Halo 5 Multiplayer Coverage! (no campaign spoilers)

Found a local shop breaking street date, is it safe to play online already? I'm in Europe if that matters. I seem to remember reading about people getting banned for playing games early on 360, is that still a thing?

You won't be able to play multiplayer, but you can play campaign just fine.

Nope, still 5sk.

Bummer, but I guess that's ok.

yes and i'm fine with that, I would always use the pistol in Reach because it was enjoyable and rather good there too but seeing people pistol battle across the entire map seems a little too good, the pistol just needs a touch of change to bring it down a tiny bit.

I say leave it as is for at least month to see how the meta develops. Personally, I like spawning with a weapon that can kill no matter what.

important thing to note about BR vs Pistol

With the BR, you can thrust immediately after firing and then fire again without losing any time between shots. So you have more mobility when using the BR to lands its optimal kill time.

The pistol fires faster, so if you use thruster with it, you're losing DPS by missing an opportunity to shoot. So in a Pistol vs BR situation, the BR user still has advantages.

The difference then of course is that the Pistol can miss 2 shots and still beat the BR if the BR misses once.

Can you elaborate a little more please?

As an AR noob: yes we do. Anything's better than spawning without a weapon you can comfortably use at all, which is what BR/Pistol starts would be. New ranking system puts similarly skilled players together, so those that can't aim keep using the AR, as they learn to aim, begin using the pistol in more and more cases. BR starts impose a minimum skill level to enjoy the game.

This.

Yes.
Im fine if i can defend myself at close and a bit to midrange. But i think a pistol shouldnt win over a rifle over long range.

The time between a BR burst is roughly the duration of a Thrust; therefore, you have two opportunities in a BR duel to change your direction and still hit its optimal kill time. If there was no cool down, you would able to do it between every burst.

The length of time that a Pistol can fire two shots is the same duration as a Thrust; therefore, if you Thrust while using the pistol, your optimal kill time is technically extended because that's two shots you just gave up to Thrust.

So in a BR vs Pistol duel, the BR user is more mobile because they can Thrust between shots. If the Pistol user Thrusts between shots, it loses its optimal kill time advantage over the BR.

The flip side of this is that the Pistol user can afford to miss twice while the BR user thrusts, and they might trade if the BR user lands all 4 shots. However, if the BR user misses once, the Pistol will still beat them.

So if Pistol fires 6 and misses twice, it'll tie with a BR if BR lands all 4 shots
If Pistol fires 6 times and misses twice, it'll beat BR if BR misses once

This is what someone told me though. I don't have exact times so it could be off by a few milliseconds.

Thanks for the explanation - makes a lot of sense actually. Would love to see how this plays out over an extended amount of time.

been watching the streams quite a lot, and god damn the pistol is strong

Watching snip3down play ctf on fathom running the flag in the final seconds of the match and the game ends as he is literally 10 feet from tying it up. No sudden death?

didn't they remove sudden death? In Halo 4, it went into overtime if the score was tied, but didn't sudden death if you were holding the flag (unless it was overtime IIRC)

I dunno. They are having a lot of issues with a player losing connection, so it actually may have been that. Uh oh

I hope so. Pistol shouldnt act like a primary rifle.

Its like i would run around with a Deagle in BF4 and kill everything.

Nope.

Why shouldn't it? It's the model that bothers you?

It functions perfectly in Halo's sand box. This isn't Battlefield. In skilled hands it's the perfect utility weapon to spawn with... Not quite as effective at mid range as a rifle, but it can hold its own...

If folks with DMRs are dying in long range conflict with pistol users, it's because the pistol user is more skilled... And that's how the dynamic should be...

In this case, the game just ended when the timer hit zero. It wasn't a dropped connection.

It was a custom game, though, so maybe the setting wasn't set.

I have played 9 matches now ( Europe) and have nothing to complain about. Even with a very low playercount everything went smooth, no lagg, no connection failures. Impressive

Yeah, that could be it. Thanks. Pistol looks sooo good. Plaza looks interesting. Would love to see a match that isn't swat on it.

The guy on snip3down's stream with connection issues is on his end, stop freaking out people :) he's the only one having issues.

That doesn't necessarily mean it isn't a halo issue. But yeah, I'm not freaking out just yet.

Yea. I understand being a little skeptical but at this time before MCC's launch we knew something big was up. People couldn't connect to matches at all and most were just saying "oh it's because the current playerbase is so small, etc."

Most that have access right now are joining and playing matches just fine. Launch day may have some hiccups like a lot of big online games have but the game seems to works just fine.

Yeah watching their streams it appears it's on his side. It's like the one buddy everyone has that is always failing to join party or getting the boot the last second of a mission lol.
