No, Vader rejects the sith and returns to his Jedi roots before dying. That's what the title refers to.
Or, at least, I think it's a lot more powerful that way.

Yes, you can take the title to mean multiple things if you want, but it was concieved and implemented to solely be a reference to Luke Skywalker. That's it. He is the Jedi that is Returning.

You guys seriously think that the signed directors for VIII and IX will have lots of creative freedom when making these films? I seriously doubt that. This is way too big for Disney.
And the Ewoks, who are naturally Force-sensitve due to a high natural midichloriancount in their bloodstream.

That was the original title, but it got changed because lucas thought the idea of a jedi pursuing revenge went against their ideals iirc.
I think even that title name could refer to Luke or Anakin, but RotJ is clearly meant to refer to luke.

Yeah, I think they'll have a decent amount of freedom. It sounds like JJ and Lawrence Kasdan have with the Force Awakens. Disney have and will have a hands-off approach with Lucasfilm, as they have with Marvel.
And Johnson did direct a few episodes of one of the most critically acclaimed TV shows in Breaking Bad, so he's obviously quite well regarded.

Rian Johnson is a more exciting and creative director than JJ. Looper is fantastic, Ozymandias is one of the best TV episodes ever made, Brick is amazing. He wasn't hired to be a yes man, he was hired for his talents.

Im not saying he HAS to be Force sensitive, just saying, he's the best pilot in the galaxy therefore it wouldn't be a stretch to suggest that he is force sensitive.

I dont think you can have a skywalker that isnt, if Anakin is truly conceived through some force methods imagine being the only skywalker in existence with no powers.

Disney isn't telling Lucasfilm what to do or how to do it on a creative level.
Just like they don't for Marvel. Or Pixar.
Or ESPN or ABC.

I've got some ideas stewing, but I make no promises on whether I'll be able to finish it.

I always viewed it as Ben being an asshole and throwing a tantrum because Luke wouldn't do what Ben wanted.
In one of the drafts, Ben is actually physically reincarnated and travels with Luke to the Emperor's throne room on Had Abbadon, although he pretty much doesn't do anything so it's kind of pointless. And Yoda's Force ghost pops in and out of existence to deflect Palpatine's Force lightning.
I'm glad they turned it into what it is.
