Tabata explains the reason behind FFXV main cast's outfit.

The clothing worn by the four main characters is the official battle gear of the Kingdom of Lucis.
Noctis is a member of the royal family and the other three characters are parts of various Lucian national organisations and they are each wearing the specific battle dress relevant to their individual stations.
In the Kingdom of Lucis where our heroes reside, the colour black has historically been treated as a special colour. Because of this, the attire of the royal family and those in occupations closely tied to them are unified by having black as a base colouring. This part of the lore is the reason why the outfits of all four main characters are black. For the finished game we also intend on having their clothing having effects in battle and not just being a part of the world and its background. So watch out for that too!

Reasons were the same as to that given by Tetsuya Nomura. Do you rike it.

Also Gladio's pecs are his battle gear. Deal with it.

Tabata could have just said "because five hot guys wearing designer clothing is hot, and there's no reason royalty should dress cheap." :|

I totally would have accepted that much easier than "Gladiolus's open jacket showing his chest and abs is battle armor"

Unbuttoned shirt explained away as battle dress is like fucking hilarious. Maybe this reasoning isn't lame after all!

As you can see, the open shirt design provides excellent cooling during battle to avoid heat exhaustion. Notice also the protective nature of that finger-less glove to keep Noctis's 1 hand unscathed during battle.

the good thing about this post is that theres a chance that we may get an actual armor based costume later on,since outfits affect the gameplay

When you need to fight for your Kingdom at 4 but gotta drop a concert at 6

I don't care about the all black. My problem is the Roen collaboration (which is what I think is forcing them to keep the outfits) where the outfits has to have all these stupid skulls and hot topic look to them.

The old look could of easily be fit into the lore. You can actually keep Prompto as is since he isn't even part of the royal family.

I blame this aspect on Nomura entirely.

All that said, the outfits are unique at least. I haven't seen any other game where I run around in a jpop outfit so it'll be refreshing at least.

And this is why trying to bring the practicality discussion into fantasy is a bad move on SE's end. Let fantasy be fantastical. A fantasy based on reality, sure. But not a fantasy dictated by reality.

Maybe whatever thread he posted that in wanted a clear-cut reason. In his shoes, I would've ignored such a question.

Sarcasm? Those designs in the image are Nomura's original designs before the Roen x Square collab happened, so how is it his fault?

Still the hottest one there :) well not in that pic in particular but still!!

Anyway really have some hope for this. Not sure yet if it's positive that they have it down to this micro leveling thing. Anyway please be good :)

the colour black allows their skin to breath

hope the game gets different versions of their black uniforms, at least... level 1 version, level 99 version, winter weather version, beach volleyball version, whatever. i'm ok with the design style if we got some variety and progress out of that general 'style'

Isn't the beach version just Gladio shirtless? We all know it'll make a fortune if true. (If girls I talk to are anything to go by)

So why is this even a thing? Why there is an article justifying their clothing?

Did you miss the thread where we discussed a boulder in FFXV? Clothing is the kind of minutia that actually seems sane when discussing this game.

Someone at Square Enix seriously needs to take the pen away from Nomura. The man shouldn't be allowed to continue writing stories or designing characters anymore.

He leaves the shirt open because bro breathes through his chest. I mean, that's where the lungs are located, right? It's science; a fantasy based on reality.

Battle gear is designed by fashion companies in FF XV's world. Just like how Abercrombie designs our military outfits.

Why does this even have to have a reason?

I never heard a reason behind the clothing of Tifa, Tidus, Rikku in FFX2, Sephiroth or any other FF hero or villain (although sometimes I wish I had a reason behind the appearances of Kefka or Seymour).

Wait, is that model actually usable ingame?

All law enforcement is required to wear whatever Prompto has on. You can't adequately perform hostage negotiation without leopard-print tights and a half-kilt.

I was just looking at half kilts on Roen's site and they managed to blend in skulls in to some of the patterns of the plaid. I gotta give them props for managing that.

Seymour's is his clan's ceremonial garb and Tidus's is his blitzball team's uniform.

i am fucking FLOORED. what is going on??? is se giving me something good to look at for the sake of it or is there an actual serious context to this image lol

Shirtless basketball minigame in FF XV confirmed!
Featuring Cindy as a secret unlock!

I guess it's fine though it's kinda weird to call it battle gear instead of just their casual clothes that they don't bother changing to fight.

That shit actually better be in. They went into the effort of modeling a basketball and giving Gladio a unique animation so I must assume we're getting a basketball mini game.

" hey uh... nomura world renown character designer and head of some of the most successful things that we have ever created like kingdom hearts. We need to take your drawing tools away, because some guy on neo gaf didn't like your art. Even though most people do, and thats why everyone keeps hiring you because we do. So the idea that you need your pen taken away is... completely self serving and fucking stupid But no though he said so , so stop"

Or Hugo Boss, in some cases.

Seymour's is his clan's ceremonial garb and Tidus's is his blitzball team's uniform.

Similarly, Kefka's mental state also explains his fashion choices well enough - a man deluded and arrogant enough to build a mockery of the Pieta with his face on it wouldn't be above dressing in some eccentric ways to attract attention.
