Star Wars: The Force Awakens Final Trailer

I'm going to spoil tag all of this. It is my speculation for what is happening in the movie with what I've seen from the trailers. And for the record, ive only watched the trailers. Haven't read anything else or whatever.

So, it looks like the opening of the movie will be 3 pieces. 1 will be the creation of the New Order that I'm guessing the Empire folds into after losing the Battle of Endor and likely losing many battles after that. New leadership is formed and a new army is raised. From this final trailer, it looks like on the snow planet they are protecting something, something with trenches. Could it be a new super weapon? This new villian I guess went on a hunt for the remains of Vader and built a sort of shrine out of it and is hell bent on finishing what Vader started, which was the erradication of all known Jedi. No doubt he has no clue that Vader turned back to good at the very end. Luke probably didn't tell too many people that. I'm wondering who trains him, if anyone. Maybe he finds the old remains, trains himself, and creates his own makeshift saber.

The 2nd part is what is going on with Finn. It looks like he was born and raised as a soldier of the Empire and trained to be a Stormtrooper. Perhaps one day he learns of the new Sith being formed and hears / see's something he just doesn't like. He steals a Tie Fighter from the Destroyer he is on and makes a run for it. Queue the scenes of the Tie Fighter inside the hanger blasting away at Stormtroopers. Then the scene where the Destroyer clips the wing of the Tie Fighter and he is sent tumbling down to Jakku. He lands on Jakku and queue the very first shot we ever saw in a trailer, him popping into frame breathing heavily. He is lost in the desert and stumbles across the little village that Rey either works or lives at. I'm thinking Rey is out scavenging the Star Destroyer remains when she sees the Tie Fighter crash and races back to town to inform everyone . Either she goes and finds Finn or Finn stumbles into the place. Him doing so brings the New Order down on this place and queue the scene where we see the Tie Fighters destroying things while Rey and Finn run away. Tragedy strikes as most likely someone Rey loves is killed in this attack.

The main question is where does Han fit into all this. Is he Rey's father and when he is informed by Rey of what is going on ( or has sensors and detects the Star Destroyer and Fighters incoming )? It seems like either Han comes to Rey and Finn's aid or Rey and Finn somehow escape the carnage and make it back to Han. So they all, including Chewbacca, go to where the Millinium Falcon is and board it. Queue the escape sequence involving the Falcon and the Tie Fighters going through the ship graveyard.

The last trailer seemed to have a bunch more story pieces that kind of piece together a few other things. Like Rey ( im guessing who that is at the very beginning ) seemingly inside a crashed vehicle, quite large, im guessing the star destroyer or another big ship in the graveyard area. But why? Does someone tell her something is there worth searching for? And then you have Finn who is suddenly a part of the Rebel fleet section, dunno how that happens. I'm guessing he lets them all know he is a great pilot or something. Maybe he is in the fight at the end parts of the last trailer and crashes and is sensed by Kylo Ren and confronted. Maybe.

My guess is Finn is not force sensative but someone comes across the Saber he is holding. Maybe he is Force Sensative though, just with absolutely no idea and no training. As I thought Kylo finds him due to him having some strength in the force. I think Rey is the one who is REALLY powerful in the force and who will be the main character of the films. She seems to mirror Luke's intro exactly. The pilot I'm thinking is Han's kid, but who knows, and could potentially be force sensative too, but doubtful.

So while the opening is going to be 3 different sections. Somewhere they all come together in the end, in classic star wars fashion.

In the end, it is all incredibly intruiging and looks to be a great film. CANT WAIT

These days? Empire's generally been considered the best of the OT for over 30 years...

And it's not like ANH didn't have some grim shit going on in that film.

ESB isn't considered the best just because it's darker, however. It's because it took the first film and didn't repeat it, instead it went deeper and expanded on the concepts and characters started in ANH, while keeping true to them.

It also has by far the strongest writing/directing of the series so far. Luckily Episode 8 has Rian Johnson writing/directing, so there is a real possibility Episode 8 is the strongest of the sequel trilogy too (the opposite of the prequels where 2 was the weakest).

Makes it so strange they are apparently making him CGI for rogue one

During that time period he needs to look like this:

400

They don't have the cover of him being a lot younger to make him look different.

Does he know that Vader is Anakin?

He suspects but probably does not know. Maybe he did though, he was a smart cookie.

I think you can forgive an impression, I dont think time has ever looked kindly on CGI humans, even things great for their time, inevitably, age.

The poster I was responding to specifically referred to a happy ending like in ANH. That was about as straightforward a happy ending as you could possibly hope for. In fact I've heard film historians comment that one of the reasons Star Wars was such a success was because it was such a positive, uplifting movie when seen in comparison to Hollywood's output in the early-mid 70's which was often more grounded and sometimes (especially sci-fi) depressing.

