I wonder if it will be a noob slog fest. That could be even more exciting though if it's more visceral and less precise. And hopefully no waltzing

I know Adam Driver is about 6'3, but how he's filmed here makes him look about 7'2.

Everyone being connected to the main characters. It's a big universe, could we please have protagonists who aren't one of the OTs protags father’s brother’s nephew’s cousin’s former roommate.

That's what the movies outside of the main line films are for. Starwars mainline films is the story of the Skywalkers for the most part.

Pretty boring trailer.

So this new Stars Wars has a black lead, and a woman lead? Is this ensemble now, or is there a central protagonist like Luke?

Rey (Ridley), Finn (Boyega), and Poe (Isaac) are the three leads in the same way Luke, Han, and Leia were the leads of the original trilogy. It sounds more and more likely that Rey fits into the Luke role of central protagonist though.

Every time I see it all I can think of it going this way:

Finn: Come on punk, I'm going to mess yo up.
Kylo: Kilkillkillkillkillkill *Turns on lightsaber*
Finn: OHSHIT.

We don't know if it happens that way. Note that when Finn looks scared his saber is actually still igniting. So theres two separate ignitions. They might be out of order. He might be scared at first but then later in the fight gains confidence for some reason. Maybe he gets help or Ren fucks up.

Mmm, I don't think that's two ignitions. The blade just looks like it's getting longer because he's bringing the tip up.

By 'more trailers' I assume you mean more trailers for franchise films that already have a built in fan base?

What does the fan base have to do with it?

Is there a reason we need exposition in a trailer?

I honestly don't get the criticism that it doesn't reveal enough of what's happening.

Surprised to hear Oscar Isaac is a lead. I thought he'd be in it with a minor role or something when I saw him. So we have two young people, and one middle-aged dude. I'd agree with you then. If there are three leads, then the girl must be the central role. It'd make sense. I take it we have two Jedi this time since Finn, aka previously dubbed black guy, was using a lightsaber, and Isaac fills the normal person role like Han. Central protagonist obviously isn't going to be some normal person.

Plus, I'm betting she's Luke's daughter. She's white. It fits. Or she could be Han and Leia's daughter. That way she'd still have the power, and my death prediction for one of those would have further impact. Emotional stakes become further raised.

You killed my father mother and all that. Then Luke will be like, "No, little girl. I AM YOUR FATHER!"

Then she can be like you killed my auntie uncle or something. Still works.

This shot in the trailer intrigues me:

Notice how angry Rey is in this shot. She looks pissed, as if seeking revenge. This might be just after she was seen crying. Notice how the light of the blaster casts a red glint in her eyes, making her look menacing. Also notice the color of her blaster fire. It's red like a that of a sith's light saber.

A coincidence or clever foreshadowing?

they are definitely playing a game with Rey, her placement on the poster is interesting too.

The revenge bit makes sense. Seems to be a reference to the scene in the original where Luke starts shooting at the Stormtroopers after Obi-Wan dies.

Let's be honest. Han Solo is gonna die. But they'll keep Chewie around.

he'll be all

rrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

which translates to

I love you new alive friends I don't even remember the other guys

What a set of teeth. Even the bottom ones are perfect.

Han was supposed to die in ROTJ before Lucas chickened out. I doubt Ford would even have signed on if he had to do another three movies.

Real talk though - killing Han in ROTJ would have been stupid as hell, especially the way they were theorizing on how to kill him.

I thought the old Jedi were destroyed, but that doesn't prevent a kid who may be force sensitive to become one (like Luke or Starkiller). And some Jedis from the old republic just went into hiding.

They would not know what it was without someone to tell them.
They would think that they could do weird things, or weird things happened around them or that they were lucky.
The Jedi went into hiding yes, but then were hunted relentlessly into nothingness for the next decades after the rise of the empire until there was only fragmented remains who had hidden and repressed their natures for so long that even they did not know anymore.

I'm really loving the knights of ren from what little we've seen.

I love that they have unique armour and weapons (and the fact that they're not all melee weapons), and it's not just a load of red cross sabers, it just looks interesting and makes Kylo stand out way more.

Maybe it's Han that appears to be dead. Sacrificed himself against Ren to save them? Finn picks up the saber but he's not trained nor a Jedi to defend them well enough. They get saved.
