Star Wars: The Force Awakens Final Trailer

I don't it's just the CG in the prequels but that color design and cinematography was off. Most of the parts just looked like a tv series which gave everything that cheap touch.

Maybe a result of early digital recording, dunno.

iirc Episode 2 was shot on digital cameras with a horrendously low resolution..

Oh man, fully CGI clone troopers. That was so terrible. I'm glad the storm troopers we've seen in the TFA trailers are like, actual people this time.

After checking some of the old stuff I just realize that the light sabers are now casting a colored light unlike in the OT and PT.

that blue/red glow, right? Yeah I kinda dig that. I mean...they're big beams of light, they should reflect on the characters a bit

Plus its at night outside, so the glow is welcome to see the actors faces. I imagine this scene wouldn't be the same if we couldn't see Finn's "oh shit" reaction.

And I noticed lighting up snowflakes and raindrops, as they should. There's also a shot of Rey firing a blaster and the laser blast reflects in her eyes. SO much attention to detail that just improves the visuals so much. Can't tell from these shots but I hope the lightsabers actually burn up raindrops they hit and create small puffs of steam, if there's ever a moment static enough to really see it. Would be so cool.

To be fair, Yoda was also using one of those robes in the OT.

And also hiding, using a space hobo disguise to avoid getting another beatdown from Sheev.
The prequels even managed to ruin that by showing us actual space hobos.

My favorite part of Attack of the Clones was when Anakin and Padme are suppozed to be having some kind of romantic conversation, and it became apparent after a minute or two that what they were saying was meaningless, like verbal white noise to fill up space, and that not even if it had been written by a 14 year old drunk virgin shut-in could there be an excuse as to how it managed to make it into production

they kind of do, if you look at the brief scene of the knights of Ren/Seven Samurai/Inquisition, the rain hits his saber.

EDIT: actually, it must be my imagination...

got to find a gif, I know that they're using lightkey prop for the saber and if the shower is real it should bounce

Watched New Hope last night since I've been so hyped about Star Wars lately.

I had completely forgotten how ridiculous the tacked on CGI was, haha.

Did they ever release a Blu-Ray version without any of the later bullshit that Lucas added?

Oh man, you have me scared now. I have tickets for the Dec 17th marathon and I fear they'll likely show the special editions :(

Also (as posted in the Rebels thread) I hope Finn's last name is revealed to be
Sloane... It would be awesome for him to be the grandson of Imperial Admiral Rae Sloane from Aftermath / New Dawn. Would explain why he's with the First Order and decides to go awol due to the pressure of living up to the family name.

yep, the writing was just inexcusably bad...

I honestly would not mind special editions of the prequels.

they should just remake them completely differently

Hey there, Star Wars fan. Do you love Attack of the Clones? Are you excited for 4K Blu-Ray?

If yes to both: Tough shit.

I really wish they had the foresight to realize that 2K would be old news within a decade. It's sure going to be weird being stuck in 1080p with Clones and Sith while everything else gets to be at a higher resolution. Though, being at a higher resolution won't help much with Clones (I actually really liked Sith).

Honestly, even if they changed the CGI to look less shitty, that still doesn't particularly fix everything else wrong with the prequels, such as the writing, acting, etc. Those films are just rotten to the core, I'm afraid.

I believe Clones was shot at 2K, don't know about Sith

They should just leave the prequels alone and do some new movies

Yeah, I've been over the prequels for years. Star Wars sucked donkey ass for a while and the world kept right on turning. Let more new people take a crack at the universe. Just skip the ewoks and the immaculate conception mitochondria stuff

They're both 1080p, not 2K.

I guess, wherever I read they said it was 2K, they got 1080p and 2K mixed up, just like how 4K is not exactly 3840 × 2160. Real 4K is 4096 × 2304, but TV's with 2160p resolutions are advertised as 4K TVs. True native 2K is 2048 × 1080.

Of course they will be the special editions. This isn't even a question. Do not forget we got clarification from the Lucasfilm Story Group earlier this year that the current special editions are the canon versions the OT, the theatrical editions are non-canon.

They're both native 1080p, not 2K.

1080p is 2k, but 2k is rarely ever used as a term. The 2k refers to the horizontal resolution of 1920, not the vertical resolution of 1080. Fun fact, 16x9 4k isn't actually 4k either, it's 3840x2160. Cinema 4k is actually 4k at 4096x2160.

A lot of big movies were shot in 1080p, even years later. Even Avatar was shot in 1080p.

Yes, the prequels had a lot of practical miniatures, more so than the originals. That means nothing when the actors still have to act against almost nothing but green screen and be composited in, which gave those movies that very fake look. The Force Awakens isn't out yet, but just from the trailers you can see the actors have much more to work with.

I saw Attack of the Clones for the first time with my late best friend and we left thinking it was awesome but in hindsight the weed we smoked beforehand probably had a major effect on that. Well, aside from the Anakin/Padme romantic getaway, no level of alter perception stopped that from being comedicly awful.

Disguise? He was in hiding on a planet with no one else around, he didn't need a disguise.

Plus that would be the worst disguise since Clark Kent's glasses.

I know I'm just quoting Plinkett here, but the part where Jango is firing like a million lasers at Obi-Wan's ship bothers me because he manages to hit basically every molecule around his ship but not the ship itself. It takes a lot of the tension away.
He does hit Obi-Wan's ship though. :P

A mere bounty hunter vs force sensitive flying skills

I like Boba's face when he says "We got him?!" Like... yeah! Shooting like a thousand laser bolts at a dude and you hit him acouple times?! WOAH SHIT!

look up "harmy despecialized edition"

they are the best you are going to get until disney rereleases the unaltered versions. he basically takes stuff from like 4 different sources and gives you the best high quality unaltered versions of star wars trilogy. i mean its more than that, but basiclally he spent alot of time giving us, what we as fans, wanted from Lucas. anyways, new hope and empire are the best you're going to get (and its impressive as hell). rotj is good but he didnt finish work on it because after his first pass, the announcement of the unaltered versions came out so he quit, which honestly makes sense, and the work he did on rotj is good enough. just not as perfect as new hope and empire

Yeah everything the originals showed regarding Vader's interactions with Luke implied that Vader's ultimate vision was to overthrow Palpatine and take control of the Empire himself.

Plus, that's just the Sith way right? Rule of Two means Master and Apprentice and it's just the way of the Sith for the apprentice to scheme up ways to betray the master.

It would be more surprising if the sequel trilogy retconned Vader into wanting to forever be Sheev's cyborg attackdog.

Yeah I remember now.

I guess Kylo then is looking for an apprentice, and some of the imagery so far makes it look like Ray would be the one who might risk falling to the dark side, while Finn would never come close to it.
