Very unlikely this would had happened during the previous 7 or so generations, but hey, now you can sell $20 real dollars virtual pieces of clothing and get praised for it instead of vilified, aka, horse armor.

I have absolutely no issues with their outfits, but this reads like the kind of response he made on the fly as an excuse without really putting much thought into it.
If he wants it to be a cultural or bonding thing then that's fine, but a "battle outfit", really? A fashion battle on the catwalk maybe.

In all seriousness not everyone is being a "hater". Personally I just think the outfits look boring and generic. Theres nothing appealing about the designs to me that make me care about these characters so far. The explanation really is uneeded at this point. They're going to do whatever they want anyways. Its also a silly explanation. Leather pants and a leather jacket/shirt is battle dress now? Hope you don't fight somewhere hot.
 
I don't mind the cast's designs(like facial and hair design) though they would be a lot more unique with the two female characters shown as part of the crew but the thing that I dislike is their outfits. Like, the all black thing already makes them less diverse(really? They couldn't do black with other colors to seperate their design?) and then the outfits don't look great either. Noctis's original design was far more interesting and the others just look okay, with only two looking better than their original design.
 
Remember when Final Fantasy was cool medieval steam punk stuff? You know, imaginative cohesive worlds with a sort of Métal Hurlant feel? I was never a huge fan of old turn based RPGs, but I would secretly get jealous of their cool designs and world building, wishing more of it could filter into my preferred genres. I even stuck a few out just to enjoy their settings and characters. Can't say I'm envious of any Final Fantasy games in recent memory though, and this looks to shoot straight for the mundane. I guess they're good for homoerotic gifs in a joke thread at least?

It's hilarious that this is the Final Fantasy where they feel the need to explain the characters outfits. You know, when it's the most run of the mill under designed shit ever. Wow, they look like some guys in clothes and things. Tell me more!

It always baffled me since it was kinda common in the 80s and 90s how not many jrpg have "henshin".

Having Noctis transform like this, basically, without it taking two hours though, it could be some smooth transition.

Legend of Dragoon had it, and it was great.

It's not a press release, he's just responding to a question on the forum they specifically designed to engage with fans. By the way, the forum was created as the result of a vote. Fans voted for this forum to be a thing. So they're using the thing they were asked to use for the the purpose they were asked to use it for.

Don't care? Go radio silent. It's easy.
 
They should have kept the Reaper theme globally and just replace it with robots or something in the German version or whatever version it is that poses a problem.