Yes, we all love ESB, but that was conceived as Act 2 of a 3 act play. Things have to get bad before the characters can win in Act 3. Star Wars hasn't started their trilogies off on the dark note, so the poster is asking why anyone would want that for this movie.

That weird looking dude that makes a brief cameo is supposed to be Tarkin, yes.
No, he isn't a clone. He's just 20 years younger.
You learn something new every day. Never occurred to me that the random dude was suppose to be Tarkin. Never paid attention since he just walks away during that shot.

I still think this Episode 1 trailer is the best Star Wars trailer of all time.

It made the movie seem very different than what it actually was; it presented the movie as if it had an actual, focused, plot. Great editing and use of John Williams' score. It's a tour de force.

I wanted to post something similiar

in my opinion, all prequel trailers were FAR better than the TFA trailer. they had so many great quotes in them. I watched them to death. I don't have the same urge with the new one. it looks cool and all, the movie will very likely be much better than the prequels, but the trailer is not as great as the prequel ones.

of course when we watch the TPM trailer today we can't help but think of how bad all those scenes really are, but damn they worked fantastically in that trailer. it really blew my mind. maul's double saber alone beats the TFA trailer.

Honestly, I'd be very okay if it followed the same theme as the original trilogy where it starts off like A New Hope all happy, magical, etc, then followed by the darker, bleaker Empire Strikes Back and such.

For a genuine trilogy, that's pretty much the only way to go.

Just as the end of the second act is the darkest, bleakest point in any movie, so should the end of the second movie be in a trilogy.

Tarkin in Ep.III is played by Wayne Pygram. Sci-Fi fans may know him best as Scorpius from Farscape (only one of the best TV Sci-Fi villains in the history of television).

I like the prequels for the most part and I even think 3 is one of the best episodes if not my personal favorite but... we're at this place now where optimism is high, the probability of good performances and better writing exists, and while there will always be stupidity and nitpicking over trivial things... well, you know what I'm saying. This feels awesome. So many people who don't claim to be fans thinks it looks like a great movie. That's so cool. Like with videogames becoming more accepted in society instead of this frowned upon thing, Star Wars just feels super culturally relevant.

Sure, it's always been this super popularly massive franchise, but with the prequel disappointment behind us and society in general finding things that were once largely considered lame or too nerdy--such as with the popularity of live-action comic films-- I just feel like things are in a much better place now and liking and being excited about a new Star Wars movie is a lot more fun than it used to be as fewer people frown upon it due to the times.

I'm rambling but beer is a hell of a thing. I've been there during the special editions, the prequels... not quite old enough to have been there for the originals but I just know to me that this feels different and in a good way. And it's awesome.

They really should not have shown the double ended lightsaber in the trailers. It's framed as, and would have been a total holy shit moment in the film if no one knew it was coming.. The film totally hides that it's two sabers in one until the final duel. The more reserved marketing for TFA is good, we haven't seen nearly half the characters at all and know nothing of the plot.
That trailer made TPM seem like a war movie nearly. Certainly a more exciting film than the one we got, and it's the one was was expecting when I got to the cinema in 1999, and was wondering where that movie was when they were sitting around on Tatooine or a senate room nattering.

This has probably been discussed a gazillion times already but the thread is huge....

Anyway, could the absence of Luke Skywalker mean he's the bad guy in the mask, basically continuing what his father started?

You're very right about the first point but very wrong about the second :p

Yeah, it makes it look like she's the one holding a red lightsaber too

Harrison Ford right in the middle? Ugh.

Cautious about this. I somewhat dislike JJ Abram films so. Hopefully this will be good or grear and not average with people screaming: ZOMG STAR WARS FORCE AWAKENS WAS SOOOOOOO GOOD!11!!!1! This happened with the prequels. (Except the prequels were not average but bad)

Luke's not Kylo Ren.

Mark Hamill didn't grow a badass Jedi beard just to hide it behind a mask for a movie.

Or to not be in the movie at all...

I remember last night that there was something about Kylo Ren's voice that struck me as being weird...so I just rewatched the trailer and then I realized something.

Tome he sounds like Xerxes from 300. Can't unhear it :(.

That's probably just me though.

You'll get that at first, it happens all the time with big movies. I guarantee there will be a thread here posting Twitter impressions where someone says it's the best Star Wars film ever.

To all the people who already spoiled themselves and are dropping these vague comments about the script: you are either less clever than you think you are, or are underestimating the intelligence level of others. Just one cryptic comment can be the missing piece to figuring out plot points, so please either stop or return to the spoiler thread from whence you came.

Dude I am totally with you one this. Some people in this thread posted unmarked vague spoiler hint shit that actually led to me figuring something big out and I'm pretty unhappy about it.

Without their comment filling in that last piece of the puzzle I would have continued to live in blissful ignorance.

There is a spoiler thread for a reason.
